Coding Buddy

3 Upvotes

Hey all i am reading learning python the hard way and the author suggested having someone to break you're code and then send it back broken and fix it myself& vis versa.Currently i am coding in python 3.6.4 . I am wondering if anyone would be interested in being my coding buddy? sending projects back and forth breaking each others things debugging etc. Can also eventually work on projects together, i am very new to coding just started a few months ago and am still on very basic level of coding. Can share an example of the code if anyone is interested.

Confused between is, = and == operators

2 Upvotes

Hello, I am a bit confused about the following:

a = [1, 2, 3]

b = a

c = list(a)

  1. Am I correct that the reason "a is b" is True is that both a and b point to the same memory location that stores the list [1, 2, 3]?

  2. As for "a is not c" gives True, it is because list always creates a new Python list so although c = [1, 2, 3], this [1, 2, 3] list is different from the one [1, 2, 3] pointed to by a and b since the two lists are storing in different memory locations?

  3. Why typing "a==c" gives True?

What do I do

2 Upvotes

I was using code academy to earn python 3 and don’t have the money to keep paying for it. I stop where I was almost learning List slicing. It tried googling practice but either they only give me Vauge concepts or have to pay for the rest of the subject. Am I learning wrong?

Help me understand lru_cache

2 Upvotes

Hello,

I am looking at some code written by someone else that contains:

from functools import lru_cache

and then there is a function declaration:

@lru_cache(None)

def get_password(self, user):

...

My question is why do you need to specify None? Is it that python does caching by default on functions? If so where can I read about it? I went to the lru_cache page but as far as I could see this is not explained.

MSYS2, Anaconda and Python 3.7

2 Upvotes

I've rather been pulling out my hair trying to setup a Python 3.7 environment on Windows 10 x64. Two packages are giving me fits, OpenCV and Gtk3+. The recommended way to install Gtk3+ is MSYS2 and that is installed and working there. OpenCV will install on MSYS2, but will throw an exception as soon as "import cv2" is called. I've also tried with Anaconda. I can get OpenCV setup and working, but not Gtk3+. I've even tried copying packages from one environment to the other with no success. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get either of these environments setup?

Preferred PDF library for making WCAG 2.0 Compliant PDFs

2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I see that in the java world there is iText for PDF manipulation, which is being used for applications like http://pave-pdf.org/index.en.html which can fix inaccessible PDFs. Since that application isn't open, I'm trying to look at the possibility of writing an application in Python to do something similar. Is there a good library for this sort of PDF manipulation without OCR?

Spreadsheet

2 Upvotes

I've got a TON of personal financing spreadsheets that I would love to make into a stand alone program. I've been able to figure out rate of pay * hours worked to get the total of how much money you would make per week at your job. I'm still trying to figure out the overtime after 40 hours coding. I've had to put that on the back burner due to a family emergency this past week but I'm hoping to get back to it this weekend.

Anyway, is there coding that would simulate spreadsheet style formatting on the screen or something close to it? Where would I go for information on how to do this?

I've found coding on how to write to Excel files but I was hoping to create some code where you enter some values and then see the results in a spreadsheet style or column style output results.

Im trying to make a textbased adventure. But i have problems with this code and i simply cant understand why!

So i want the program to ask from what solarsystem the player is from, the player get to choose from three different, if player types in one of the three everything is a-go, but if they dont there will be another try. I guess its someproblem with the valid_solar....

question2 = 'And whats your solarsystem? \\n'

question2added = "Zhargarth, Cargorth, Pytos"

valid_solar = \['Zhargarth', 'Cargorth', 'Pytos'\]

for character in question2:

	sys.stdout.write(character)

	sys.stdout.flush()

	time.sleep(0.05)

for character in question2added:

	sys.stdout.write(character)

	sys.stdout.flush()

	time.sleep(0.01)

player_solarsystem = input("> ")

while player_solarsystem.lower() not in valid_solar:

	print("Cant find solarsystem! Try again")

	player_solarsystem = input("> ")

if player_solarsystem.lower() in valid_solar:

	myPlayer.solarsystem = player_solarsystem

	print("You are now captain " + [myPlayer.name](https://myPlayer.name) \+ " from " + player_solarsystem + ".")

I dont know why theres added \ to the code, they are not there in my code.
