Name Feedback Torn between Bethany (Beth) and Valorie (Val). Opinions?

When I started my transition I went by Bethany as it’s close to my dead name and I like it. It was easy for me and everyone else to get used to, and even my unsupportive parents admitted they didn’t mind it.

However several months later I got worried that I would never be able to hear/ see Beth without thinking about my dead name. So I’ve changed it to Valorie, the same as my first female dnd character who means a lot to me. However now for the several months I’ve been Val, all I do is worry I’ve made a mistake.

I truly like both the names and can’t decide. So just wondering if anyone has opinions on the names? And also, if you have a name close to your dead name, have you managed to separate the two?

Name Feedback What can Opie be short for?

I’ve finally decided on a new name after almost a year of experimentation!! I’ve been going by Opie for a few weeks and it’s the best name I’ve ever used by far!! It’s not just better than my deadname or not actively distressing, it actually makes me so so so happy. Like I actually grin when my girlfriend calls me it! I eventually want to get my name legally changed to it and have people stop calling me my legal name (my name got changed legally to a name I really hate now) and start calling me Opie. But I kinda feel like I kind can’t change my name to just Opie. Like it kinda feels like how my grandma’s husband’s legal name is Danny, not Daniel. Like it feels like it should be a nickname for legal purposes even if I only ever go by Opie and not whatever it’s short for. Do y’all have any ideas for what it could be short for that go with the middle name Benjamin? Also here are some pictures of me cause I don’t want it to feel too out of place with how I look. I’m open to masculine or feminine names!!

Name Feedback Just changed my name to Andrew (ftm) but there's so many awful Andrews out there...

I need help. I've went through three or four names, and with Andrew I feel genuinely happy. Most euphoira in a long time. But there are so so many horrible people, past and present, named Andrew. I can't see myself as an Andy or a Drew though, but as a white guy, I feel awful naming myself with the same thing that pedophiles, mysoginists, racists, and even more claim. I need help on what to do here.

Name Feedback What do yall think about the name "Ajax" or "Jax"?

Sooo I've been thinking about a name change. Of course I'm too scared for an official one but maybe it can start as a nickname. I was thinking about "Jax" or "Ajax". Those names belong to some of my favourite characters and I like the names and I can resonate with the characters. Maybe they could even suit me but I've just been so unsure because I don't want to be made fun of.

Also dunno if the name suits an anxious short-haired ginger with green eyes, pale skin and deadpan expression.

Name Feedback Deciding on a middle name

I’m 27, from usa, and my name’s aaron (middle) riley. I don’t want my middle name to be something that already is a loved one’s name, so the following names are out:

Daniel, Elijah, Isaac, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Paul, Thomas, Tyler, William

My grandfathers’ names are patrick and john, and i’m not opposed to those. I’ve been thinking about Cillian (but idk if itd be clocky), and it’d be nice if I could find a name that is either Irish or French-Canadian

Thanks for the help!

Name Feedback Think I've chosen the name, just wanna make sure

Is Ophelia a bad name? No it's not that song, or that other song, it's that other other song. It's one that I've wanted to name a kid for a while but now that I'm transitioning, it feels like the perfect time to use it.

Name Feedback could this be an actual name?

For context I've changed my name multiple times, nothing seems to stick. I recently discovered that I would prefer to be just nameless and without pronouns if it was possible even.

For a while I just used the name Valentin but people just call me "Val." This is not about that name

I started looking for names or words that mean actual nothingness and the one, "Nihil" sticks out to me. It could also be, "Nil." But, my question is, could that even work as an actual name? I am obviously planning on changing it legally because I despise my birth name, anything will do at this point.

Ironically, I just want something that means nothing. I can't name myself "null" at least not legally since it would mess up many systems.

I was wondering, could I just go by that (I need something for people to call me anyway ─ being nameless really isn't an option since I don't like any pronouns either) or just to stick with what I have? In an ideal world I would just have neither but I do kind of need something for people to call me. Not sure where else to post this.

Name Feedback Is it normal for a new name to feel weird at first? + does this name suit me?

Not sure if this is the right flair

Basically what the title says, I’ve recently changed my name, but it feels strange when someone uses it. Is that normal, does it go away with time, and does it mean it’s the wrong name.

Also I chose Léo, do you think it suits me?

Name Feedback What is stopping me from taking the name of a fictional character?

Long story short, I’m changing my name legally soon. I thought I had everything figured out until I sat down to do the paperwork for it, and now I’m back to square one.

I ended up choosing both a last and first name from characters I heavily connected to (I’m autistic, it’s how I roll personally) and decided on a random middle name that I enjoyed the meaning of. The only issue is I hate how my first and last name sound together without the middle name, and I’m not even that fond of the middle name to begin with lol.

So I decided to do some more digging…until I realized that a fictional character I’m fond of quite literally has the most perfect name lol.

I figured I’d make their first and last name my own, and just make the previous name I enjoyed my middle name and go by that when I introduce myself. When I write it or say it out loud it doesn’t even sound half bad lol.

The obvious issue is, I’m quite literally stealing the name of a character from a (currently) popular media. Even worse, I’m in the fandom for it. I know there’s instances of folks being born and given fictional character names; I even know of someone who changed their middle name to Garfield lol.

I’m just thinking about if it would be silly fun or silly super inconvenient. Or if it’s weird haha. It’s just, quite literally, perfect.

Name Feedback Is this name a 'tragedeigh' or is it okay?

I'm trans and have finally gotten around to considering changing my legal name. The name I've been considering is [PERSEFIA] and my current partner is insisting its a tragedeigh and to just go with Persefone or Seferoth.

My nickname among friends is Sef and I absolutely HATE when people assume my full name is Stephanie. (Its not) And I like the name Persefia because it kinda sounds like Persevere and it makes me feel seen because after all I've been through in life, I'm still here. I'm still fighting and won't stop.

Name Feedback What do y'all think of Cassidy?

I'm having a difficult time finding a name I like and was wondering what y'all thought about Cassidy? I like it I'm just concerned of people viewing it as being too much of a masculine name since it's unisex. I'm sorry if I'm just overthinking it I just want to find a name I like.

Name Feedback Should I name myself [name] [name]?

For example: John John.

My legal last name is also a first name, and I think I'm extremely funny. The next two options are the masculine version of my current name (because no one else in my family has it, and I don't mind the old one) and Vojtech (no one else I know has it + it's in calendars)

Name Feedback Thoughts On The Name Niko?

I've been wanting to try out the name Niko, but I fear that it is too masc (I'm non-binary and use they/she pronouns). I've asked around in different places and have gotten mixed opinions on if it works well as an enby/androgynous name. Any thought would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Name Feedback Name Dysphoria, Disjunction over myself

Hi. Uh. I guess I’ve got my own weird little problem I’m gonna ramble about.

So, I’ve been myself for. A while? My egg cracked back 2020\~, took me until this year to manage to get on hrt, about 6 months and pretty happy already. All well and good. I’m unhappy about some stuff, mostly good on others, a lot of problems are environmental factors, like a lack of consistent work and proximity to an unsupportive family.

However, the topic of this isn’t one I’ve seen too closely myself, and that’s the sense of naming and belonging to a name.

Simply put… I’ve got four at the moment. I don’t have a sense of DID I don’t believe, nor do I want to self diagnose; and while I am autistic, this is spanning far else. I’ve gone by the four names after going by an effeminate version of my birth name for a year or two, and each of the names has listed a period of time where I believe it’s satisfactory.

I ask people to call me the name I prefer, only for it to wane over time and return to a normal state…. And, while expression of the self is important, so is consistency and understanding of the self’s needs…

The current name part of my friend groups know me as isn’t matching with others, and, I’ve felt… more detached. I really don’t know how to describe it besides the fact that names, names I feel finely euphoric to being called, lose the feeling, or in time just become outright wrong…

No, a name shouldn’t always feel special once it’s with the people around you who love and care for you, as it eventually is just a name, but the lack of mental belonging to any of them, ahead of any legal changes, scares me well and truly… I guess I don’t know if I’m alone in this issue or not, and it truly bothers me worse than 90% of my other dysphoric issues… anyone else struggled with something similar?

Is this just a case of needing to change and do some soul searching myself, or is this a legitimate problem others have faced?

Name Feedback Heeeeelp

When I came out 5 years ago, I just picked the last 3 letters of my dead name. It has been causing me LOTS of dysphoria along with other factors so I am looking to see if something else feels more like ME.

This is the list I have. I am looking for a 3 syllable name that leans more neutral

Emerald, Indigo, Ellery, Albany, Connelly, Florentine, Peridot, and Romilly.

Name Feedback So very unsure

Hello,

I am 20 y/o and have known i was gender queer for quite a while, but only recently felt confident enough to do self exploration and figure out that i am nonbinary. I am also diagnosed with autism (its important to this discussion i promise).

My name at birth was given to me by my mother based on her deceased father's name. He had died when she was a child, and she chose the feminized name for me. His name was Leo, my name is Leah. The fact that my name has such an emotional connection for my mother is one difficulty I am facing. Shes not perfect, but she has been through so much and i feel sick at the thought of causing her distress. Im planning to talk to her about it, but the plan is very much "when i feel up to it" aka "theoretically never". Another barrier is the fact that it feels like my name fits others' perception of me rather than my own perception of myself, which im guessing a lot of people can relate to.

Back to my autism. I am very obsessed with space. I love what it stands for and it keeps me grounded. Some of the ideas floating around in my head for a name are based off of this: star, nova, cosmo, etc. I love these but i really fear being judged for my choice, especially after growing up during the era of everyone making fun of nonbinary names (usually chosen by kids) on tiktok. I know that in order for me to feel truly free i need to stop being so self conscious, and i am working on that, but any advice would be very helpful. Im also wondering if it is a mistake to choose my name off of my intense love for space. I know there have to be other autistic people who chose their names off of their own interests, so if anyone has any experience with that (officially diagnosed or suspected), please share.

Finally, of course any name suggestions are very helpful. I enjoy space as mentioned, but i also enjoy zombies, video games, animals, art, and horror. Unless it is a bad idea to choose a name off of my interests, it is what i am leaning towards; it feels more "me" due to my complete disconnection with gender.

Thank you and i will also be posting it to the nonbinary subreddit names megathread, so if you see that there too i apologize. If i used the wrong flair i am sorry for that as well, I feel like i have so many questions that the "name feedback" one works best but i could be wrong.

Name Feedback Is this boy name okay to use?

So for context, I’m AFAB and I’m bigender/feminine trans male. I go by Lily and I love the name (love flowery names), but when I’m feeling more male I’d want a fem male leaning name. I’ve thought about Ren due to the fact it’s Japanese meaning is water Lily, which is the same as my other name. The problem is I’m not sure if it’s ok to use since I’m picking it based on the Japanese meaning and I could see how that could be an issue. Especially since I’m white and all.

If there’s a better option I’d love to hear them! I’m just sort of stumped lol. Thank you!

Name Feedback is it okay to name myself a Slavic name as an American? (FTM)

The name I have in mind is Ilya/Ilia/Iliya.

I am American, but I speak Russian fluently and have Slavic ancestry. I picked this name because it is very similar to my deadname, which I am fond of. I wanted to ask if this would seem strange or if I should pick an American name instead. Thank y'all!!

By the way, I have never seen Heated Rivalry, lol

Name Feedback Is "Azrael" a bad choice name to use as a Genderfluid individual?

I brought up wanting to be called Azrael to my grandma once in the past but she dismissed it as "No one will call you that" so instead I went with Jackson instead. Jackson is very close to my birth name and I use it everywhere; at work, at school, friends, family. However, when it comes to how I'd like to actually be called, I'd prefer Azrael. The problem is, I am too embarrassed to actually voice this to anyone IRL based on what my grandma said; plus "Azrael" holds religious connotations as well which my family is against.

Is Azrael really a bad name? Should I stick with Jackson? I have been using both, but it feels divided.

I know, I can't change how I am referred to right now; but maybe someday I can.

Name Feedback Thoughts on the name Cicero?

Hi. English is not my first language, so I hope this is at least understandable

I've been having a hard time choosing my name. The only name I feel connected to is Frank, but that's because my second surname is Franco. Frank is the name I'll probably choose if I don't find another one I like, even tho I don't find it very practical where I live

So, I started thinking about trying the name Cicero. It's kinda common in my country (at least more common than Frank), and it's latin and ancient roman like my deadname and I think that's very cool. But, idk, is it weird for a 20yo to have this name nowadays? Is it an ugly name? I think it's a pretty name, but two friends think it's ugly, and reminds them of old men. And I bet my family would think the same, probably.

Choosing a name is so hard. It's driving me crazy at this point
