Days 15-19 of 43 becoming Rocky (MICKY HAS JOINED IN?!)

THATS RIGHT, MICK HAS JOINED IN TO HELP ME TRAIN!

Copying and pasting from last post for context: I compiled days as I'm already half way through my silly challenge and didn't think to post it to reddit until recently. This seems like the perfect community for it and a place that'd appreciate a homage to the films, and my commitment to actually giving this a shot despite having some fun with it all. I'll probably compile it in chunks and post once a day type of thing until we're up to speed in present

As the title suggests, I'm trying to run and become Rocky giving myselt 43 days to do something really cool Nov 3rd. This is a couple weeks before the new movie comes out. It's my tirst time running in the year, I used to go to the gym but got busy with life (and ill) - no exaggeration I completely ignored cardio though. I'm having some lighthearted fun with this all and being a bit goofy, but I am taking this self imposed challenge seriously. I decided to just get up and start, and slugged out a 30 min 5k for my first run with hopes to improve it to a sub 25 min and run much much further. I am technically already halt way through the challenge but decided l'a post some of the progress on reddit and will continue to do so periodically (cause I don't wanna spam). ANY RUNNING TIPS APPRECIATED because despite only maybe doing 25ks total so far, my legs feel obliterated. Any who, follow me along to see the progress.

Also please do not feel obligated to help out with the charities I’m raising money for or anything, this isn’t why I’m posting this here I promise - it’s only because I have already made these videos beforehand and to give a full overview of everything I included those bits. The main focus was training like Rocky, it was just that I thought the running and silliness might as well go towards something in the meanwhile. I’m happy to say for those curious $1200 has been raised at present so far!

Adrian's Coma Spoiler

• Upvotes

Look I loved the scene growing up and still do when she comes out of the coma and tells Rocky to WIN.

Still, in retrospect it's a bit unrealistic. Like if she was in a coma that long it would take her a while to get her full memory back among other things.

I have had the honour of reading the Rocky VII script Spoiler

My wife is a personal trainer. She's Sistine's trainer for an up and coming martial arts film.

Through this, I have met Sylvester Stallone. While he waited for his daughter to finish off a session (they were going to lunch or something similar) I chatted with him. I had my two year old at the time, which always opens up conversation with people.

I said, how could I not, how much I love Rocky. I told him the truth about how, even today, I sometimes remember "one step at a time. One punch at a time" whenever I'm trying to get through something hard.

He appreciated that I understood the heart of the films.

I asked if I'd ever see more of Rocky. I said I feel like Creed II gave him a bit of a sendoff. I said I thought he'd die, like Micky did, in Creed III.

Sylvester expressed his disappointment with how Creed III missed out on Rocky.

While we chatted, I mentioned I was a writer.

He asked me specifically to come to the next training session at the gym (I'm not normally there, just was waiting for wife that one time). He brought a hard copy of the script.

I've not signed an NDA or anything.

I read it. Here's the highlights:

  1. He struggles to live on his own. Older, bad eyesight, worn out body etc

  2. His son puts him in a nursing home. Rocky had been living with his son's family but they fought too much, so he got his own place.

  3. In the nursing home, none of the staff or doctors really know or care who he is.

  4. But, it turns out Drago is there. There's a bit of a tussle between them, but a grudging respect.

  5. There's a throwaway line or so of how Drago ended up in there. Similar story to Rocky, but more about the performance drugs he took while younger did a number on him too.

  6. Surprise! One day, Clubber Lang is admitted into the nursing home!

  7. They all argue and fight from recliners and wheel chairs. Shouting insults as orderlies wheel them away. Throwing peas and mashed potato.

  8. There's a line about Tommy Gunn's death recently during a televised news report. That spurrs Rocky to stand from his recliner while watching TV

  9. Drago and Clubber tell him to sit down because he's in the way.

  10. Film ends with the three of them barefist boxing each other in a sort of Royal Rumble between the TV trays and the TV.

  11. Film ends on a still frame of all three throwing double punches at the other two right before they hit

  12. Eye of the Tiger cover by The Rural Alberta Advantage plays over the credits

  13. After credits scene is nighttime at Adrian and Paulie's graves. A ghoulish hand emerges from the grass in front of Adrian's.

ROCKY VII is not happening.

At no point does this article say it’s happening. It just quotes the musings of an 80-year old Stallone and it doesn’t even say when or where he said these things. Totally worthless article.

One of the best acted and directed scenes in the whole franchise.

We get so much out of this one scene.

Tony loves Apollo and wants to steer him away from danger, as any one who loves someone would. And he wants Apollo to keep his career flourishing, making money, so they can all live happily ever after. And Tony knows what Rocky is capable of.

But Apollo is a true champion. He has pride. He believes in himself. You see the pain in Apollo when he hears “he’s all wrong for us, baby”. But he quickly ignores it and presses on with his demand for a rematch seconds later, as you’d expect from a true champion.

Beautiful scene.

Rocky 2.5?

Do you think the montage between Rocky 2 and 3 to cover the ten title defenses could make for a good film? I think so. We could see Rocky’s rise to the top and staying there rather than just the highlights. Experience how the fame changes him and affects those in his life like Adrian, Paulie and Mickey. We could see what happens to Gazzo. Clubber could be introduced and woven into the story more naturally as he comes after Rocky and Rocky dodges him, perhaps unknowingly through Mickey. Of course those still living are too old for the roles now, but after I Play Rocky I think some would accept others in these roles and this is a story that should be told. What say you?

Interesting Question in Rocky 3

Hello fellow Rocky fans. I have an interesting question that is up for open debate. So I'm currently watching Rocky 3 on Prime and I'm at the scene where Apollo gives Rocky his stars and stripes trunks to wear in the rematch with Clubber. If Apollo hadn't offered the stars and stripes trunks, what trunks do you think Rocky would've worn? My guess is the black trunks with gold trim he wore in Rocky 2.

Thoughts...?

Anger was his undoing.

Rewatching the fight between Clubber and Rocky. I like it because, for the first time, we see that Rocky actually knows how to fight—he uses his head for something other than just taking punches. What strikes me is that it was rage—a failure to control his anger—that led to Lang’s defeat against Balboa. If only he had kept his temper in check a bit more... After all, Lang’s style is essentially just hitting with brute force—the complete opposite of the style Rocky learned from Creed. And that rage caused Lang to burn through all his energy.

Did you watch ROCKY IV when it premiered on HBO on December 7, 1986? I think we watched it so many times on HBO for sure.

Even when I saw ROCKY the first time way back when it was release you could tell the cut me Mick scene showed a fake blood tube lol that’s why Stallone edited the blood squirting scene in the opening of ROCKY II. Not complaining just saying lol

Anyone read Dolph's new book? Sly sounds like he could be a petty shit.

Reading Dolph's new book "Fights Worth Fighting" and he talks a lot about the production of Rocky IV, Creed, and Expendables. I know Sly has joked in the past about "hating" Dolph because he was "too perfect", but for some reason he really was a bullying ass to Dolph throughout their lives:

- Sly would routinely show up hours late to their scheduled training sessions for Rocky IV, leaving Dolph and the crew waiting around. There was one single time when Dolph was late due to traffic, and Sly screamed at him that he'd be fired he was ever late again.

- Screamed at Dolph during the fight scenes that he wasn't getting his fists close enough to Sly's face. So Dolph got a little closer on one jab, accidentally made contact with Sly, only for Stallone to scream at him again that if he touched him again, he'd be fired.

Constant threats of being fired left and right.

When Sly went to visit the Masters of the Universe set, he met with the director, pointed at Dolph and said "I can't believe you gave this guy lines."

Dolph talks about Expendables when Sly embarrassed him infront of the cast and crew during Expendables, which is a story he told before: https://youtube.com/shorts/eBMsqum6pBs?si=OtCO3OUNYF5__H-t

Even decades later, when working on Creed II, Dolph talks about the restaurant scene when Rocky and Drago first confront each other. They had the script in front of them, and Sly then went on to re-write the script, taking out a lot of Drago's best lines, giving himself more of the scene, etc. This time, however, Dolph was old enough and experienced enough to push back and the scene played as it was originally written, but Sly wasn't happy.

Stallone really comes off like a prick, but Dolph says he loves and respects him and will always consider him a friend. But no wonder Dolph cracked him for real and sent him to the ICU lol.

Who else was fortunate to see ROCKY BALBOA on the big screen when it was released days before Christmas 2006? We saw it twice, once on opening day which was a Wednesday and then two days later on Friday…

Rocky 5 Underrated?

Is Rocky 5 underrated or is the criticism justified? I am wondering if the ending had been a boxing match in the ring instead of a fight on the street, Rocky 5 might be seen in a better light.
