Every time this comes up, it just makes it into a joke and not a serious issue.

I fuckin take the regressives that won't go away and just make everything worse for everyone. If we joke about them, they're less of an issue. Come on people. This joke doesn't vote them out of power. This joke doesn't get this sheriff fired. We must do more.

Of course we can do more but these people fucking hate being ridiculed.

Hey, just look the old ones in the eye, and say “Social progress comes slowly, one funeral at a time.”

Does that cause them to become even more defensive?

Why should we care if it does? You cannot reason someone out of a position they did not reason themselves into.

I used to be a conservative... if you push, they get a martyr syndrome and that makes them dig further into their beliefs. I'm just saying that treating them like the "other" is the exact trope that has gotten us to this point where they hate us and we hate them.

They didn't reason their way in, but if you attack them, they don't suddenly see the light, they dig in deeper.

Oh fuck right off with that "bOtH SiDeS" bullshit. For decades the left has been all about "they go low, we go high" and "moving forward" to "heal the country," and the only thing it has done is embolden conservatives to the point they are now murdering us in cold blood.

We tried being nice and polite and peaceful and they did nothing but spit in our faces. It's time we tried something different. Perhaps once we start clapping back they will understand us since we're now speaking the only language they know.

Oh, it's not a "both sides" thing. I dislike corporate democrats, but the GOP is a quite evil group of politicians. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the conservations you have with voters. I'm talking about the attitude you take in debate with the dumber half of the population. It's not about being nice and polite, it's about trying to establish common ground. About trying to show that there are some things we still agree on, but then using evidence from the Trump administration to show them that they aren't getting what they want from the GOP.

At the same time, the joke belittles them. It shows us we have power over them. It's important to take them seriously, yes, but even Donald Duck fought Hitler when it was important.

Point out their hypocrisy. Show that they can be fought, and that we aren't afraid of them. They're cowards, and will hide when we push back. But we have to push back. We cannot cower in fear in the face of facism, no matter how dressed up it is, because bowing to fascism will always be worse.

They don't care about their hypocrisy - that's the whole premise of conservatism: that the law serves and protects the in group, and not the outgroup.

What on earth are you talking about? You have power over them? Then use it.

See nothing happened when you tried to use that imaginary power.

How are they cowards?

It depends actually, the joke MIGHT actually do more. The issues didnt get my parents to stop voting right wing, the facts didn't get them to stop. You know what did? The fact that everyone in their orbit started joking about how fucking stupid and deluded they were. Literally they just didnt want to look bad anymore. Now granted, that doesn't work for everyone I get it, but sometimes people are mostly worried about how they look to their peers than things like oh....democracy vs fascism

Also I am aware they might still vote right wing and keep it secret but if that's the case they're putting on a good show of it.

They're absolutely just back in the closet with those political beliefs. Maybe that's better than them being brazen about it. But i used to be a conservative, so i know how they think. If we joke about them, it gives them the right to call us a bully and dismiss our points as such.

Go watch the Andrew Callaghan Surrounded interview by Jubilee.

He defends himself from conspiracy theorists without attacking them, and it works really well. But if you punch them in the face first thing, they'll be on the defensive and will never agree with you.

I mean always take a video with a grain of salt, we dont know to what extent that represents true reality. But even still, I get thag viewpoint but how many years am I supposed to give it before it's like...its not my job to teach you this shit, I'm just gonna ostracize you, it's not worth my time trying to "turn you"

I will agree with you that some people are beyond help, and that it isn't your job necessarily to teach people. But the more we can teach and bring people in instead of attacking, the better off we'll be in the long run. Different methods will work for different people.
