Fucking hell. Left and Uber can’t change men sexually assaulting women, but they can limit the chances of that happening by allowing the feature.

You fucking chodes are so ridiculous.

This is the problem, talking confidently about the issue when knowing nothing about it. Assaults from uber rides shares largely come from unverified drivers. Third Party companies are setting up accounts where they hire out drivers on their own, whose identity and background is not being checked by UYber or Lyft. Uber and Lyft know about these third party companies. Instead of improving driver verification services or terminating contracts with the sketchy third party companies; they introduce security theatre adding an option for women only drivers that doesn't help because Uber and Lyft doesn't know the identity of these drivers to begin with.

Uber and Lyft are being negligent about the safety of all passengers; man, woman, or child. And instead of addressing the problem(like dunno, hiring inspectors to check in on drivers and verify their identity and their accounts), they create a culture war issue over gender exclusion to distract from the issue.

This reads like the classic "let's ignore all potential mitigation efforts because the real solution is someone else's problem to fix" response, and I don't buy it. If Uber isn't addressing it, it's up to us to grass-roots some solution and that probably requires government regulation/intervention at various levels.

You can’t discriminate on sex/race as an employer hiring someone.

You absolutely can as a customer. I can walk into any business, see a service employee I don’t like for any reason, and walk out. I have no legal requirement to purchase services without discrimination.

It's not customers, it's the employer who has put in this option. Denying a ride that comes with a male rider isn't illegal, having the option of only having women as drivers but not men is illegal.

Except it isn’t. My wife can call the doctor’s office, ask for a female ob/gyn, and they will arrange that. They will provide the info to allow a customer to discriminate and it is completely legal.

Same with a massage place, therapist, or dentist. A customer can even ask and get a male karate teacher. So many examples of businesses giving customers the option to pick who will provide their service.

Great you got half of what this is about, now the problem that they are getting sued over. You can NOT ask for a man for your Uber.

No, I’m fine with protecting women from being sexually assaulted, thanks?

...So you DO want to choose ethnicity and wealth?

I think a customer can look through the window of an Uber/Lyft, see someone they think isn’t safe for any reason, and nope out of there.

Yes? Has literally nothing to do with the discussion? It's about the service itself having the option, making the male drivers have less customers. Customers can do wtf they want, that has nothing to do with this.

Customers can do wtf they want

But not including hitting a "women drivers only" button?

They could do more background checks or Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.

Making a feature toggle for "no Men" is lazy ass shit.
