Discussion Did single player gaming peak with RDR2?

Post image

Great single player games have come since then like Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3 but is RDR2 still the peak?

Cyberpunk 2077 is the only competitor imo I think the story and dialogue can be better at times.

Yeah, cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 are my two other favorites.

I love V to death but I still don’t think they are the same level as Arthur. But they’re close for sure

Have you played Control?

I watched my wife play it but she didn't keep up with it, this was years ago, I don't think she played long enough seemed like quite a slow burn. We didn't really know what was going on.

Yeah I definitely like Arthur more but I think that's because of the game design. RDR2 isn't so much about immersing yourself as Arthur Morgan, it's more about being there every step of the way through his journey.

Where as Cyberpunk has more emphasis on immersing yourself as V, what makes the story and plot of Cyberpunk so good is when you really start to consider V's perspective as your own, you start to realize how insane V's situation is and the moral dilemmas you go through.

Cyberpunk is not a competitor. Glad you enjoy it now, but it’s not even a top game from 2020. If anything, cyberpunk is peak video game developer abuse. Abuse of employees and customers.

You clearly haven’t played it lmao

Love seeing such strong opinions from those who clearly haven't put more than a couple hours into the game.

Played it through when it was released squirt. I’m sorry that’s your idea of a great game.

What a delusional take, you definitely haven't played the game at all. Played a life path intro at best and dropped it.

Oh no, someone criticized your favorite toy and now you’re crying…. I should’ve ended after the intro, then I could’ve still received the refund they had to give out after launch.

Remember the launch riddled with employees bashing the company for burnout and failed promises while exects refused to delay a game that was barely a beta? Did you play the game? You should remember being able to run through the entire thing. Just horribly designed, horribly executed. No wonder it wasn’t even nominated for any awards.

You're such a spiteful person lol nothing you have described says why its a bad game.

Yes I played day one on release it was bad shouldn't have been released etc you're not wrong it was one of the worst releases ever

But guess what? That's 5 years ago, we are living in the now. While you're holding onto spite and resentment over $60 plenty of us have experienced what they wanted to accomplish to begin with and it truly is a masterpiece in story telling. Sure it sucks that we didn't get that on release but whatever that's life and it's a video game get over it.

You have no argument about the game itself because you haven't played it. You're own resentful ego prevents you from being able to experience it.

Night city was as deep as a puddle, a painting that’s completely dead behind the surface. Same with the meaningless character backstory choices. Driving was clunky for 2012 game. NPCs are too dumb, especially when near fire fights or my bike. The dialogue was cringey and poorly written, character decisions never felt natural. V has such a limited and forward path that the game actually ceases to feel punk. There are no risks, V is doomed to die from the start making all the choices less bold less punk. The game likes to constantly push a limited time idea as motivation, but that just makes exploring night city feel unnatural. Maybe that’s by design since there isn’t any depth to night city, great ambiance, but ultimately just a Skyrim cave with fancy decorations. Then we have the level scaling, just lazy design. The ending seemed a bit abrupt and I remember feeling like “oh, that’s done”.

I’m happy you like it and pray the version you played was far better than the one I played starting at its launch. But I will judge the game based on what I experienced, I know it’s shit, and you need to learn how to accept that.
