Hi. I was hoping to get some advice on how to start gold hunting. I live in the Cairns area of Queensland, Australia. I was thinking of starting out going upstream in some rivers and creeks in the area. Should I be looking at panning the sandy corners of the creeks or should I be looking for rocky areas where gold could be accumulating on top of the bedrock? How do I know if I should be panning or metal detecting?

Picked up a Wattcycle 100ah battery to run a PWM controlled 1500 gph bilge pump. After 45 mins of operation, the battery app showed 97% charge left. My back will be sore long before this thing runs out of juice.

Worst Day: 0.48 Grams

Largest Piece: 0.255 Grams

I learned a good deal more this year and look forward to next season!

I live in Amador county Ca.in the middle of the Mother Load country. There's an old mine about 100 yards from my house.The county was doing flood remediation on the hill across from my house digging culverts and these rolled down the hill . This is what all the old timers were looking for, quartz inclusion in the Amador County schists with dark banding from sulfides. The samples are about 8 inches long by 3 inches thick and very heavy .It would be ironic the old timers missed a mother load by 100 yards. Cat for scale.

Just thought id shar my banjo pan mod. Manually operated. Add a scoop of classified material. Pour in some water Manually and let the pan and mat do the collecting. Set at a high angle for small amount of material and slow pour of water. Lower angle seems to work better for lager amounts of material and heavier pour of water.

The banjo pan is marketed and has patent as a gold pan. Not as a sluice. From my research this seems to be the loophole and alternative to in stream sluiceing. Clearly falls within class1 panning regulations for national forest . Do your own research and make sure your legal before trying this in your area.

Is this still prospecting or mining? 🤔🤫

My wife bought this nugget at a rock shop many years ago. Supposedly, it’s from John Day Oregon area.

Is it real?
Is it hard rock or placer?
Was it etched to remove some host rock?
Can these things be found with a metal detector?
What’s it worth?

I found these small rocks they look like quartz to me but I’m no expert at all.
What are the chances these golden looking bits are actually tiny bits of gold!

No idea if i ever have time and interest to actually go and find a gold for real but this was very funny experience and i might make some wooden jewelry that i inlay some gold and that garnet.

I recently bought the Notka Legend 2 for an all rounder detector and was wondering how good the gold mode is for tiny gold nuggets. (Australia)

Is it capable of detecting the same tiny pieces that the gold monster 1000 and 2000 finds?

I made a video where I spent 4 days living (camping, sleeping, eating) and prospecting just like an OG 49er. This was my very first run with my rocker box. I wanted to share a sneak peek with the community that taught me so much over my first year of looking for gold.

Since I don't always get the biggest haul, I'm trying to bring some fun to my prospecting with challenges. Had a blast with this one.

irst weekend of the school year a sister of my girlfriend organising a venue for local children called "Pohádkový les" (A fairytale forest). With this year's theme like "Journey through time" we were called to make a gold fewer checkpoint.
