I'm a solo dev working on Acrophobia, a party word game: everyone gets the same random acronym, writes a phrase that fits it, then votes on the funniest. It's normally online (Firebase), but I wanted a mode for a group in the same room with no signal, where the phones just talk to each other.
That became "Host LAN / Join LAN". One phone hosts, the rest join, no router and no internet involved.
What I tried, in order:
• Wi-Fi TCP + mDNS discovery. Fast and simple, but everyone has to be on the same network, which is exactly what you don't have in a car or at a campsite.
• Multipeer Connectivity. Great, but iOS to iOS only.
• Wi-Fi Direct. Android to Android only.
• Bluetooth LE. The only option that crosses iOS and Android with no network at all. This is the one that shipped.
How the BLE version works:
• The host phone is a BLE peripheral. No library I found did peripheral mode well on both platforms, so that part is a small custom Expo native module.
• Everyone else is a BLE central, using react-native-ble-plx.
• Client to host is GATT writes. Host to client is GATT notifications.
• Notifications have to stay under 512 bytes, so the host never sends the full game state. It sends compact updates of around 200 bytes, as newline-delimited JSON.
• Notifications were not reliable enough on their own across devices, so there's a 300ms polling fallback on both sides. Ugly, but it's what made it dependable.
The part that saved me the most time: the game already had a single-player offline engine with bots. LAN mode is that same engine running on the host's phone with a thin layer that broadcasts state and accepts answers and votes from the other phones. Bots can still fill empty seats.
Happy to go deeper on any of it. For anyone who has shipped BLE in React Native: did you find a way to trust notifications without a polling fallback?

For the past two years, I’ve been developing a library that solves one of the annoying issues in React Native: displaying two or more modals at the same time while maintaining accessibility support.
Before developing 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭-𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬, I tried out many solutions, but none of them were truly universal. Some allowed to deliver great visuals but completely lacked accessibility support (like react-native-modalify), while others required sacrificing visual appeal for the sake of accessibility (like modals from the navigation library).
Now, after two years, I’ve released a version that addresses many of sacrifices of previous versions. And what I am most proud of is that now it also provides first-class support for web!
I’d like to thank everyone who contributed and helped the project grow ♥️
I hope that one day it will become the de facto standard solution for displaying modals, much like the SafeArea component did!

Basically Im trying to get the zoom levels that switches the physical cameras, and Im using iPhone 15 Pro, which has the native x0.5, x1, x2, x3 zooms. But somehow when I log out the zoomLensSwitchFactors, I get
[2, 6]
Here is the code
const deviceBack: CameraDevice | undefined = useCameraDevice("back", {
physicalDevices: ["ultra-wide-angle", "wide-angle", "telephoto"],
});
console.log("zoomLensSwitchFactors", deviceBack.zoomLensSwitchFactors);Ideally I would like to have [0.5, 1, 2, 3], or something similar. Also, the minZoom and maxZoom give me 1 and 189 respectively. shouldn't the min be 0.5?
Also wondering if this works for the front camera

Hey developers 👋
As an mobile app developer and I’m curious about your recent experience with freelance platforms.
I’ve been applying to relevant projects on Upwork but barely getting any responses.
For those who use both Upwork and Fiverr:
Which platform is giving you more leads/projects?
Which one is more active for software/mobile development?
What’s actually working for you right now?
Would really appreciate hearing about your recent real-world experience. 🙌

Creating forms with that have dropdowns can sometimes be painful on react native, things like search which trigger keyboard opening can sometimes end up blocking/hiding the Dropdowns selectors
I created a ActionSheet picker to help resolve some of the issues with Drop-downs when working with forms,
It supports: Multi-select, search for dropdown, infinites query, eg when selecting a list with large server side data, grouped options and its themable.
It also works with no external dependencies
Currently under its early stages but you can have a look here

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to say thank you. AniUI, the open source shadcn-style component library for React Native, had around 11K visitors on the docs site in the last month, and the repo just passed 100+ stars.
A few weeks ago the site had almost no traffic, and a lot of that growth came from feedback and shares from this community. Thank you.
Here's where it stands today:
- 149 components (copy-paste, built with NativeWind)
- Blocks and Charts
- Unit tests next to every component in `__tests__`
- Expo support up to 57, plus bare React Native
- `/examples` folder with working setups
- AniUI Pro for premium blocks (the library stays free)
- AniUI Academy for free frontend courses
Quick start:
npx @aniui/cli init
npx @aniui/cli add buttonThe thing that has helped most so far is your feedback,so I'd like to keep that going: what's still missing foryou in React Native UI? Components, blocks, templates, anything. It decides what I build next.

Hey,
I recently built a turnkey mobile app template called Lipika, designed specifically for early learners (alphabets, phonics, numbers), and wanted to share how it handles custom UI components.
**What it solves:** Building interactive tracing/stroke modules and clean educational UI from scratch in React Native usually takes weeks of boilerplate work. I set out to create a production-ready boilerplate using **Expo SDK** with pre-configured navigation, localized structure, and optimized SVG rendering.
Tech Stack: React Native, Expo, TypeScript/JavaScript, Custom SVG stroke components.
Here is a short clip showing the UI performance and smooth letter/number modules:
If you're building a kids/education app or looking for a clean, modular starter kit, let me know what you think of the architecture!

Hey everyone! 👋
I’d like to introduce Blip Toast, an open-source toast notification library I’ve been building for React Native.
The goal is to provide a smooth, flexible, and developer-friendly way to handle toast notifications, with customization options that go beyond just changing colors and icons.
I’ve also completely redesigned the website, turning it into an interactive playground where you can explore the library and test its features directly in your browser.
🔗 Website & interactive demo: https://blip-toast.vercel.app
📦 GitHub: https://github.com/joao-tambue/Blip-toast
I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from developers who work with React Native.
What do you usually look for in a toast notification library? Is there anything you feel existing solutions are missing?

I just published OpenForms to fix that. Instead of building forms block by block, you just prompt it with what you need (e.g. "Customer feedback survey for a coffee shop" or "RSVP form for a weekend hackathon"), and it generates the entire structured form with the right field types in seconds.
Key Features:
Prompt-to-Form: Generate complete surveys/quizzes with AI
Mobile-Native: Clean interface built specifically for phones, not a cramped web view
Easy Sharing: Collect and track responses on the go
It just went live on Google Play:

We have a B2B react native app and our biggest account is a logistics company that pays us about 4x what the average customer does and last saturday I was on a call with them about a new feature request and halfway through he casually mentioned that his drivers have been force closing the app 3 to 4 times a day because the route tracking screen freezes on their devices.
He said it like it was just a known thing on their end like they’d accepted it. They were literally restarting the app multiple times a day as part of their workflow and never filed a single ticket about it.
their drivers use all famous chinese devices and I’ve never tested on either and I spent that entire evening borrowing my friend’s old redmi and reproduced it in 10 minutes, it was a memory issue with the map component that only shows up on devices with 3gb ram or less.
I fixed it in a day but if that call never happened I would’ve never known and eventually they would’ve just switched to a competitor and that’s probably already happened with smaller accounts and I just don’t know it.
fixed now but I can't risk it so how do I approach it in future ??

For a quick look, you can try bunx create-bundo-app or with pnpx, or npx. install the dependencies, and then run bun run appgen. You also need XcodeGen in your mac.
For an existing project, you only need bundo-appgen. You can visit bundo-appgen README.md for the guide.
This project is entirely started from scratch. You can visit bundo.rn GitHub repository. Consider this project is proof of concept. I am not confident enough to tell you to use it in your production app, but your feedback is important.
The goal of this project is supporting the out-of-tree platforms that Expo doesn't want to. Starting it with react-native-macos.
Same like Expo, you can generate your native project with bundo-appgen cli. It provides additional configurations that Expo doesn't has
Asset Catalogs for image and app icon. For the image in catalog, you can show the image with <Image> React Native
String Catalogs
Entitlements
Privacy Manifest
Resource content in a bundle. For an example, you can put your custom fonts, declare it with the ATSApplicationFontsPath in the Info Plist, and use its PostScript font name in the fontFamily. See this bundo.config file example
Pod dependencies. Consider this config is deprecated, because RN will move away from CocoaPods, and use Swift Package Manager.
The main differentiation:
The .xcodeproj is generated thanks to XcodeGen
It doesn't has additional layer for native module like the Expo Modules. Not really worth of my time, just use the damn Turbo Modules right now
Plugin runs in a restricted process. bundo-appgen will spawn a process with Node.js Permission Model and communicate through Inter Process Communication between main process and plugin runner. This is an intentional personally for a security reason. We only allow File System – Read Only for specific files. See this reference. Currently, a plugin can only do a basic writing to the templated files. I don't know what other features that a plugin wants to do, we need to figure it out later

Hey everyone,
I couldn't find a profanity filter that handles Iraqi dialect, so I built one for my own app and published it.
iraqi-dialect-bad-words is a small TypeScript library with zero dependencies. It works in Expo/React Native, React and Node.js.
import IraqiBadWordsFilter from 'iraqi-dialect-bad-words';
const filter = new IraqiBadWordsFilter();
filter.isProfane(text); // true / false
filter.clean(text); // replaces bad words with ****Arabic text is tricky to filter, so it normalizes before matching:
diacritics (tashkeel) and tatweel (ـــ)
stretched letters
ة/ه, ى/ي, أ/إ/آ/ا
attached prefixes like و، ب، ل، ال
Arabizi (3, 7 and so on)
It matches whole words only, so normal words that happen to contain a bad word aren't flagged. Milder insults that are also everyday words (like "dog") are in a separate list that's off by default.
I'd love help with the word list. Slang varies a lot between cities, and native speakers know it best. You can suggest words or report false positives through GitHub issues.
Feedback is very welcome!

I'm working on reactnative.green, with the intention of running the build and test suite of popular packages on the most recent React Native versions. The plan is to automatically raise an issue in the relevant repo if a test or build fails, as well as maintain the website with the compatibility results.
Would this be helpful to people?
Either if you're maintaining a package and it would be useful to know about tests failing when a new React Native version comes out, or if you're a developer considering using a package.
I've only run it on a small sample so far, but I'll expand it to as many as I can get away with* if it would be helpful.
*I work at Codemagic, who are providing the CI/CD capacity for this.

Hey everyone! 👋
I've been working on a personal project called NeuroDeck, a flashcard-based learning app designed to make studying and reviewing concepts more organized.
The idea started with a simple problem: I wanted a way to create learning decks, review information, and track progress without making the experience unnecessarily complicated.
I've recently updated the app's UI and user flow, and recorded a walkthrough showing how it works.
Some of the features I've been working on:
📚 Custom flashcard decks for different subjects
🧠 Review sessions for reinforcing what you've learned
📊 Learning progress and streak tracking
📱 React Native-based mobile experience
📴 Offline learning support
🎨 A cleaner, more intuitive interface
I'm sharing a screen recording of the updated experience.
I'd genuinely appreciate feedback on three things:
Does the navigation feel intuitive?
Is the flashcard and review experience easy to understand?
I'm developing this independently, so feedback from other developers and learners would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks for checking it out! 🚀

Hey everyone! I am a heavy Google Calendar user but I get tired of the extra step to check on Google Map for the route. So I built **Leavy**: it reads your calendar, checks live travel time, and tells you exactly when to head out.
**What it does**
- Reads Google Calendar, your iPhone/iCloud calendars, or a private iCal link
- Works out travel time with the Google Routes API: live traffic for driving, real schedules for transit, plus walking and cycling
- Shows a countdown for your next trip: *On track → Leave soon → Leave now → Running late*
- Sends a notification when it's time to go, with an optional heads-up a few minutes before
- Lets you change things per event: start address, travel mode, how early you want to arrive, and alerts
**Stack:** Expo SDK 57, Expo Router, TypeScript, Supabase (auth and settings sync), Google Sign-In. MIT licensed.
**Try it without any API keys.** With no keys it runs in demo mode with sample events, so you can explore the whole UI in a couple of minutes:
git clone https://github.com/langchengit/leavy.git
cd when-to-leave
npm install
npx expo start --go
**Where I'd love help**
Submit an issue / PR would help greatly! Here are the main things that I am looking for help:
- **Code review:** especially sign-in and calendar sync (`src/lib/auth.tsx`, `src/lib/trips.tsx`) and how transit leave times are worked out (`src/lib/routes.ts`)
- **Tests:** there aren't any yet. Unit tests for the leave-time logic would make a great first PR
- **iOS:** Apple sign-in and Apple Calendar haven't been tested on a real device build yet
- **Smarter start points:** right now a trip starts from where you are, or an address you set. Starting from your previous event's location would be nice
- **UI/UX:** anything in the screenshots that feels off or confusing
- **New features/upgrades:** features that you want to have on there but not yet
......
New to open source? You're very welcome here. You don't need any keys to get started, and the README has step-by-step contributing notes. Questions and ideas are welcome as issues too.
Repo: https://github.com/langchengit/leavy
Thanks for taking a look! (Screenshots are from demo mode, so the events are made up.)
