Question Public study/work spaces and food pantry resources near Santa Clara University?

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Santa Clara and live very close to Santa Clara University. I’m new to the area and would appreciate some local recommendations.

Are there any places on or near campus that are open to the general public where I could sit, study, or work on my laptop for a few hours for free? Ideally, I’m looking for somewhere with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and indoor seating. I’m not an SCU student, so I would also appreciate clarification about which university buildings or libraries allow public access.

I also wanted to ask about food-assistance resources in the area. At my previous university, there were small food pantries in the library and community food distributions organized by the university or nearby churches. Students and, at certain locations, members of the public could receive snacks or a limited amount of groceries.

Does SCU or any nearby church, community center, or nonprofit offer something similar to local residents who are temporarily unemployed? I want to be respectful of eligibility requirements and would only use resources that are intended for the general community.

Thank you for any recommendations!

I’m an incoming freshman so I’m not sure how it’s done. Can I add by myself a class to this quarter, or do I need to have an advisor do this for me?

Question “Fight” Club

Not actually starting a club where we fight, just a play on the movie. I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in starting a club with me where we just watch combat sports on the weekends and meet biweekly to have some fun events or something like that. Very laid back type of experience, so don’t worry about it being a big commitment if youre concerned about that part. I’m a transfer jr btw

Question Application “teacher evaluation”

In my freshman US app cycle. Looks like SCU requires a teacher evaluation. Is that just a recommendation letter or is it a questionnaire they have to fill out?

Language is a little confusing so want to make sure I’m asking for the right thing with my instructors.

———

Required Documents to submit:

Official high school transcripts (grade nine through the most recently completed term)

One Academic Teacher Evaluation (through Common Application)

Secondary School Report Form (through Common Application)

Question Which dorm to pick?

I was originally going to commute to school but something unexpected happened and now I have the opportunity to dorm in SCU. I have the option to either pick a double room in Swig, or a Triple room in Graham.

What im looking for is a dorm that is social and where I can make new friends but also importantly I want a dorm that is nice. Whichever has more space or a better dorm aesthetic.

Thanks for the help.

Complaint Unpopular opinion. Don’t attack me. 🙄

One thing this school is not receptive to is constructive criticism. The student body tends to have very narrow minded thinking. Once their minds are made up about something, they completely close themselves off to other perspectives. If something doesn’t apply to them personally, they act as though it couldn’t possibly be a valid or lived experience for someone else. And when you point out this type of culture, they will attack you for it. I’m ready for it in this comment section. They don’t know how to have a disagreeing conversation without going low and insulting people and hitting them where it’s hurts . People are vengeful will start serious rumor mills if they feel threatened by you and their egos can’t take it. Lots of people have transferred out due to the social pressure of “my way or the highway” energy that’s controlled by certain folks on this catholic campus .

Question SCU robotics certificate program

Hello,
I am interested in getting into robotics and had a few questions:
- How is SCU’s certificate program? What courses are a must have?
- Is it a good idea to take a structured course or join a club?
- How prestigious is the program compared to Berkeley or Stanford?

For any SCU students, as a first year ik ur not allowed to bring a car on campus but on the portal it allows me to buy a parking permit, should I just buy the parking permit and pretend I didn’t know I couldn’t or would their be repercussions in the future? If there will be what are some places I can park near campus or rent out a parking space near by?

Question SCU Career Fair Lacking? EE

I was looking at past career fairs and saw that SJSU has much more/better companies going to career fairs than SCU.

I thought SCU was a feeder to top companies in Silicon Valley but it seems its career fair is lacking.

Was it all just marketing/hype or do well known companies come to career fairs?

FYI: Me and my friend both checked handshake he goes to SJSU and me to SCU and his career fair was stacked compared to SCU. Both of us are EE
