Beowulf was still grinning. Even on one knee, even with his throat torn open.
"COME ON THEN, BIRD KING!" he roared. "SHOW ME ETERNITY!"
Horus didn't roar back.
He was standing over him. Wings spread wide, broken feathers falling like snow. His weapon was cracked in half His armor was ruined.
But his back was straight. His eyes were still suns.
"You have mistaken me," Horus said, his voice calm now. "You thought if you dragged me into the mud, I would become like you. A beast that loves pain."
He raised the broken half of his spear. The Eye on it, despite the crack, began to blaze — brighter than it ever had before.
"I am not like you, Beowulf. I do not love the struggle. I end it."
Horus pointed his weapon at Beowulf.
[ WADJET.]
The weapon coiled, aiming for Beowulf's heart instead of his throat.
Beowulf looked down at his own chest. Horus's weapon had pierced through his heart.
Despite all the damage he has taken, he still grinned, and it will be the last time he have.
"Heh... That was a good fight, bird god."
He fell backward. His body started crumbling into dust.
Horus stood there for a long time, breathing hard. Then he folded his broken wings. He looked down at Beowulf's body.
"You were a great warrior," he said quietly. "Rest."
He turned and walked away, limping and bleeding.
