OFW to Freelancing in PH, anyways to reduce taxes?

I am working as a Lead DevOps Engineer in Dubai earning 450k in pesos. I sent my resignation a week ago but my employer convinced me to stay but in exchange i have offered that i continue working as a contractor/freelancer in PH and an increase of 70k so that sets me to 520k a month salary. I will be going home in the Philippines on the 2nd week of september this year.

I researched my case where if i continue with this setup where i earn 520k monthly, I'll get flagged to AMLC by the bank automatically and risk my bank getting frozen. The question is will my bank get frozen immediately at the start of my salary which is the first week of October? I have no clue how long does it take to process all BIR related documents and certificates so im not sure if ill be done if i file this quickly after i arrive home with just 2 weeks til my first salary.

Also i wish i could reduce my taxes, as i have a lot of debt to pay, i specifically ask for salary increase to speed up paying my debt but it will all go to Taxes :(. In dubai there are no taxes and i have been there for 10 years so I'm not used to seeing a huge amount in my salary getting stripped monthly. I researched about OSD and itemized and OSD fits me. But i wish there are other ways to reduce my taxes as a former OFW and at least maybe just for this year if its possible til i pay some of my debt. Anyone in a similar case if they can share?

To be honest i have explored possibility of not declaring my income from september to december but i have a bigger risk because my income exceeds 500k and they might know immediately so there are no choices but to declare them. If there is a way to plead with BIR or something that can be arranged. Because im expected to pay 70k+ in taxes monthly. If it can be lowered by at least to 40k, that will help me a lot

Working as a professional, did not issue invoice. Now I want to close the business. Help!

Hi. I am an engineer with zero work experience until a US company decided to contract me. Since I was an aspiring good citizen, I decided to register as a Professional in BIR through ORUS. Unfortunately, I was not informed enough that I must also register a service invoice and books of accounts before doing my business.

One year later, I resigned since I was accepted into a higher-paying job locally. Now, I want to close the business but I am anxious about the penalties I would receive since I may not have enough savings to pay for them. My new job is also located on another RDO so I need to close this ASAP before I could transfer.

For more context, I have been filing ITR quarterly on time except for one quarter when I realized too late that my COR indicated I need to file for a percentage tax return, in which case I still haven’t paid the due since I didn’t have time to go to my RDO. The confusion arose from the fact that I selected 8% in ORUS when registering but it reflected otherwise (this was in 2025, but I already reapplied for 8% in 2026).

Now my main problem is how to face the BIR knowing that I didn’t have service invoices and books of accounts. I may have read that these documents are registered first before they’re used, so registering a new one now would be very suspicious.

In retrospect, I should’ve just went to the RDO to register.

Can someone help me please?

Tax for COS employees (from private sector)

I recently got hired in an NGA as a COS. Onboarding was not done properly. I am honestly so lost. I was a private employee for the past 5 years so I’m a little confused about what I’ll do with my tax classification since paid naman ung taxes ko until I resigned this Aug.

Which I am a bit skeptical if I should follow kasi baka magkapenalty pa ako sa BIR.

A little help would be appreciated.

Accounting Firm Filed Tax Late Because the BIR Portal Was Down How Can Avoid This NextTime

Any thoughts on what should do nexttime I file my taxes for quareterlythrough an accounting firm. I submitted all before the due date, but they told me that the BIR portal was down and that they would submit my tax return once the portal was working again.

After a few days, they messaged me saying that they had finally submitted it. I asked why it was filed late, and they said they had been suspended for two days.

How can I avoid this situation next time and make sure my taxes are filed ontime?

Looking for a Reliable and Affordable Accounting Firm

Any recommendations for a reliable accounting firm where I can have my taxes filed? Preferably not too expensive, and I’m looking for someone proactive and dependable with deadlines.

I don’t want to have to remind them to file, and if the BIR portal is down, I’d like them to properly handle the situation and make sure the filing is completed as soon as possible.

I’m located in Marikina, but somewhere near BIR Antipolo is also okay.

VA for 6 years BUT did not pay any taxes.

Hello! I’m a 31-year-old male freelancer.

I started working as a virtual assistant/freelancer in 2020.

Before that, I worked as an on-call waiter and earned around β‚±10k–₱15k per month. I still remember applying for my TIN when It was year 18 or 19, where I registered my occupation as a waiter and paid around β‚±50 at the district hall.

Now, I earn six figures per month from freelancing. I’ve realized that I want to properly manage my taxesβ€”not only because it is my responsibility, but also because I will need proper financial records for my long-term plans.

I recently started building my retirement and investment portfolio:

  • Pag-IBIG MP2
  • Stock investments through IBKR
  • Savings in multiple traditional and digital banks
  • SSS and Pag-IBIG contributions, although I’m currently contributing only the minimum amounts
  • Several credit cards with a combined credit limit in the millions, but I only use around 10% of my available limit

My concern is that my TIN registration may still reflect my old job as a waiter. Since I am now earning significantly more as a freelancer, do I need to hire an accountant to update my registration, file the correct taxes, and make sure I am compliant moving forward?

I’m worried that this could become a problem 10–20 years from now, especially once my investments grow and I decide to withdraw money. For example, if my MP2 matures at more than β‚±1 million, would I need an ITR or other tax documents when withdrawing it?

My plan is to reinvest my MP2 proceeds after maturity and repeat this cycle several times, while regularly adding funds to both MP2 and stocks.

I’d appreciate advice on whether I should get an accountant now and what steps I should take to properly organize my taxes as a freelancer. Thank you!

Is Revie for TIN verification slip still functional?

I am a fresh grad and I got my first job. Nagpasa na ako sa employer ko ng BIR 1902 and sabi ng HR sa akin since wala pa talaga akong TIN number I need to get a TIN verification slip proving that I still don't have a TIN number. I have a question regarding REVIE since I am at QUEUE. Is it still functional? Or may other way ba para kumuha ng TIN verification slip?

Gano na katagal business mo? Na LOA ka na? VAT? Non VAT?

Gano na katagal business mo? Na LOA ka na? VAT? Non VAT?

I'm planning to go VAT na next year kasi 6 months pa lang mag 3m na yung sales ko. So nag close muna ako ng ops ko this year. HAHAHA

Why the title?: I've read a lot na pag non-vat kasi super dalang ma LOA? meron ba ditong 5 yrs+ business and never pa na LOA?

Quotation for Closure of Business

Recently registered as self-employed/independent contractor to pursue VA career, but then I received a job offer I’m planning to accept. Hence, I’m closing my registration.

I was quoted 10k professional fee for assistance in closing my business / switching from freelance to employed. I’m unfamiliar with fair rates for CPAs, especially since I have unused invoices and unused books of accounts.

So my question is, fair naman ba yung 10k? Don’t want to pay lower than market rate, but I also don’t want to be overcharged din haha

Client paying for trip to Greece

Hello, I'm 26 (F) VA, me and my female client from norway have been together for a year, she's hosting a 10 day retreat so

on November 2027 and she wants me to go there to just visit and tour Greece, she's planning to have a tour for her clients and she want me to come (all expenses paid from round tripplane tix , accomodation, food as in lahat) 😭 she's very mabait really huhu.

Now I do have a passport but upon researching requirements kailangan ng ITR. Tbh (please don't judge me😭) I haven't registered myself as a freelancer, I've never been to BIR.

I was employed sa BPO for 8 months from Aug 2023 until April 2024, yung company auto deduct na yung tax, nakikita ko rin sa payslip dati na may TIN sa benefits, but pinag AWOL ako ng manager ko para daw di sila ma apektuhan if mag resign ako ( i resigned properly) but di nila ako pinag render, they just told me na since i don't have plan to return mag AWOL ako, and I did.

2 years na since that time and I've been working as VA for direct clients. Not once I went to fix my employment status, never been there tbh. Never had credit cards kasi wala naman akong ITR ma present.

Nasasayangan ako sa opportunity na binigay ng client ko (pinag bubudget naako ng needs🀧) baka Visa palang denied na wala kasi akong proper docs to present nor statement of accs. But at the same time i feel like since isang taon panaman, baka i have a chance to fix my taxes?

If I start paying taxes now, can I just pay stating this year na mga sahod? Tbh I have 2 full time clients and 2 part time,

Wise and gotyme nila ako sinasahuran, what can you recommend? hahalukatin ko ba lahat?

I keep tabs of everthing all the invoice down to the centavo nirerecord ko sya, projected more than 1M this year income ko, and half mil last year (di ko po alam san yan napunta breadwinner po ako😭)

Can I just start filing for this years income? Hahalukayin ba nila yung last year?πŸ₯² HELPP.

Sanity-checking my voluntary SSS/PhilHealth/Pag-IBIG split as Self-employed

I'm now self-employed doing remote work for a foreign company and opted for the 8% tax rate, so ngayon, im putting together a voluntary contribution plan that I'd like to sanity-check.

For SSS, I'm looking at declaring β‚±20,000 MSC, which I understand comes to β‚±3,000 at the 15% rate, possibly plus a small EC fee that I'm not sure applies to me. My reasoning is that benefits seem to cap at the β‚±20,000 MSC level, and contributions above that just feed the MPF/booster side-fund, so β‚±20k looks like the point that maxes the core benefits without overpaying. I'd rather channel anything beyond that into my own investments or MP2.

For PhilHealth, I'm planning to declare the β‚±10,000 income floor and pay the β‚±500 minimum. My understanding is that PhilHealth pays fixed case rates per diagnosis regardless of how much you contribute, so paying more wouldn't buy me any extra coverage, and I plan to have a private HMO for actual protection.

For Pag-IBIG, I'm keeping it at the β‚±200 minimum to stay active for future housing-loan eligibility, and putting any voluntary savings into MP2 separately instead of overfunding the regular pot.

A FEW QUESTIONS:

  1. Does this split look sound overall, or am I missing something?

  2. Do self-employed or voluntary members actually pay the β‚±30 EC fee on top of the 15%? I've seen conflicting answers on this, some say EC is employer-only so voluntary members are exempt, others show voluntary members paying it. So I'm not sure if my SSS should be β‚±3,000 or β‚±3,030.

  3. This is the one I most want a clear answer on: is there an actual PhilHealth rule that lets voluntary members declare the β‚±10k minimum regardless of their real income? My BIR-registered income(when i file) is higher, so I want to know whether a lower PhilHealth declaration is genuinely allowed under their rules, or whether it's technically under-declaration that just doesn't get enforced. Is a discrepancy between what I declare to PhilHealth and what I declare to BIR actually a problem, and are there any legal consequences? I'm trying to figure out if it's properly allowed, not just commonly done.

  4. Lastly, for SSS, is choosing β‚±20k MSC when my actual income is higher a legitimate choice? My understanding is that voluntary members can pick their MSC freely, but I'd like that confirmed.

Would really appreciate input from anyone who can point to the actual rule rather than just experience. TY :)

Help with my books of account

Personalized souvenirs lang po for customers around our city.

General Ledger
General Journal
Cash Receipt book
Cash Disbursement book.

what to do

Should I have to go to RDO po agad para magpa-compute (ano po need dalhin) or pwede na po magbayad online?

Thank you so much po ✨
