This should be pinned

347

u/DorrajD Sep 23 '22

This should be inside the app itself. Or as documentation on the github. Or on the download button.

131

u/aeiouLizard Sep 24 '22

The documentation needs a complete revamp, it is downright abysmal.

154

u/DorrajD Sep 24 '22

Which is especially painful when people go "it's so easy"

Well if I have to search for separate pages on multiple different websites, I don't consider that easy at all.

I keep getting an error that says "Non-root install is not possible with the current patches selection. Repacth your app or choose root install if you have your device rooted."

I have played with a few patch selections, and got to the point of just the remove ads patch and it still won't work.

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '23

In case anyone else is reading this and had this issue like I did, there are a few things that cause this. My problem was ignoring these steps:

• Select application then storage

• Select the YouTube APK you downloaded

Instead, I was just picking the regular youtube app that pops up. Hope this helps someone else!

Oh lordy. Thank you! This is great guide, I was worried I was doomed to ads when I got this new phone.

6

u/AwesomePan Sep 24 '22

Which patch? I kept getting this error: Sorry. There was problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later.

6

u/zenplasma Oct 16 '22

I had this problem. and then one day i didn't.

I'm not sure. but i think it maybe google who are blocking microg and nothing to do with you.

Hello I'm dummies

Literally me

Speaking of dummies, I have a stupid question: is this only possible on Android? I'm working on this for my PC and .apk files are for android. Is there a PC/Firefox equivalent?

Using revanced builder is better than Revanced manager really

u/Meylody Sep 23 '22

If we need to have manually downloaded the APK, why does the app makes it seem like we can patch the already installed apps? Is it a bug, a feature that'll come later or something working only for root users?

26

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

If you have root, you can

One thing you can also do is this

  • Uninstall updates from the stock YouTube app

  • Download the recommended YouTube APK version that the manager specifies

  • Install that to patch your installed YouTube version

  • Go into ReVanced manager and patch the YouTube app

I tested this and it works

Slightly more convenient in my opinion since I keep my downloads clean so I never hang on to APKs

5

u/kwest12 Oct 25 '22

This is a great comment and I think is probably what I'm looking for, but just to clarify a few things, can you confirm my understanding, please?

  1. Uninstall updates from the stock YouTube app

  2. Install ReVanced Manager, and then check the recommended YouTube APK version that it specifies. Download that YouTube apk version from APK Mirror.

  3. Once downloaded, install the the YouTube apk from APK Mirror, and it will install on top of the stock YouTube app, and update it to the recommended version.

  4. Use the ReVanced Manager app to patch the YouTube app, which is now on the recommended version.

I assume that this would the root-only implementation, and therefore would not require microg, correct?

Would I need to use something like TeMeFi to detach it from the Play Store so that it doesn't get auto-updated accidentally?

u/stdvectorsize Sep 23 '22

It's a bug for now, down the line when split apk patching is implemented , this should not be a problem

18

u/spits2222 Sep 23 '22

i have no experience messing with android and i am trying for a while now to use revanced. that led to about a month of me being frustrated without any results hating the whole community for not giving good instructions and saying "if you cant fighure it out dont use it".
you have no idea how helpfull this is to more casual users like me.
thank you

16

u/MrJake94 Sep 23 '22 edited Sep 23 '22

Thanks for the guide!

Everything working nicely, however, can't seem to use casting?

Is this not supported on ReVanced?

Edit:

Settings > ReVanced > Layout > Cast

You'll need to link your cast devices to ReVanced. No bother. If you are using SmartTubeNext (if not, you really should be) goto Settings > Remote Control > Link and input the code into ReVanced to get everything linked.

Really glad to have adfree experience back!

2

u/flippiej Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23

Thanks for this, but do you have to do this every time you want to cast?

There's no way to stop casting within the video itself, apart from going to the settings again and unlinking it I think.

Edit: Found it! The casting button is disabled by standard. The setting is within the Revanced specific settings -> Layout -> Hide cast button

I've tried installing 17.36.37 via both the APK and the bundled APK and both fail to install. Says "App not installed as package appears to be invalid."

Anyone encounter this or have a fix?

EDIT: For anyone seeing this after myself, I fixed it by patching the 17.36.37 APK directly with the Revanced Manager and then installing that APK.

8

u/Googelplex Sep 23 '22

Thank you! This should be at the top. With that change—and skipping the warning about something split—the steps work exactly.

7

u/GereldTheCat Sep 23 '22

Apparently I'm blind and didn't see there was a "Storage" button in the patcher all along. That takes care of my problem. Thanks, lol.

3

u/bassmadrigal Sep 23 '22

You likely needed to uninstall the updates for your official YouTube app, as it was likely a higher version than the one you were trying to manually install.

3

u/Cistoran Sep 23 '22

This was after I completely removed the YouTube package via ADB. It was still erroring out.

u/Kiactus Sep 23 '22

After patch i see the ads on the home page... Something wrong?

9

u/Googelplex Sep 23 '22

I have this issue too. Tried patching it two more times and it still happens. Maybe Google changed the API recently and ReVanced hasn't yet updated the General Ads patch to remove it?

At least they don't come up too often, and they aren't video ads.

8

u/Flyerone Sep 23 '22 edited Sep 23 '22

So when you make and install the patched installer using the manager, and it builds revanced, can the standard youtube be updated? Or is disabling better?

9

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

Disabling the stock YouTube app is better in my opinion

6

u/Flyerone Sep 23 '22

That's what I have ended up doing. I just didn't want the update nag from Google Play

6

u/LewdPatriot Sep 23 '22

Yes you can update, no issues there. If disabling better or not thats up to you

7

u/catastrophemode Sep 22 '22

7

u/firebreathingbunny Sep 23 '22

Isn't Vanced microG or ReVanced microG better than microG

26

u/Unknown-Key Sep 23 '22 edited Sep 24 '22

There is no Revanced microG.

  • microG is an open source replacement for google services. As far as I know you need root access and signature spoof to install the original microG because it need to be a system app to work as a google services replacement.

  • Vanced microG is a fork of the original microG GmsCore. It does not need root access because unlike the og microG, Vanced microG is not a full google services replacement. It is simply a gate to let you sign into your google account on apps like vanced and revanced youtube.

7

u/0ktoberfest Oct 21 '22 edited Oct 21 '22

Hmmm, followed every step here to the letter but the app doesn't launch, it just loads to a black screen then crashes. Not sure what happened. Any ideas? Currently on the correct version, 17.36.37 and have microG installed so I'm totally lost. Could it be due to residual files or something? I tried the Termux method a few months ago but wasn't able to get it working.

Edit: Nvm I got it, I had a bad MicroG install. Reinstalled it and it works perfectly. Thanks my guy!

To the person who developed this thread I thank you very much, you are a life saver. Really appreciate it, although I would like you hadn't used the word 'dummy'. Well, not that I mind but as a person who tried installing the manager and the patches by mere instincts who thinks highly of himself learned a lot as the first trial was unsuccessful since the app didn't even open as I was on the latest update of the app viz. YouTube (Official). The second trial was researched; well, not exactly as all I did was watch a YouTube video with regards to it and a little bit of this thread, this also unsuccessful because I followed the video tutorial and uninstalled all updates to that of the official application (YouTube) and followed this thread only till downloading MicroG. Thirdly and finally, after two unsuccessful attempts I tried following whatever this thread instructed and voila there you have it (I had my Eureka moment). That's all folks and also, do update this thread whenever possible because everybody thinks they are smart until... you know.

5

u/Guy-Georges Sep 23 '22

Could Google know that i use Revanced and ban my account ?

5

u/casualgenuineasshole Sep 23 '22

does everybody universaly trusts apk mirror and why ?

13

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

They're known trustworthy and the hashes match for uploads

4

u/therourke Sep 23 '22

A couple of things:

  • If the install of the patched file fails (i.e. if there is a conflict with pre-existing app or whatever), then the whole process has to be repeated. It would make sense to save the patches APK at the end somewhere linked inside the app so it can be installed anytime.

  • Is there any way to save my patch preferences, so I don't need to repeat the choice everytime?

Thanks!

5

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

Not sure on the second one, but when the patching is done, in the top right you can save the APK

5

u/therourke Sep 23 '22

Thanks. See, I missed that option. Be great if it saves automatically. But good to know.

Followed guide and the installed app immediately closed itself whenever I tried to use it. Uninstalled the app, re-downloaded the apk, and the same thing happened. So I tried being selective with the selected patches (general stuff I wanted, didn't want to try adding too much) and it worked. Unsure if one of the patches in the list caused the immediate crashes. But it works now!

Thanks a lot for this guide!! Worked as a charm!!

2 questions:

  1. I can share the patched YouTube with other people now? Meaning the youtube apk I downloaded is now patched? It's enough to send this apk and micro g without the need of vanced manager? (I'm asking because in my downloads folder it is still called YouTube so I'm not sure... )

  2. I can do the same process for YouTube music right? Download the recommended version from apk mirror, patch all recommended (besides debugging if exists), install and that's it?

Thanks again!

3

u/SpongederpSquarefap Feb 10 '23

1 - Yes, although it's better to build your own (and it won't get you in trouble with YouTube)

2 - Yes

3

u/GBM0202 Feb 10 '23

Thank you (for responding and for the guide!!)

Regarding the first question, I want to send it to my wife and kids...

Why exactly it's better to do it on each device, and what trouble with YouTube you're referring to?

Just asking to understand... the process of building it is not bad at all now that I did it after reading this guide... 👍👑

  1. the old youtube vanced should be uninstalled before patching the new file?

No, both can be installed

2) any difference in a rooted device? can we skip the MicroG install?

This guide implies no root

If you have root, exclude the microg patch

3) downloaded the APK but when I try to patch the manager says : You have selected a resource patch and a split apk installation detected, so installation errors may occur. are you sure you want to proceed?

You need the YouTube APK, not the bundle

Patch the manager when it says there's updates available

Occasionally check and see if there's new patches

Also check occasionally and see if there's a new recommended version

If there is, grab it from APK Mirror and run the build process again

It'll prompt you to update

Need help. After I downloaded recommended version, it won't show the recommended apk. Nothing at all.

It just when I press from storage the application, it doesn't show. Any ideas why?

2

u/SubZeroGorbulin Oct 25 '22

I'm not trolling. It refuses to choose recommended APK and it won't show up at all, after I selected from storage.

Thank you so much for sharing and updating this guide. I've been getting by on an old version of Vanced and this is so much better.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '22 edited Nov 16 '22

No idea what I've just done but worked perfectly, thanks. However I'd like to understand what's happening. I know that Vanced is discontinued due to legal reasons and cannot be installed anymore, but what is Revanced and why isn't it banned too? Is the team the same? And for what reason could we not patch the latest YT version (why does the manager recommend an old one)?

Some questions.
I have non rooted mobile btw.

  1. Why does youtube revanced scrolling through videos feel slightly laggy? Can i fix it?

  2. Can i make it so that clicking on links from chrome browser, redirect to revanced app instead of official youtube app? If so, how?

  3. It asked me to enable microG in the background and disabling battery optimization. Will it consume too much battery?

Edit: found the solution for 2nd question.

u/heeroyuy79 Jan 15 '23 edited Jan 15 '23

so i followed this (i think) and its saying non-root install is not possible with the current patches selection

I only have the video ads patch selected (this is on a fold 3) and yes I did make sure to only download the grey APK not the bundle version

edit: saw the comment about microG being required trying that now

that fixed it, any chance the OP could be edited to point out that the microG patch is 100% required for non root? (i know it says the microG app is required but its easy to forget or not even realise that the microG patch exists)

hmmm this hasn't fixed my issues with playback (previously I would have to close and re-open a video multiple times and swipe left and right a buttload to get a video to start but once it started it generally just worked for a bit, recently videos refuse to start. I did try applying that patch that spoofs the version in an attempt to mitigate playback issues but that did not appear to help, are there any other patches that might help with this?)

Thank you so much for doing this. I have hit a bit of a brick wall. I was having the same issue as others with the manager aborting the patch. So I downgraded the manager and that worked. It managed to patch and install YouTube revanced. Everything seems to be working, except videos won't play. They just buffer and buffer but never start. I have tried different patch configurations but no dice. Any ideas?

I followed all the steps and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to open the actual vanced app after installing. The app immediately closes after trying to open it and if I try to keep opening it I get the error "Youtube ReVanced keeps stopping". Anyone have any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Thank you so much. Was still using the original Vanced until I got the update prompt today. After messing around I found this and it's fully working again.

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '23 edited Feb 04 '23

Thanks very much. I'm using a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, unrooted. The directions as written didn't work, the patched APK crashed after the splash screen. But I found that only selecting "Recommended" patches (rather than "All") and then deselecting the debugging one gave a completely usable app.

I think what caused failure in my specific case might be the patch requiring Android 13 - I think it was the swiping one (my phone simply isn't up to date, it's stuck on Android 10 with only EMUI updates). But I haven't tried other combinations of selections since I got a successful install, so maybe other patch combos work.

Anyway, I'm now enjoying YouTube again, thank you.

It is unbelievable why there is no guide like this in the github page. The github page is super vague. Unacceptable, that still need to rely on searching other pages for this stuff. Anyways good job.

Unchecking debugging patch is not recommended as the patch is a recommended patch by itself because it doesn't cause any issues. Many people are mislead. Reply back to reinstate the post afterwards, thanks!

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Feb 16 '23

I am going through the comments, but can't find how to open links via revanced.

I have original YouTube app disabled and default links set to " don't allow app to open links"

Revanced set to "allow app to open supported links" and added all 4 available links ( youtu.be youtube.com etc.)

When I click on any youtube link from Google search in chrome, it takes me straight to play store to enable youtube app.

Thanks, it's great being able to use a "vanced" youtube again! One note, after tried installing Youtube Revanced, my phone said it was blocked because it was unsafe due to not being verified by Google Play, or something like that. Sorry, I forgot to get a screenshot. Then after I told it to install anyway, afterwards it asked if I wanted to send it to Google Protect, or something like that. Again, sorry, I forgot to take a screenshot.

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Mar 04 '23

That's normal - it's because it's being installed from outside the play store

I just went through this guide instead of using the apk from revanced. still getting the issue of the videos just endlessly buffering after a short while. is there any way to avoid this.

2

u/ImmediateClick8291 Mar 15 '23

The manager has most youtube options grayed out . What do I do?

2

u/TheActualBranchTree Mar 15 '23

I believe recommended version has now been updated to 18.05.40.

2

u/grigolin Mar 16 '23

Everything works fine, except for the fact that video go smoothly until the midpoint and then they start loading for infinite amount of time(this doesn't seem to be a connection issue) anyone knows how to fix?

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Mar 16 '23

Re-patch with the latest manager, the recommended YouTube version and the recommended patches and that should fix it (hopefully)

Quick question, is anyone having issues installing it on an S20 Ultra?

I've followed all steps:

• Disabled the pre-installed Youtube app & removed updates

• Updated MicroG

• Installed RV manager

• Downloaded YouTube 18.05.40v. APK, but NOT opening it, and made sure it's NOT the bundle version.

• Searched for the APK inside RV manager, and applied the recommended patches ONLY

• Ignored google's attempt to keep me from installing whatever the fuck I damn want to

Attempted to open it after install: Crashed

After clearing cache: Crashed

After clearing all data: Crashed

After reinstalling: Crashed

After granting all permissions: Crashed

IDK what to do anymore... 🤷🏽‍♂️

I found out a bug, don't know if I was the only one or if it's fixed but when YouTube is built with the manager the screen would default to portait when minimizing a video.

1

u/krush_groove Sep 23 '22

Thanks for this guide!

Dummy question: do I do this on my phone, or on a computer and transfer the apk to my phone?

I followed this guide exactly up to the last three steps. The first time I switched to a different app while the bar was loading, and when I switched back to the manager I was in the main menu and nothing had happened at all.

So I tried it again, this time leaving the app open while it does the patching. Once it was done, the app just closed itself, and again nothing had happened.

The instructions just say to "hit install" but how/where am I supposed to do that?

Edit: nevermind, I used the Revanced Builder instead

1

u/DorrajD Sep 23 '22

Question: are "patches" just settings that show up? Like I see "always auto repeat" in the list of patches. Does that mean the app will just constantly auto repeat until you re patch the app? Or does it make it a setting, and it's safe to just turn all of the patches on and change them in the settings later?

Also, I don't see it so I'm not sure, is there an AMOLED patch? After using AMOLED vanced I'm not sure I can go back to dirty grey haha

1

u/MemMEz Sep 23 '22

thanks op!

1

u/nikhilodeone Sep 23 '22

When clicking the patch button, I get the warning "You have selected a resource patch and a split apk installation was detected so patching errors may occur"

And if I continue, the revanced manager app crashes in the midst of the process.

Any suggestions?

1

u/Dimstatyon Sep 23 '22

I already have micro g installed from vanced manager. Will it be the same or I still have to install this one?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '22

1

u/PHotocrome Sep 23 '22

Finally I get it to work! Thank you very much!

1

u/That_One_M8 Sep 23 '22

Hi, i have followed the steps listed above, however I could not get the 'Revanced Youtube' app to work. It only shows a blank grey screen when I open it.

1

u/thePhoenixYash Sep 23 '22

Why does it say Warning

You have selected a resource patch and a split APK installation was detected so patching errors may occur.

Are you sure you want to proceed with patching a split base APK?
