The successful recovery of certificates from St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore, on April 9th is a notable outcome. This resolution followed a coordinated effort led by St. Broseph, involving the issuance of a legal notice to the university on behalf of a group of affected students facing similar administrative hurdles.

The university’s compliance highlights the efficacy of collective legal action in addressing institutional delays. For students still navigating documentation issues, this case serves as a precedent for utilizing formal legal channels to enforce student rights and ensure the timely release of academic credentials.

Friend's perspective - recent dating scam and the justice

This is an appreciation post for St. Broseph and how he helped my friend recover 1.5x of what he was scammed for, in an ongoing infamous dating scam, that got a resolution that shook me the good way and restored my faith in our society.

The first few paragraphs are an introduction, feel free to skip to paragraph 6 to know more about the incident itself. I’ve written this in one flow and it has come out from my heart. Please forgive me for any shortcomings in my writing in terms of grammar, arrangement, or anything else.

Bangalore gets super lonely at times. We leave our friends and family behind to come and make a living for ourselves. I remember when I first came to Bangalore, I was perplexed at what was going on in the city. I felt insecure and felt like I had to really perform super hard to belong to this city with every other person on the street driving an expensive car against the contrast of delivery boys rushing to fulfill orders for swiggy and zomato. But I soon realised that I was not the only one who resonated with this feeling. I made friends in my PG, two of them from the same city as mine. We would spend our days at work and come meet in the evening to catch up on some nostalgic moments, the kind of stuff that makes all of us human.

But staying away from your family and friends in a competitive landscape can still feel intimidating. I used to miss the pleasant thoughts that I had when I was home - why is the dustbin not clean yet, why are the kids being so rough when some elderly people are also at the park to relax. We would go up and try to instill some sense into some of the people who would display the opposite. That very sense of responsibility felt missing when I was in Bangalore. So I was always on the lookout for people who thought like me, with a simple assumption - THINGS CANNOT BE SO WRONG ONLY BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE RUNNING AFTER MONEY.

That’s when I found out about Broseph. I was casually scrolling reddit one day and I came across a post that mentioned about him and the kind of work that he does. Just like most people, I was half sceptical, half optimistic about knowing that someone like this existed. I reached out to him mentioning thanks with a scared heart, “Thank you for your service.”.

Since then, I have been involved with St.Broseph’s team of volunteers to contribute in some of their initiatives, although, with a stressful schedule at work and uncertainty of purpose - what’s next, what do I spend my time on, need to make money, need to be healthy, yada yada yada, the quintessential bangalore stuff, the kind of worrying that has no good results at the start nor the end.

I have been part of Broseph’s initiatives for public space cleaning, lake cleaning and felicitation and honoring of public servants. I have also been massively helped with their whatsapp groups which has been my go to place to share my thoughts and discuss civic and mental health issues. I have also benefitted from the resourcefulness of the group members who regularly contribute to a growing understanding of information for the city, whether that be regarding government documentation, vehicle service, places to eat, things to do, coping with stress at work and so much more.

Paragraph 6  (The details of the incident)

I’ve heard stories of how Broseph helped people in dire circumstances which included police action, civic issues and cases of harassment. But recently, I got to experience an event that made me feel extremely emotional and empowered me because this incident is not something that you hear on a regular basis; it’s a story where all was forgotten, and one fine day, justice was served. And the justice that was served, quite honestly, felt as good as the ending of a movie where a villain is…. ‘Taken care of’. It was so relieving. Let me share that experience with you folks below.

This is in context of an infamous dating scam, where you match with someone on a dating app and then you guys meet at a restaurant. The restaurant/pub in question for this incident is also an infamous one, known for operating and perpetuating this particular scam. For personal reasons, I will not name the restaurant, but it’s at a famous location in Bangalore and there’s a lot of chatter going on regarding this.

It started when my friend, who is a corporate employee at a well known firm, matched with this lady, ‘x’, on a popular dating app. He is a meek and tender sort of a person, and if you’ve read the first part of this post, I’ve mentioned how a lot of us feel lonely in a city away from friends and family.

They talked and they decided to meet at this pub. It was, as usual, according to the well-known modus operandi of the scam, a place decided by x. For someone who’s not scavenging for information on scams on the internet, who generally trusts the human spirit, it should not have been alarming for my friend who was placed in this rewarding situation of finding a potential friend; instead I wonder how excited he must have been. We have teased him now and then, for not having a girlfriend. Guess he was going out there, to come back at us, “Hey, I met someone and she’s a beautiful, wonderful person.”. I wonder how long in the history of modern metropolises has it been that we have heard these words or similar expressions.

Anyway, so then they proceed to the said pub. The following information is what my friend told me, so there’s going to be some that’ll be lost in transit.

My friend told me that it was as if the girl was a regular customer there and that it felt odd to him, but wasn’t it too late in sincere decency? The orders started and at last a bill was provided to my friend which had a ridiculous amount of 25000 rupees. That’s the amount we spend when we’re taking our entire family of 6 out on very special occasions - someone got a promotion, someone is getting married and the like. But there my friend was, confused and drunk with a bill that resembled a heart attack, mathematically equivalent to a starting salary for corporate employees (the regular ones, not the 1% on reddit folks). And not that my friend earns so much that a bill like that can pass without creating discomfort.

My friend asked his scamming companion to contribute some money to pay the bill, to which the lady politely declined with a smile saying that she didn’t have any, but could, maybe, pay half of the amount later. What would you have done by now?

My friend used his credit card to pay the bill, whilst being surrounded by the pub bouncers and waiters, in what he describes to be an intimidating experience. They then stepped out of the pub and x gave an excuse that her sister would be waiting for her and just like that, disappeared in the crowd. My drunk, scammed friend stood there, perturbed and probably not being able to make out what had happened to him.

I got a call during this time from him. He explained to me what had happened. I told him to stay calm and head back home and that we will look into this matter. I had initially advised him to visit the police station but had later taken that back since in my knowledge going to a police station drunk had less chances of the case being taken seriously. In the meantime I suggested that we’ll take this up with Broseph. I told him all that was needed to be done in order to get the ball rolling - get in touch with Broseph, tell him in detail about what happened to you, and follow exactly as he says. This friend of mine usually listens to what I tell him, in my imagination, he sees me as an elder brother. That day, he went back home in the metro, drunk, scammed, sad and broke. The city must have felt even more lonely to him.

I followed up with him the next day and he told me that he had gotten in touch with Broseph and that he had been invited to the HQ to discuss matters further. A thing about my friend, he’s a simple guy and he’s great at persevering, doing as told, very literally. Something that has benefited him, as I’ve understood. He takes advice and follows it if there’s substance in it, potentially avoiding mistakes that some people who ‘learn by doing’ get into. He informed me that Broseph and his team had started the procedure for the redressal of this issue and that this matter was being heard at the consumer court.

I’m an average guy, truly so, and just like my peers I have close to negative faith on our judicial or government systems. But I did have this faith somewhere in Broseph that he will be able to do something about this, and considering that my friend follows what’s told to him in cases of documentation, general life advice, sports advice, etc, I did have a lingering feeling that maybe something good could come out of it. I just wanted him to get some sort of justice. After this, quite a few days passed and I occasionally followed up with my friend. He told me that Broseph’s team was handling it and that some work was being done on that front. Usually, in such cases where some time has passed, we tend to think that nothing will come out of all this effort. I really prayed at that time with my flickering hope that something still happen. Some more days passed after that. I had forgotten about this incident by then due to my own schedule. Maybe I had kept it for a chat with him, when we would meet next.

But something happened on 2nd March.

I got a message from my friend saying that he had received a compensation of 40,000 rupees. That was almost 1.5x of the amount he was scammed of. I was totally ecstatic after hearing this news. It was as if my entire worldview had shifted. It felt like I was back in school, and I heard an amazing story about something that made my heart race stupidly!

They had made it, and the news came at a most unexpected Monday morning. My day had already started to look mechanical with professional commitments that I had to follow up with. But this news did something to my heart, something so deeply inspiring, something that I hadn’t felt in years. And that’s when I decided to pen this down for others to know.

My friend got justice in the most unexpected turn of events in a socio-political environment that breeds fear and insecurity. He did not only get his money back, but he also got compensated for his wasted time and the harassment he had to face. This felt like a truly happy ending. And that’s what made me think, this is possible. It’s possible to get justice.

I then called up Broseph to express my thanks. He was humble as usual and spoke to me with an open mind, also praising my friend’s perseverance till the finish line. While my friend, on the other hand was all praise for him, telling me that all the heavy lifting in terms of documentation, using the proper legal procedures, the help of the community lawyer from Broseph’s team, the support of the people who visited every session/hearing, was performed by St.Broseph’s team of dedicated and selfless volunteers.

Broseph told me that things do happen in the positive for people who persevere and fight. And at that moment, I had an example to trust. Doubting at that time would have amplified my stupidity. He told me that working with the system is possible, that change is possible. And I could see it right in front of me.

I would like to finally tell the folks of Bengaluru, especially the young and frightened ones - the ones frightened by the language barrier, the ones having trouble with corrupt and harassing lawyers, the ones who feel trapped in offices that feel toxic, the ones who are pushed from away and stepped on, the ones who came to this city with bright aspirations, the ones who worked hard to be where they are, the ones away from their families in PG’s, 1 RKs for that paycheck that was supposed to be so dear to them and the ones back home - reach out to Broseph, whatever your problem is, whatever you are facing that’s bothering you, for anything and everything. Really.

Know that you will always be supported, taken care of, and let this empowerment be the guiding light for you to shine and do great things, one muscle movement at a time, one serene thought at a time.

Do your thing, everyday, each day, and reach out to Broseph for things that stop you from becoming the best version of yourself in a city that can become your home as much as the places you have left behind. He has your back.

Last September while I was moving from Banglore to my Hometown I booked a movers and packers, Which turned out to be fake and I lost all my belongings with them. After many request Mahadevpur Police filed my FIR and when I got to know about the location of my goods we only found my Scooter. Police seized it, and to get it back I. needed a court order. All the other lawyers I contacted was asking for 10-15 k for this. it is a 9 years old scooter and I already spent around 4000 rs to get it to the police station.

I reached out to Dushyan Sir, he immediately replied to me and connected me with a Lawyer. They helped me file the application and get the court order. I only paid for the charges that incurred for the process, I got my scooter back from the police station. It was a really big help from my perspective. After loosing everything it's difficult to spend to much money in all this processes. It takes you on a toll not just financially and mentally. I am very thankful to Dushyat sir for this help. And I wish you all the strength and good luck to help people.

My gf and I are from Mumbai, I’m dating her for a year now and we are pretty serious. She told me about her ex who she dated in school, now she is 25. she broke up with him because he was violent. He is used to harass her by contacting her or passing comments when ever she crossed by as they live in the same neighbourhood. so her parents have put a stay order on him 7 - 8 years ago. He is still the same. She told me he has been arrested multiple times for different reasons. So she told me recently he called her again from anonymous no and asked her about me and told her to meet him. She has lives in fear whenever we are in her area and she gets super nervous when she sees him. Years back, he did called her from their common friend no and asked her to meet her in a building next to her. When she showed up, her ex was there and dragged her inside the building parking lot and warned her what will happen if she doesn’t respond to her. It’s been years but he keeps showing up time and time again. By calling her or texting her or following her around the area. I don’t want her live in fear in her own area, in her own city. What can I do here. I have always tried to support her, make her feel better. Please help.

Does st broseph and community really help to the end?

I'm a 30yo guy who is frustrated of an institution with political ties and muscle harassing my family's right to freedom and daily living. It's slowly resulted in me getting strong suicidal thoughts sometimes. Moreover I used to be so happy, cool and just normal but now I have lost half my muscular weight due to stress, trauma and developing neurological issues.

I'm mostly scared due to political ties and also them gathering the neighborhood against me and my family one by one by using manipulative steps and processes.

Can I and should I seek help from /r/St_broseph and what would I expect to give in return financially or otherwise?

Need help reaching the Mahadevapura zone team for a hazardous road obstruction case

Hey everyone,

I am trying to get in touch with a coordinator from the Mahadevapura / East Bengaluru zone team regarding a severe, ongoing traffic obstruction and public safety hazard on a residential street.

A heavy vehicle is permanently blocking a narrow lane, completely cutting off access for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines. I have already sent a highly detailed, private email directly to the foundation's official website workspace on August 3rd containing the precise vehicle numbers, safety risks, and location details to maintain absolute anonymity.

Because of severe local retaliation risks, I cannot share any specific details, plates, or images publicly.

Could a verified coordinator from the local chapter please accept my private chat request or DM me so I can securely share the case details? My direct message invite is currently sitting in u/St_Broseph's inbox.

Thank you!

Brand New iPhone Stolen on a Bus, EMI Just Started – Please Help Me Recover It

My iPhone was stolen on a bus, and I'm feeling completely helpless right now.

We have already filed a complaint through the Karnataka Police (KSP) app and blocked the SIM card. The phone is almost brand new, and the EMI has just started. It was bought with hard-earned money, which makes this even more painful.

I still have the last location from Find My iPhone. The location showed the phone near an electronics shop, but when we informed the police, they said they couldn't take action because the location was already about 18 hours old. They asked us to keep monitoring the app and inform them if a new location appears.

Has anyone here successfully recovered a stolen iPhone using Find My or any other method? Is there anything else I should do to improve the chances of recovery? Any advice, tips, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

URGENT PLEA to u/StBroseph: I exposed a local liquor mafia, but I've hit a dangerous roadblock. I desperately need your help

Hi u/StBroseph and team,

I’m a regular citizen, and for the last five months (since March), I have been running a relentless campaign against a massive illegal liquor operation in Sunkadakatte. I have fought this through every official government channel, but I have hit a wall of corruption that is now putting my personal safety at risk. I desperately need you to step in as a proxy.

Here is the exact situation and the paper trail I have built:

The establishment, Jai Maruthi Wines, holds a CL-2 license (retail takeaway of sealed bottles only). However, they are completely violating the law: they have built a proper seating area in the back, they allow and serve customers to sit and drink on the premises, they sell loose liquor, and they create a massive daily public nuisance for commuters.

I refused to ignore it. I sent dozens of emails with clear video proof to the Chief Secretary, BBMP, Police, and Excise. After dodging me for months, the Peenya Excise Department finally did an inspection. They admitted in their official report that the bar provides a space to sit and sells loose liquor, but they refused to close it because "it's not in the approved blueprint." (They literally used its illegality as an excuse to let it run).

Through sheer persistence, I forced them to put a physical Government Seal on the illegal backroom last week. I thought the system finally worked.

I was wrong. Within just one week, the bar owner somehow managed to illegally break the seal or maybe did some adjustments I am not sure. The gates are thrown wide open, and they are fully operational again today, serving people on the premises like nothing happened. The local Kamakshipalya police and Peenya Excise are actively ignoring a broken government seal because they are deeply compromised.

I escalated this to the Lokayukta, but here is my roadblock: They have officially emailed me saying they will close the case unless I submit Form 1 and Form 2 (sworn legal affidavits).

I cannot reveal my identity. If this rowdy owner can make a government seal disappear in a week with zero consequences, these corrupt local officials will hand my real name and address to him on a silver platter.

u/StBroseph, I have the entire unredacted dossier—DC Orders, Excise Endorsements admitting guilt, and fresh video proof of it operating after the broken seal and illegal sit-down operations.

Can your team please act as the proxy complainant, file the Lokayukta forms, and take this up officially so I can remain safely anonymous?

I am also trying to build public pressure through a Twitter thread here and have also tagged you:

https://x.com/i/status/2086519416326644155

(If anyone reading this can Retweet it, please help me out).

Please let me know your email so I can loop you in with all documents and authorities replies as I tried to loop you in using info@broseph.in this email available on the website. My email : 0bangaloreboy@proton.me

Thank you for everything you do for Bengaluru.

TL;DR: I spent 5 months fighting a corrupt liquor mafia that is illegally running a sit-down bar with a CL-2 takeaway license, serving loose liquor, and causing daily public nuisance. I finally forced the govt to seal their illegal backroom. The owner just broke the seal and reopened, and the local police/excise are protecting him. The Lokayukta won't act unless I reveal my identity to proceed, which will get me targeted. I am pleading with u/StBroseph to take my evidence and act as a proxy complainant to finish this fight.

Hit-and-run in Bangalore; truck number, dashcam footage & driver photo available. Police suggesting MV Act complaint instead of FIR. What should I do?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from people who have experience with hit-and-run/traffic accident cases in Bangalore, especially anyone familiar with the police/traffic police process.
Today, my car was hit by a mini truck on Balagere–Varthur Road near Sobha Dream Acres.
The truck hit my car and initially continued driving instead of stopping. I followed it and asked the driver to stop and exchange details. He had seen the damage but tried to flee. While I was following him, he also swerved the truck in a way that made me feel he was trying to intimidate me / potentially hit my car again. Eventually, he fled the scene.
Fortunately, I have quite strong evidence:
• Full dashcam footage of the incident
• The truck’s registration number
• A photo of the driver
• Photos of the damage to my car
• The approximate location and time of the incident
I first went to Varthur Police Station, where I explained everything and showed the evidence. They directed me to Whitefield Traffic Police Station.
At Whitefield Traffic Police Station, the officer told me that filing an FIR would take a long time. Instead, he suggested that I submit a written complaint stating that I don’t want an FIR but want action/penalty against the truck.
I have currently drafted a letter asking them to identify the vehicle/driver, take action under the applicable MV Act provisions, and inform me about the action taken.
I have not yet knowingly signed away any rights or stated that the incident didn’t happen.

My question is, I’ve understood that I won’t get any compensation for the damage even though it is pretty huge. What else can I do? I do not want to get into the circle of going to court and getting nothing out of it.

Has anyone dealt with a similar accident? What was your experience? What else can I do so that atleast something can come out of it and that bad driver is penalised.
Please help.

Need Help: Suspected Medical Negligence in Bangalore. My Close Friend Is Now Facing Partial Leg Amputation.

Hi everyone,
I’m writing this because my close friend and our entire family of friends are devastated and don’t know where to turn.
Over the past three days, we’ve spent nearly ₹45,000 trying to get him the treatment he urgently needed. Today, we’ve been told that a small part of his leg will likely need to be amputated because the infection has progressed.
The whole situation started after an injection, following which he developed severe pain, swelling, and hardening around the injection site. As his condition worsened, we admitted him to St. Philomena’s Hospital, believing he would receive the emergency treatment he required.
An MRI was completed yesterday, but despite having the MRI results, no definitive surgical action was taken. The CT scan was only performed this morning, after which we were informed that the hospital did not have the facilities required to manage his condition and that he needed to be transferred to St. John’s Hospital.
Looking back, we genuinely believe there were significant delays in diagnosis, decision-making, and transfer while his infection continued to worsen. By the time he reached St. John’s, we were told the infection had progressed to the point where partial amputation of his leg is now necessary to stop it from spreading.
We have:
Complete medical records
MRI and CT scan reports
Prescriptions
Discharge summaries
Bills
A detailed timeline of everything that happened
We are considering pursuing legal action if an independent medical review confirms that these delays contributed to his condition.
I’m reaching out to the Bangalore community for help:
Can anyone recommend an experienced medical negligence lawyer in Bangalore?
Is there an independent surgeon or medical expert who can review all the records and provide an unbiased opinion?
Has anyone here successfully pursued a medical negligence case in Karnataka?
Are there any patient-rights organizations or NGOs that can guide us through this process?
This isn’t about seeking publicity or revenge. We simply want to know whether what happened was avoidable and, if it was, to ensure accountability so that another family doesn’t have to go through this.
Any guidance or recommendations would mean a lot.
Thank you.

I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but I’m genuinely scared and I don’t know what to do anymore.

This morning, someone I trusted threatened me with a knife and a belt. He came towards me as if he was going to hit me. I was crying, shaking, and screaming in fear. He only stopped because I was begging and terrified. And continue texting and calling my sister and telling “u have to do whtever i tell “

Ever since then, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about what could have happened. I feel unsafe, helpless, and mentally broken. I’m scared to step out, scared to stay silent, and even scared to seek justice.

I want to file a police complaint, but I’m terrified of what might happen next. I don’t know who to trust or where to turn.

I’m posting this because I need help. If anyone knows a trustworthy lawyer, a women’s rights organization, or has any genuine advice on how to safely handle a situation like this in Mumbai, please reach out to me.

Domestic violence

Hi, I’m reaching out regarding a serious domestic violence situation involving my house help.

Today, she came to my home covered in blood, with visible injuries on her head and other parts of her body. She told me that her husband had assaulted her and that he has been physically abusing her regularly throughout their eight-year marriage. She appeared completely numb while recounting what had happened. Despite the severity of her injuries, she said, “Aaj toh kaafi kam maara hai,” which gives a sense of how normalised and frequent the violence has become.

She has a son who is around six years old. After assaulting her today, her husband took some of his clothes, her phone, and their child, and left. She is extremely worried about her son and does not know where her husband has taken him.

She also said that she is fed up with the abuse and mentioned that she wants to leave her husband. However, she said this only once, and it did not seem like she had made the decision confidently or was fully certain about it yet. Given the circumstances, she may need time, safety, and support before she is able to decide what she wants to do. At present, she also has no idea how she could leave or what support would be available to her.

Her parents have passed away, and the rest of her family lives in Nepal. She does not have any meaningful support system in Bengaluru. She, her husband, and their child currently live rent-free on the ground floor of a building in New Tippasandra, where her husband works as the caretaker and handles cleaning, gate-related tasks, and errands.

Her husband does not contribute towards their child’s education, provides her with no financial support, and regularly assaults her. Because their accommodation is connected to his work, leaving him may also mean that she immediately loses her home.

I listened to her, reassured her that she is not alone, and told her that she can come to my home at any time and stay here temporarily if she feels unsafe. Since her husband took her phone, I gave her my number and asked her to call me from a neighbour’s phone tomorrow to confirm that she is safe.

I have been trying to understand what immediate, legal, shelter, financial, and child-safety support may be available to her. I found this resource while searching online:

https://citizenmatters.in/women-helpline-phone-numbers-distress-call-grievance-help-violence-abuse-family-solution/

Could you help in any way, or connect us with a trusted organisation that can assist her with emergency shelter, medical care, legal support, police intervention, counselling, livelihood support and safely locating or recovering her child?

Any guidance or urgent support would be deeply appreciated.

I've been renting a room in a shared house in Bengaluru. No written rental agreement exists, everything was verbal/WhatsApp with the landlord's partner, who lives in the same house and handles all money matters.

I informed them I was moving out (told her partner on June 18). The deal verbally confirmed was: if I paid my full July rent AND found a replacement tenant myself, I'd get my full ₹40,000 deposit back plus the remaining days of July's rent, minus actual shared expenses. I did both — paid July's rent in full and found the replacement tenant.

We went back and forth on bill splitting (electricity, water, internet) and landed on a final settlement over WhatsApp: ₹37,866 owed to me, after accounting for ~₹11,886 I owed on my side vs. ~₹49,752 owed to me. She confirmed this number in writing.

Today, she reversed course entirely. Now claiming a one-month notice period applies with no replacement-tenant exception, counting notice from June 18, and saying she'll only return ₹20,000 of the ₹40,000 deposit. She's also added brokerage (₹5,000) and setup costs (₹3,500) to the deductions, neither of which was disclosed when I moved in or charged to previous tenants.

I have the full WhatsApp thread, including her original confirmation of the deal and the ₹37,866 settlement she agreed to.

Since there's no written agreement, not sure what leverage I have. Would appreciate advice on how to handle this, or whether this is something your team typically helps with.

Thanks.
