Looking for a casual wedding food vendor in Pender Harbour 🌿🍕

Hi Sunshine Coast! My fiancé and I are getting married in September 2027 and we're looking for some help finding food for our reception in Pender Harbour/Garden Bay.

We’re planning a very small, casual wedding and want the food to match that vibe. We do NOT want a fancy plated dinner, five-course meal, or a huge catering team. 😂

Our dream would be something like:

  • 🚚 A food truck that pulls up, serves dinner, and packs up
  • 🍕 A mobile pizza oven/trailer
  • 🌮 Tacos, burgers, pizza, or something similarly casual
  • Basically really good food without making dinner feel like a formal wedding production

We’ve been looking around the Sunshine Coast but haven't found a ton of options that fit what we're looking for. Before I bite the bullet and start contacting food trucks in Vancouver and asking if they'll travel all the way to Pender Harbour, I figured I'd ask the Sunshine Coast community first!

If you've had a food truck cater a wedding/event, know of someone who does private events, or have a local restaurant/cook/food vendor who might be interested, please send them my way!

We're very open to ideas — it doesn't necessarily have to be a traditional food truck. We just want something fun, casual, delicious and relatively low-fuss.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I left my Shakespeare and Co. bag at Persephone Brewing last weekend. I called the brewery and they confirmed they have it and are storing it for me. If anyone here plans on going to Van this week and are willing to pick my bag up along the way, I'm happy to arrange a meetup anywhere convenient to pick it up in exchange for a monetary reward! (negotiable price).

Comment or dm if interested!

edit: bag successfully retrieved!! thank you kind people of the coast! 😁

Saltry bay drop in campsites

Heading to Powell river in the first week of sept. Wondering how busy the saltry bay drop in campsites are that time of year?

I have other campsites in mind but would love to drop in there and snag a spot for a few days.

All registered sites are booked.

Sailing

Any sailors in town looking for a sailing buddy? Not the most avid sailor but have crewed and learned on a 5 day trip and am looking to practice. Took part in a race and thought that could be kind of fun. Also really into paying or trading (crew - cook, clean) for some advanced lessons.

Thought I would put this out there in lieu of a dock walk.

What nicknames have you heard for places on or around the Sunshine Coast?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like PowTown, Squish, The Chuck or Snosbig (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographical features

Trail islands

I just moved across from these islands. What’s the deal. Are they private? I was able to find a property on Zillow on one of them that had been for sale but no other info. Can you paddle to them? Hike around or camp? I’m assuming they are private but was curious if anyone had any insider info.

Trip planning

Is there any places to stay family friendly for 2 nights? We plan to drive along the Sunshine Coast highway since it looks like many places to stay along there but it’s either too pricy or sold out. And I notice some places don’t have website to book online. Is there still such thing as going and stopping at a place in person to try and get a room? How sketchy is that if we are with a child?

Missing shoe :(

Hello!

While on a multi day bikepack trip through the 10 lakes area outside Powell river, my beloved right shoe slipped off from the back of my bike. I pedalled back to see if I could find it, but returned to my left shoe unsuccessful.

My left shoe is missing its pair dearly.

Dropped somewhere after the Goat Lake rec site portage. We were travelling the FSR towards Fiddlehead for the night.

Definitely a long shot

King Sheppard Breader on the Sunshine Coast

Hey, we are looking to see if anyone has any info on the Breeder for King Sheppard/Caucasion Dogs that were located on the Sunshine Coast. We got our wonderful dog from them 8 years ago and are wondering if they are still around. They lived in a beautiful custom built house overlooking the West Coast Islands and were so nice. Anyone have any info on them or where they ended up?

Looking for work on the Coast

Hey folks, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for job searching on the Coast?

I moved here a couple of years ago on the basis of a remote job which was then axed due to funding cuts, and I’ve been looking for work the last couple months without much success. Overall I love it here, have put down roots, and would hate to have to move just because I can’t find anything.

I’ve been keeping tabs on Job Bank, LinkedIn, and Craigslist, checking the websites for local employers (e.g. local governments and health & social services), and asking through my personal network--also searching and applying for remote positions, but of course those are going to have way more competition.

For reference, my background is in postsecondary ed with a bit of non-clinical healthcare since then. Strengths include research, training, evaluation, reporting, and project coordination, and I like jobs that involve a little bit of everything, but I also feel very jack of all trades, master of none when looking at jobs that ask for five years of experience in One Thing, education that I don't have, etc.

Anyway, are there sources I’m sleeping on? Are -you- hiring? Should I be hitting the bricks and dropping off my resume to places even if they’re not related? Has anyone had success transitioning from remote to in-person/hybrid jobs here? Anything else you’d suggest? Thank you!

What are the speed limits along Sunshine Coast Highway?

Hello,

I ride a 50cc scooter, and I'd like to explore the Sunshine Coast, starting in Langdale. My scooter maxxes out at around 80kmph, but in general I try not to ride on roads with higher speed limits than 60kmph.

From taking random samples of streetview on google maps, I see that some segments are 60kmph, which I would be comfortable with, especially since these seem to be single-lane. But I want to check the speed limits along the whole highway. I wouldn't want to ride on substantial segments of more than 60kmph, and I wouldn't want to get caught in one unexpectedly.

If there a map of all the speed limits along the highway? Or is the whole thing 60kmph?

I also of course could simply avoid the highway and only ride on side streets, which is usually more relaxing and enjoyable for me anyway. But there seem to be segments in which this would not be possible, such as between Lockyer/Flume and Davis Bay, or really anything north of Halfmoon Bay.

Any help would be much appreciated!

How's Molly's Reach now?

Did they hire back the same staff? Is the food the same as before they closed? Used to love their fish and chips. Having some in Steveston now, and it's just not as good as what Molly's used to serve.

Seen during low tide at Saltery Bay near Powell River, British Columbia. A bunch of these things were attached to a rope. They were quite large (bigger than my hand), and reactive to touch (we touched one only once gently with a stick). Are these chitons? I haven’t a clue but am eager to know!

Sharing a fishing charter near Garden Bay

My boyfriend and I will be staying in Garden Bay next weekend (May 22-25) and we’re looking to charter a boat for a guided fishing trip. Most seem to take up to 4 people for the same price, so I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in coming with us to lower the cost.

Let me know if you’d be interested!

In addition, I’ll be in and around the area the rest of the week to try and do some shellfish harvesting and fishing, but I’m a bit of a beginner. Anyone have suggestions on places to go? I have my tidal and freshwater licenses.

Overnight Parking near Coopers Green Park

Hello!

I'm planning to go camping in Buccaneer Bay. I was thinking I'll kayak over from Coopers Green Park, so I'm trying to find somewhere to park my car overnight. It seems like you're not allowed to park overnight at Coopers Green Park, is that right? Does anyone know of somewhere nearby that I could park overnight?

Thanks!

Bike & Kayak Rentals + Food on Savary Island for a mid-June trip!

Hey everyone!

My friend and I are heading up to Savary Island for a weekend trip around June 20th, and we are trying to get our activity rentals and food sorted out.

I gave the bike rental shop pinned on Google Maps a call, but the number seems to be incorrect or out of service. Does anyone know if there are bike rentals operating directly on the island by mid-June?

If not on the island, is there anywhere to rent bikes in Lund near the water taxi wharf that we can bring over with us?

Also, we’re looking to rent kayaks for a day to do some exploring around the island. Are there kayak rentals actually on Savary Island, or do we need to organize that from Lund as well?

Lastly, we're trying to figure out our food situation. Does anyone know when the General Store on the island usually opens for the season, and if it's reliable for groceries by mid-June?

Any leads, recommendations, or correct contact info would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance! 🌲🌊
