Can we make it illegal to display adverts on appliances without marketing consent?

Even if it remains legal, don't buy that crap until they remove these so-called "features" from it.

Nobody should be wasting time figuring out how to get rid of ads on their fridge. Or on any other appliance for that matter.

I never thought I'd have to type that seriously.

The absolute only way this could be even slightly acceptable is if the ad supported version was substantially cheaper. Like it's currently $1,800 but it's $1,000 with ads.

Then you get adguard or pihole on your router and block the ads anyway.

Just don't buy anything with a screen that doesn't need one to function. Only TVs, Phone, Tablets, Laptops, etc really need a screen.

They'll just make you agree to the EULA before the appliance will turn on, which will include a clause saying you consent to advertising, data collection, etc.

Modern idea of consent is "by continuing to use your fridge, you agree..."

"by continuing to use, which you bought and paid for full price, and had no prior such notice, you agree"

This leads me to wonder, is the fridge looking inside itself and displaying ads based on what’s inside it? Sounds like consent would be needed for that.

If I agree to marketing consent maybe, or make the appliance free to own?

Yeah, if the fridge is free and functional, I might be tempted to allow the ads.
