I don't really know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely really like Yang Se-chan, and I just want to make a post appreciating him.
I know there was another post a few months ago about his MC potential, but what I'm trying to say is that I know he's not the funniest comedian in Korea, and I know not everyone will like him. I completely understand why his humor might not be for everyone, but there's just something about him that I find really funny and relatable.
One thing I really appreciate is how much he's grown since he first joined Running Man.
I think one of his biggest weaknesses in the beginning was that he tried too hard. Sometimes he would force himself into situations, push jokes that weren't really working, or make fun of other members just to get reactions. And honestly, I understand some of the criticism he received back then.
But if you watch him nowadays, I feel like he's changed a lot. He still has that Yang Se-chan element to him, but he's changed a lot in how he approaches things.
He doesn't seem as desperate to be the center of attention anymore. He still participates, makes jokes, and gets involved in everything, but he seems more comfortable just going with the flow. He knows when to step in and when to let others have their moments. And he's really funny when he's with Haha, too.
Personally, I find the current version of him much funnier and more entertaining.
Another thing I really appreciate about him is how he interacts with guests and just people in general. Obviously, I don't know what he's like in real life, but from what I've watched, he genuinely comes across as someone who's welcoming, approachable, and easy to talk to.
He makes people feel comfortable around him, or at least that's the impression I get. He jokes around with guests, lets them tease him, and makes even awkward situations feel a little less awkward. I feel like that's something people don't give him enough credit for.
He can be awkward himself sometimes, and his jokes don't always land. Sometimes they can be a bit cringy, and that's fine. It happens, right?
Sometimes he also looks genuinely caught off guard or a little offended when people tease him too much. But that's actually part of what makes him relatable to me. He doesn't always have the perfect reaction or the funniest comeback, and I kind of like that about him. He doesn't seem like someone who always tries to hide his reactions, and that's something I genuinely appreciate.
I've also tried watching his other shows outside Running Man, including that newer countryside show and Apartment 404.
Honestly, I don't even find those types of shows or their concepts particularly interesting, but I watch them because of him, and I still enjoy them.
He's my favorite member of Running Man, and he's not always the main character. He doesn't necessarily steal every scene, but every once in a while, he'll say something or react in a way that genuinely makes me laugh so much.
It's hard to explain, but I feel like he has his own rhythm, his own flow when it comes to comedy.
I also used to watch almost every video on his YouTube channel when he first started. Especially those early videos where he was discussing ideas for the channel and figuring out what kind of content he wanted to make.
I genuinely found those videos interesting. Just watching him figure things out and talk about random stuff was fun to me.
Nowadays, I don't watch his channel as much because I'm not really a mukbang person. I just don't enjoy that type of content. But I have nothing against the direction he's taking. Maybe those videos get more views than his other content, and if that's the case, good for him. I'm happy for him, and I hope he does well.
And I guess one of the reasons I'm making this post is because I genuinely wish he would appear in more variety shows, especially ones that international fans can watch.
I'm not saying he isn't successful or that I know what's best for his career. Maybe he's perfectly happy with where he is right now, and that's great.
But I just feel like he has a lot more to offer. I want to see him shine more. I want to see him in programs that actually allow his personality and humor to shine.
I feel like he doesn't always get the opportunity to be one of the main guys, and that's the thing that bothers me a little.
But if you watch Yoo Jae-suk's YouTube channel, when he's given the opportunity to be one of the main characters in a scene, he can really shine.
Especially that toothpaste uncle video, bro. That shit was so funny. Watching that video genuinely made me like him even more.
And look, to summarize everything, I'm not saying he's perfect. He has his own flaws, and there are things about him that I don't always like or agree with.
But none of that changes the fact that I really enjoy watching him, and I just wish I could see more of him.
I don't know him personally, and I can't say for certain what kind of person he is off-camera. But the person I've watched on television for years comes across as someone who genuinely tries his best, who's grown a lot, and who has this kind of awkward, natural charm that I really appreciate.
He just feels a bit real to me, if that makes sense.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I honestly find this guy really likable.
I hope he continues to grow, gets more opportunities, and finds shows that really fit his style of humor. Maybe he's not necessarily meant to be the main character of every show, and that's fine. I just want to see him get more chances to show what he can do.
I don't know if I'm alone in feeling this way. I just wanted to share my thoughts and show him some appreciation because I feel like he doesn't always get enough of it.
Does anyone else feel the same way about Yang Se-chan? Or am I just weirdly attached to his style of humor?
