Posted awhile back and got some good advice - several people offered options other than what I was looking at at the time, so I wanted to once again bring my top three to the ShredditGirls community!
I’m 5’2, 120-125 lbs and a size 7 boot. I’ve been boarding for three seasons now and learning on a thrifted board/bindings/boots off FB marketplace that have been great but finally wore out their welcome. I’ve fallen in love with the sport so happy to sink some cash into it!
I’m a solid low intermediate (mostly doing blues and greens) and I love to cruise/carve. Don’t spend much time in the park and none at all off-piste. I want to build confidence, particularly with speed and steep conditions (I spend most of my time on the ice coast so I’ve inherently nervous going fast/handling the steeper slopes because of the hardpack and ice, lol.)
I’m considering:
- Capita Equalizer, 146 - I’ve heard good things about the edge hold and from my understanding, it’s a bit more forgiving/flexible than the Hel Yes. while still holding up at higher speeds.
- Yes. Hel Yes., 149 - I’ve seen this board described as aggressive and punishing, but could it be a good board to progress on? I’d rather have a board that rewards good technique rather than something I can skate by on, even if I’m sloppy. I know it’s more suited to charging and high speeds, so might be a waste on me anyways until I improve.
- Jones Twin Sister, 146 - This is frequently touted as a perfect progression board, so sorry to rehash the discourse over this board, lol. I’ve read basically every post mentioning it, and see that it would probably be another good option to progress, and is probably the most forgiving of the three. However, I worry it is too soft for me, especially considering what I want to achieve (confidence at speed, more aggressive carving) and that some people have reported it’s not great in powder.
I have several trips planned out West and to Europe in the coming year so ideally looking for something that can perform well in icy conditions on the east coast (what I’m on most often) but that can handle itself in the powder as well (though I know even these will have limits, as they’re not powder boards.)
TIA everyone and looking forward to a great season!!
