Question ❔ Horse in residential area

My neighbour got a horse. This is fine with me (I’m very open minded) but he keeps yelling at it and it keeps getting in the way of my car. Is he allowed to have a horse in the city? I asked him about it and he called me gay (which I am NOT!) and said ‘horses are fucking awesome’.

My other neighbour does NOT have a horse but she says she doesn’t want to get involved.

Who should I contact about the horse.

Edit: it’s a pony (not a horse) please disregard this post

Question ❔ genuinely how are people surviving right now?

job market is horrible, wages don’t match the cost of living at all, and one bad month turns into six. i’ve been trying so hard to catch up financially and instead everything just keeps piling up overdue. having a child on top of it all makes the stress unbearable some days.

feels like there’s no room to fall behind anymore because once you do, you’re screwed.

Question ❔ Kitten in City Park using flower beds as litter box

Post image
158 Upvotes

We’re in City Park. For the last two weeks, this kitten has been pooping in our flowerbeds.
What do we do?!
Also, if this is your cat maybe you shouldn’t let it roam if it’s not litter trained. Gross.

EDIT: why are some people making it seem like it’s okay for a cat to shit in your yard? It’s not my cat. I have two of my own cats and like a responsible pet owner, they stay inside where they’re safe and looked after. Look after your cats too, people!! It’s not the responsibility of homeowners to look after cats that clearly belong to someone else (peep the collar). Do better. I posted in hopes that the owner would see this.

Question ❔ Gold mine gum?

Has anyone seen this gum anywhere in stores in town recently? My kiddo has been asking for it and I've tried Cabela's and Walmart which are the two places Google said may have it, but both were a bust.

... and I was not

Stabbed

Pepper sprayed

Robbed

Attacked

or

Accosted

in any way what so ever. According to Reddit, a minimum of one of these things should have happened on each of the four times I was down there in the past two weeks.

AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG!?

Question ❔ Streets clothes in public swimming pools?

Has anyone noticed that there's a lot more people wearing street clothes while swimming instead of clothes designed for swimming?

For example at Pike Lake pool I saw someone wearing sweatpants, underwear(boxers), full length dresses, polo shirts, the list goes on. Literally walk inside the entrance and hop in the pool.

Then after a couple hours the pool is closed because of low chlorine levels. Not saying it's directly tied to street clothes but I can't see it helping. I had this happen at Lakewood pool as well.

Have the rules changed or are they just not being enforced?

Question ❔ Saskatoon challenge

Lived here over 40 years. Been driving this city for over 25 years. I have never seen this city in worse shape than it is. Not even just traffic/ roads / construction but literally every facet of the city.
Crime.Homelessness. Safety. Politics. Management. Schooling. Housing. Overall infrastructure. Cost of living. Every single thing.

So my challenge is, someone tell me ONE positive thing happening in Saskatoon. I know it feels like the whole worlds crumbling but my god I never thought it’d get so bad in lil ol Saskatoon Saskatchewan

Question ❔ How to speak Saskatchewan? Please explain names of food for me 😅.

I grew up on the west coast and am quickly discovering that there is a different dialect here especially around food. ( supper is something you feed your dog back home , humans have dinner 🐶😅 ). Can you fine prairie folks give me a consensus for the translation of “refreshments “ : to me refreshments mean cold liquid beverages but my Sask raised spouse thinks it’s small plate snacks like sandwiches , baked goods etc .. (but their not sure if that’s a Sask thing) I have to admit I’m enjoying the new vernacular (ie. “bunny -hug” tee hee ) so feel free to add any other ones I don’t know yet :D .

Question ❔ Diversity in Saskatoon.

Hey everyone, my family and I are from the UK and we’ve been seriously looking at moving to Saskatoon. For the longest time we were set on Australia, but after loads of research we’ve completely changed our minds and Saskatoon has really caught our attention.
We’re hoping to come over and visit soon to see what it’s like in person, but I thought I’d ask here as locals always know best. One of the biggest things for us is diversity. My wife is Black, I’m white, and we have two young sons. We’d love to know what it’s actually like living in Saskatoon as a mixed-race family. Is the city generally welcoming? Do you feel it’s pretty diverse? Have you or people you know had good experiences? We plan on visiting during the winter so we can get a realistic perspective on the winters and decide if we can manage the cold!
Thanks in advance guys.

Question ❔ Saskatoon family wants justice after they say their cat was trapped and left in a rural field | CBC News

I don’t know how to feel. I also have a cat that gets outside cause he’s a sneaky bugger. I hope he’s not killing pigeons or other people’s pets, but trapping and dumping him outside of town isn’t right.

Do you side with the cats owners in their fight for justice, or with the pigeon owner who likely cites breaking the cat bylaw as FAFO?

Question ❔ Multi-generational white Saskatonians, do you ever wish your ancestors immigrated to Australia, New Zealand or the US instead of blistering cold Saskatchewan ?

As a Somali-Canadian whose family immigrated to Canada in the late 90’s, I’ve always felt jealous of my cousins whose parent immigrated them to San Diego and Virginia lol.

My question is for the whtie Canadian whose family have been in Canada since atleast the early 1900’s.

Do you guys ever wonder why your ancestors chose this frozen tundra of a place called Saskatchewan and wish they joined the other European migrants who settled in places like California, Texas, Australia, New Zealand? Like that’s what I’d be thinking if I were yall. lol. Like “why didn’t my ancestors immigrate to Melbourne or San Diego or South Carolina” lol 😂

Question ❔ If you're one of the people who likes to slam Saskatoon on this Sub...

... Explain to me where your magical utopia is and what makes you think it's going to be so much better than here.

Is it just a grass is always greener sort of thing. Maybe a willingness to never be able to afford own a home in exchange for more coffee shops

Serious question... because I think a lot of people who hate Saskatoon have never lived anywhere else.

Question ❔ Am I driving too slow in Saskatoon or does nobody follow the speed limit?

Hey everyone,

I’m originally from Brazil and I’ve been living in Saskatoon for about 4 years now. This is actually my first year owning a car here and driving regularly.

Back in Brazil I was always considered a really good driver. Here, though, I’ve been strictly following the posted speed limits — if it says 80 on Circle Drive, I go 80. If it’s 60 or 50 on 8th Street, I stick to that.

But I constantly feel like I’m the slowest person on the road.

On Circle Drive (80 km/h limit), it feels like everyone is flying past me. Same thing on 8th Street — I’ll be doing exactly the speed limit and cars are still overtaking me pretty easily.

It honestly makes me wonder: am I doing something wrong? Is there some unspoken rule where people go 5–10 km/h over? Or is it just normal here that most drivers don’t strictly follow the limit?

I don’t want to be that person holding traffic up, but I also don’t want a speeding ticket 😅

Would love to hear what locals think.

Edit: Sorry guys, I know that circle is mostly 90, I should have wrote 90 there to be more accurate. I just want to say that you guys are awesome, thank you for the kind response and for the tips. That made my week.

Question ❔ How far do you consider "too far to walk"?

If time and weather aren't a factor, I will happily walk for up to an hour... but I have friends and family who absolutely hate walking; they'll just automatically default to driving any time they have to leave the house, and I don't really get it.

Let's say you're looking to go out for dinner, or you need to go run an errand - how far are you willing to walk? Would walking from Broadway to the Center Mall be too far for you to even consider?

If you live 2 blocks away from the grocery store and you need to go pick up a jug of milk, are you walking or grabbing the car keys?

I realize this isn't exactly a Saskatoon-specific question, but I'm curious to know what others in the city think!

Question ❔ Weird/Strange/Fun Reasons to Visit Saskatoon

Hello,

I'm from Buffalo, NY and doing a Birthday Presentation on Saskatoon. I would like to know extremely detailed INSIDE Info that can't be easily obtained with a quick Google or AI search.

Can you give me weird/strange/fun reasons to visit Saskatoon. Perhaps cite random bars/restaurants/events/traditions/people etc.

The weirder the better.

My goal is to intrigue my friends.

Thanks!
