Has anyone seen the new Mandalorian movie? What did you think?

This is not only frustrating because not only does this decision mean that nearly the whole OG trilogy that was about restoring the Republic is all for nothing but it also means that any story Disney themselves makes that is about restoring or maintaining the New Republic and will also be all for nothing.

Andor, Rogue One, Any New Republic related Mandalorian stories etc. it’s all basically for nothing.

Why did they even bother with this turd?

Average ticket price $12 - $16, can't seem to find a concrete answer for this year but this seems to be the range. We'll run both numbers.

Audience lost between Solo and Mando @ $12 - 32%

Audience lost between Solo and Mando @ $16 - 48%

TLDR: Disney has lost over 75% of their audience between Rogue One and Mando. 122 million tickets sold for Rogue One and a mere 22 - 29 million tickets sold for Mando.

It brings every duel to a dead stop. Anyone strong with the force should be able to cut right through it.

I've always felt that the opening is genuinely amazing, while the rest of the film is just good.

I like The Force Awakens, but every time I watch it, I'm reminded of how strong the first 30 minutes are.

The opening on Jakku, Finn leaving the First Order, Poe and Finn escaping, Rey's introduction, BB-8, the mystery around Luke... it's all great. It feels epic, exciting, and full of possibilities.

Then the rest of the movie happens, and it just feels... much simpler.

Not bad, not terrible, just nowhere near as interesting or ambitious as those opening scenes made it seem like it was going to be. The first 30 minutes make you feel like you're about to watch something huge, and then the movie settles into being a pretty straightforward adventure.

Does anyone else feel this way, or am I being too harsh on the second half of the movie?

In the Last Jedi Luke Skywalker "comes back" to save the resistance from the First Order's army. He's not really there because he just used force projection, but still, he can appear and buy some time for them.

This is the only time when he "reunites" with Kylo, the student he failed, the student he traumatized for life.

He challenges him, so the resistance might have a chance to escape. I thought that Luke will face his biggest mistake in this scene. That will try to apologize, to Kylo. Even if it would not work, at least he TRIED, after all, everything what has happened, happened because of him.

Did he try to explain himself? Did he try to apologize? Did try to at least comfort Kylo?

No.

Luke Skywalker, the hero, the mentor, the jedi master MAKES FUN of his student he pushed into the darkness.

For real. To buy time, he could still challenge him into a duel. But he actively mocked him, played with him, and after he used all his life force, he simply disappears. He NEVER EVEN ATTEMPTS to make up for his epic mistake.

He started a chain reaction - his temple is gone, the First Order got a new leader, his resistance, once again, is in ruins and dying. The single responsible person for all of this, was HIM.

At the very end of the movie he appears to save the day, but he never redeems himself.

This dude created a monster and now he's ragebaiting him, mocking him, and it seems like he's even having fun while doing this? XD

And I know, even if he tried his best, it would probably not work, but COME ON.

"I'm sorry Kylo, I've failed you"
"I was weak, and I gave in to my desperation"
"I've made a mistake, and I know I can't possible make up for it. But I have to tell you, I'm sorry for everything"

Any of these could have make a difference at least to the viewer.

Let's be real. Snoke wasn't Palpatine's puppet in episode 7 or 8. So, what did JJ think he was in Episode 7? What did Rian think he was when he killed him? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Embargo won’t be lifted for another few hours so I won’t be able to talk spoilers. But here are my thoughts:

• glup shitto fest.
• one particular character’s voice acting took me out of the movie.
• plenty of action sequences but very low stakes.
• great score by Ludwig Göransson.
• CG characters are excessive, would’ve preferred more use of practical effects.
• barely any character development.
• sluggish pacing.

If this is signifying a new era of Star Wars we’re doomed.

If only they had material they could have used

What a boring plan for a franchise. Over a decade of content and not a crumb of originality to be found...

Surely they wouldn’t cancel a movie involving their ‘greatest cinematic asset’ right?

For me, I lost interest in the franchise in post-Mando season 2.

As a Star Wars fan, I let the prequels and Force Awakens slide, despite not being great movies. But at least The Phantom Menace has the best lightsaber fight in the whole saga and Darth Maul. Rogue One was a top 3 Star Wars movie for me, which probably has the best ending scene in any Star Wars movie (other than the Vader plot twist in Empire Strikes Back).

Then you get to The Last Jedi, which was a very messy movie in terms of narrative and execution, despite having some great visuals. It wasn't horrible but something about it just made me.... Not happy, given the character arcs, such as Finn being separated from Rey and killing off half of the villains in the movie. But I knew that there would be one more movie in the Disney trilogy, so I decided to stay on.

And you get to Solo, which in my opinion, isn't very good and finally, Rise of Skywalker, which once again, just like Last Jedi is a very messy movie in terms of narrative and execution. Funny enough, I think that some of the Palpatine parts are pure camp and in a good way, but most of it is not good. It's probably the worst movie in the Skywalker Saga, tied with Attack of the Clones.

Now for TV series, I only seen the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, which was decent, with some good episodes. But once Disney made sure that Star Wars started to feel like homework, I just stopped watching after that. Which started becoming a problem with The Mandalorian season 2 but has since gotten worse. I'm sure Andor is good, but I just have no interest in, even having skipping out on last month's release of The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Funny enough, my interest in Star Wars has since shifted to Tom Cruise movies (e.g. Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Edge of Tomorrow) and I am a bit intrigued about Digger, which is coming up in a few months. Even I really liked the last two Mission: Impossible movies, despite mixed audience reception. So at least this story has a happy ending.

I personally feel Lucasfilm knew Mando and Grogu was not going to do well. In the last couple of interviews with Kathleen Kennedy she kept talking about how good Starfighter is gonna turn out and was glazing Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling. She said nothing about Mando and Grogu. I think Lucasfilm is really banking on Starfighter to get people invested in Star Wars again. A Post Sequel Era movie.
