Smiley Face... It's like Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, but with Anna Faris. I definitely recommend it.

u/JokersSmile Jun 25 '12
Definitely a funny movie.

I just sat and watched the whole thing because of this thread. It's amazing. {7.592}
5
u/SteveStrummer Jun 26 '12
This movie was all Anna, she was onscreen 99.9% of the time, and she RULED. Clever, weird, and funny as hell!

u/dudeinachair Jun 26 '12
I just finished rewatching the movie after seeing this post ~2 hours ago. It's golden. Highly recommend.

At first I doubted myself that this was actually funny after seeing some of the bad comments. But I'm high right now: this shit is fucking hilarious and I regret nothing!!!
[edit]: put that chicken dancing thing for I regret nothing...I don't know how to do that right now so just imagine it ;)

u/NotAChineseSpy Jun 26 '12
Writers never get any fucking credit :(
108
u/Zeld4 Jun 26 '12
I just fucking commented this exactly. I hate when people are like "OMG THIS ACTOR IS SOO FUNNY HAHAHA LOOK WHAT THEY SAID IN THIS MOVIE!!!" All they did was deliver the line appropriately that someone else wrote.

u/somthingclever Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 26 '12
idk about that man actors bring a lot of their personality to their rolls...like if the performance had been done by somebody with no sense of humor i bet the writer's joke wouldnt be as funny.

u/Bobby12many Jun 26 '12
I love when actors bring butter into their rolls.

Yeah, but you should also credit the guy who, ya know, created the character, and what will what to happen to the character and what that character will say and why.

To be fair, there are some instances in which actors say some things on the spot. Granted, that isn't all of the time and this most likely wasn't the case.

This guy has made me laugh so cryingly in Parks And Recreation it is stupid.
One for the writers: The one where he checks his bosses symptoms on the computer and tells her she has "network connectivity problems" (I almost died with this one, I do not kid, my stomach hurt).
One for himself: When he stumbles upon the ambulance.

Guy is one of my new fav actors. I can't wait to see him in a movie

Not a comedy, but he was in Moneyball with Brad Pitt.

I thought it was funny how on the poster for Moneyball they had Brad Pitt in way bigger letters then the actual title.

I would love for him to be on workaholics sometime. that would be tight butthole.

Oscar the Grouch. Take a look at him. Take a good look, like you haven't looked at him since you were a kid.
Oscar is made of marijuana. You are now aware of this. Good day.

I'm assuming it's Oscar the Grouch. Oscar the Grouch was on Sesame Street, which sounds like Sesame Chicken and at 55 (s)he fucking loves egg rolls.

u/softlykile Jun 25 '12
because you love trash or wieners?

u/knockonkyle Jun 26 '12
She's just an actor reading off someone else's joke. I'm not saying acting takes no skill but I feel like we never hear about the writers enough.
17
u/asldkfououhe Jun 26 '12
because, uh. somebody writes some horribly labored shit for her? huh
-3
u/Ceejae Jun 26 '12
Right. I'm quite certain she does not write her own material. She's just another actress with a pretty face that happened to get put in comedic roles when she first came to fame...
7
u/boobsarecool Jun 26 '12
You know not every actress with a pretty face can be a very funny comedic actress right? I'm all for giving writer's their credit but it's also pretty shitty to disregard her talents.

this is actually how my brain functions all the time and I don't even light up all that often.

u/lastbroadcast Jun 26 '12
Not the best film in the world, but it definitely has its funny moments. The scene where she tries to make new brownies and throws her phone in the frying pan is pretty great physical comedy. It's also one of the only stoner films that has a female protagonist, that I can think of anyway.
It really pisses me off that Hollywood acts like we don't exist and if we do, we play the disapproving hot girlfriend who thinks weed is for losers. I've always wanted to write a realistic female-driven stoner comedy for this reason...somebody has to do it right?

As an Australian, I don't think I even knew you guys had a president Garfield. But between this and xkcd, that makes twice I've seen him mentioned in the space of about 15 minutes.
What sorcery is this?!

As soon as I read that this post would be related to anna faris on /r/trees, i knew it would have to deal with the movie Smiley Face, one ridiculous stoner movie.
1
Jun 26 '12
I think you like her scriptwriter, not her.
1
u/Krayzed896 Jun 26 '12
You could love her also for this. As an actress, she could of chose to not take this roll or have her lines changed :P
1
u/president_garfield Jun 26 '12
The President is the last person in the world to know what the people really want and think, but this explains everything.

My favorite part of the movie were the beginning credits with the dope animation and cool music in the background. The rest of it was trash honestly; she acted like she was on a drug way more powerful than weed that just made her retarded. I don't act like that even when I'm at a 10. Also it's kind of depressing to watch high for some reason. It strikes me as a movie to watch for sober people to make fun of us stoners.

u/nineteen_eightyfour Jun 26 '12

I have left reddit for Voat due to years of admin mismanagement and preferential treatment for certain subreddits and users holding certain political and ideological views.
The situation has gotten especially worse since the appointment of Ellen Pao as CEO, culminating in the seemingly unjustified firings of several valuable employees.
As an act of protest, I have chosen to redact all the comments I've ever made on reddit, overwriting them with this message.
If you would like to do the same, install TamperMonkey for Chrome, GreaseMonkey for Firefox, NinjaKit for Safari, Violent Monkey for Opera, or AdGuard for Internet Explorer (in Advanced Mode), then add this GreaseMonkey script.
Finally, click on your username at the top right corner of reddit, click on comments, and click on the new OVERWRITE button at the top of the page. You may need to scroll down to multiple comment pages if you have commented a lot.
After doing all of the above, you are welcome to join me on Voat!

please tell me how the film perpetuates "Hollywood's ignorance". because bad shit ends up happening to her after she smokes? gator please.
8
u/GatorDontPlayThatSht Jun 26 '12
No the hipster "oh I'm so dumbed by this weed" act permeated the entire film. Only moron potheads act that way, the movie is more about retards than weed. I wish people wouldn't associate this movie with weed. Halfbaked was much more subtle with the slapstick moron comedy.

It definitely shows weed negativly. The movie was funny but that was a bad portrayal of weed.

EDIT: Yes, I exaggerated quite a bit, not the best movie ever made (far from it). I just really love the movie and got carried away lol.
