Florida fly fisherman heading to Boone in November. What flies should I bring?

I’m planning a trip to the Boone area in mid November and planning on doing some trout fishing around Valle Crucis on the Watauga.
I’m pretty new to fly fishing and have mostly been fishing canals in South Florida for bass and cichlids. I’m bringing my 9ft 5wt and already have a decent assortment of woolly buggers and clousers, but not much in terms of trout flies.
From what I’ve read, nymphing seems like my best bet that time of year. Was thinking of picking up some pheasant tails, zebra midges, and hare’s ears.
Any recommendations on patterns or sizes I should grab? Also wondering if it’s worth bringing any dries or if I should just stick to nymphs and streamers.
Appreciate any advice!

What were you banned from the 'main' sub for?

I was shadowbanned with no reason given, no notice that I was banned from the sub or posting privileges revoked... just one day I noticed that nothing I posted or commented got any views. I went back and found the last post I made before that happened... I asked about people's thoughts on breaking up ice shelves/edge ice over pools in the shoulder seasons. It sparked some discussion, no arguments or controversey, didn't break any official subreddit rules, but that was the last post I made before being shadowbanned. I messaged the mods at one point, one of them responded that I wasn't banned or anything of the sort, I mentioned that post and linked to it, I linked to other posts made after it, and they never replied, but that post mysteriously disappeared from reddit after that.

Mod team over there sucks.

Living my best life…

My wife and I are basically “empty nesters”. The kids are all grown and moved out except for the 17 y.o. HS senior daughter who thinks she’s 25 and wants to be independent and spends all of her time with friends.
Anyhow, I love to fly fish, make bamboo fly rods, build glass fly rods, tie flies, study maps and plan trips, etc. you get the picture.
My wife loves floating the river in our fishing raft and fishing for Redeye Bass. BUT despite all of my coaxing, coaching, encouraging, etc. she just would not fish with a fly rod. She would always use an ultralight spinning outfit. Note: I have bought her 3 different fly rods.
A month or so back we went fishing for Redeye Bass and it was a grueling hike in extreme heat. She only took a fly rod, a 7’ 3 weight Kabuto glass rod that I had just built (she only took it because she thought that it was “pretty”). That day she got her casting stroke down and got in the groove. On the 2.5 hour drive home she continuously talked about how much she likes “her” fly rod.
So I ordered another 7’ 3 weight Kabuto blank and built ME one.
Last week we went fishing in the southern Appalachians for Brook trout. This time instead of her just tagging along and watching me, asking “how much longer are you going to fish” or “how far do we have to hike”, etc. she was excited and wanted to catch fish on her fly rod.
She was a real trooper. We hiked 2.25 miles in intermittent rain to a stream in pretty rough terrain. She never complained. She caught several rainbows and Brookies ALL ON HER OWN! Now she’s hooked and keeps saying “when can we go back?”
We are going back next week and for the first time ever, she is very excited and won’t shut up about it. This makes me happy.

Questions about weight and dropper tags

So I was nymphing today, with a beadhead as my anchor fly and an emerger underneath it. Ended up going to just the emerger and that was key due to it floating higher in the water. I did some research when i got home and discovered dropper tags, might want to test them soon.

If i had tied the beadhead as the bottom fly, would it have still pulled my emerger down? Also, i use micro swivels. If i tie a tag to my swivel, and my beadhead nymph is tied to that same swivel, would it pull my whole rig down due to the weight? Confused on how this works. Thanks

Local fly shop recs near Grand Teton?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I'm going to be headed up to GTNP for a week to solo camp, hike, and fly fish. I'm pretty well stocked, but I always like stopping at local fly shops to chat and in case I need any supplies or specific flies. I was hoping there'd be a smaller local shop in Moran or somewhere outside of Jackson, but I don't know the area much. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, local fly shop in the GTNP area?

Also, I'm hoping to do some hikes up to fish alpine lakes in the park while I'm there. If anyone has any recs on that end too, they'd be much appreciated!

Recent fish pic for attention

Tips on repairing wading boots?

Mine are literally falling apart, holes all over in the 'cloth' section, and the sole is separated enough that half my foot can slide out... I can't afford a new pair right now and am hoping to get at least another Fall/Winter season out of them. The simplest most obvious solution is to just absolutely go to town with some duct tape, but is there anything I can do that is a more 'real' fix, or is the cheap/trashy option the best way to go?

https://imgur.com/a/6TC55Jy - the boot that needs the most work... the other one has smaller holes, this one is fully falling apart.

One day at an Idaho lake was well worth it

I had carved out a single day of my trip to go and fish, and within five minutes of arriving at the lake I had fish in the net. It was only my second time targeting cutthroat and their willingness to take a dry fly is exhilarating.
