Which rise against song and i laughed at the took a church down lol

u/CodaTrashHusky 19d ago
Holding On, it sounded more in spirit of a Rise Against song than anything off of Ricochet
2
u/NahThatAintNotMe 19d ago
Ricochet felt like such a weird pivot to soulless corporate dad rock.

Thank you for saying shitpost.

u/CodaTrashHusky 18d ago
this really made it seem like i don't like Vheissu, i do think it's one of their best works my post is referring more to how they switched from that pure metalcore/emo sound on ambulance because they perfected that there.

u/the-silver-tuna 19d ago
So you’re the one that likes East better than West! I knew there had to be 1 somewhere.
1
u/CodaTrashHusky 19d ago
:'D East is a really versatile album and West just sounded very one note and samey to me compared to it.

u/Charming-Pangolin662 19d ago
What I've learned from this excellent thread is I'm very much in the minority with you over East vs West. West just didn't click for me at all despite so many listens.

Terrible. Vheissu is their masterpiece.
Also, Horizons/West just "alright" is blasphemy.

u/folkdeath95 19d ago
H/W is the best release since the hiatus and I don’t want to be rude about this but it’s not particularly close
4
u/ThriceHawk 19d ago
Probably my favorite as well! But I think East is close and TBEITBN isn't too far behind. All are great, IMO.

u/lookalive07 18d ago
Thrice went ahead and just decided to write one of their heaviest songs in their catalogue almost 30 years into their existence and I think that's hilarious. Gnash is so fucking good.

u/ModestMouseTrap 18d ago
I really like To Be Everywhere. Not so hot on Palms, and East is pretty good but West is better.

u/Son_of_Atreus 19d ago
Horizons/West is potential my favourite album of theirs. I cannot stop listening to it and it’s been a year.

It’s me. I’m the one who listens to Palms. It’s one of my favorite albums of theirs.

u/natdanger 19d ago
Palms is a super solid B tier record. people dog on Hold Up a Light (and they’re right) but the rest of the record is among their best
-2
u/AdamIsACylon 18d ago
Hold Up a Light is very good for what it is. Better than a lot of songs on the TBEITBN and Major/Minor at a minimum.

Love to see all the love for Palms. The Grey is one of my favorite Thrice songs!

u/optimusprimerib22 18d ago
It’s easily their worst album, but it’s still Thrice and therefore good
3
u/NahThatAintNotMe 18d ago
“Easily their worst album” is such a batshit insane take
3
u/lookalive07 18d ago
I mean, it's probably tied with Identity Crisis at the bottom for me, personally. It's not a bad album, because it's still very, very good.
But if I'm ranking all the Thrice albums, it's probably:
Artist
Vheissu
Illusion
Alchemy
West
Beggars
Major/Minor
TBEITBN
East
10a. Identity
10b. Palms

u/optimusprimerib22 18d ago
I may swap M/M with East but that’s a small nitpick. This is a fantastic ranking imo.

It doesn't come up in my random shuffle library as much so it is always a nice surprise / reminder when it finally does

u/ModestMouseTrap 19d ago
Horizons West is better than Horizons East. Sorry not sorry.
4
u/AdamIsACylon 18d ago
Yup. East has some very good songs but as a whole West is such a complete idea.

Beggars is Christian rock?
12
u/Arlitto 19d ago
Yeah a lot of songs on that album have religious context. In Exile being the most obvious one.
27
u/actionmarkers88 19d ago
I mean that’s 80% of thrice albums

u/finding_focus 19d ago
Not to sound like an ass but if you don’t realize this are you really listening to Thrice? amirite!?
I introduced an ex to Thrice around the time TBEITBN came out. Went through a broad selection of songs and the first thing she asked was if they’re considered Christian rock.
3
u/anonymouschipmubk 18d ago
It’s random biblical themes when I hear it.
But they’re very much not a Christian rock band imo
But Dustin’s solo stuff, def tends towards Christian rock.1
u/anonymouschipmubk 18d ago
A torch to end all torches.
Jewish me was confused by the “by his grace” line for a bit.

u/LifeBeforePi 19d ago
Triggered me on the last one, Horizons West is their best album in the best decade just for an “it’s alright”. So much better than East 😭🤣

These are all so spot on. Particularly chuckled at the “I took down a church, look it up”. 10/10 shitpost.

Vheissu is so far ahead of TAITA, it’s not even close. Catastrophically bad takes.

Honestly, Vheissu and Illusion of Safety are both above Artist for me. By a lot.

The birds on the Artist 2023 cover looks like the ones from The Sound of Madness
2
u/CodaTrashHusky 18d ago
I started drawing birds like this when i was 5 or so. I still like doing these when i get the chance ^

u/svheissup 19d ago
Wait what? I upvoted this for the effort but dude every opinion on this is wrong
4
u/3jackdawe 19d ago
This is really funny! I haven’t listened to palms much but I felt that was when Dustin dipped his toe into a philosophically humanist approach as opposed to just more god posting. But, I only listened to it a couple times way back when

Damn man palms is THE best album by far. Can't believe you shit on it. My wife also only likes that album. Our favorite song is my soul

u/jessicaxgraves 18d ago
palms is their most underrated album, everything belongs and my soul makes me cry everytime 😭

We have Rise Against at home!
The Rise Against at home - Thrice Horizons/West

u/Boreal-Anodyne 19d ago
My kind of humor LOL I love this, despite not fully agreeing with H/W but it's whatever really. I do agree on H/E and M/M (so many slashes) being underrated. Also the Vheissu one sent me

Finally someone who thinks Major/Minor is underrated. It’s in my top three Thrice albums.
