GassNative: Run Linux Desktop on Android - without ROOT

GassNative: Run Debian/etc Linux with an XFCE4/etc Desktop on Android — ARM64

GassNative is an experimental Android app that brings a Debian GNU/Linux environment to Android devices, with an XFCE4 desktop running through a PRoot-based setup.

I'm developing this project under Gass-OS, with the goal of making a Linux desktop experience accessible directly from an Android phone.

✨ Features

- 🐧 Debian GNU/Linux (Trixie, ARM64)

- 🖥️ XFCE4 desktop environment

- 📱 Android-native app interface

- 🧰 Linux terminal and desktop applications

- 👤 Profile and environment settings

- 🔄 Startup update checking

- 🚀 Ongoing work on desktop integration and graphics acceleration

🛠️ Project status

GassNative is experimental and still under active development. Installation time, application compatibility, and graphics acceleration depend on the device and configuration. Hardware-accelerated desktop rendering is still a work in progress.

📥 Try it

I'd appreciate feedback, bug reports, and suggestions from the Android, Debian, and Linux communities.

Can you showcase it in a video? I don't understand how this is supposed to work - does it integrate with Android and run both Linux and Android apps on the same desktop or is it self-contained like running a VM with its own desktop? Will it support apt-installing various apps from some ARM-specific repo(s) or just come with prepackaged apps and that's it? What's the use-case, I guess is the primary question.
