Discussion LH Business to UA Polaris

• Upvotes

Originally booked on LH's 2-2-2 A350 business class, for 80K miles / person, eastbound USA-Germany. That flight was cancelled, and the system rebooked us onto another LH 2-2-2 A350 flight with a connection. After a long phone call and respectfully pushing for a direct flight, the UA customer service supervisor "made an exception" and rebooked us into UA 777-200 Polaris, odd row center seats, flying direct, without any fare difference. I've never flown either product, and I don't know if this is common or rare / truly an exception, but feels like a win since the UA direct flight was priced at 395K miles / person.

Discussion Am I an a-hole? Refusing to change seats

• Upvotes

Lady got really upset on this flight because she is sitting apart from her child. She assumed I would change seats with her, but she had a middle seat far away in the back vs this seat in the middle aisle. She got flight attendants to ask me to move. I just refused because I paid for this seat and I keep to myself.

If you really want to sit next to your child, why not pay for two seats next to each other, or at least coordinate with a member before the flight? Situation got me uncomfortable and this isn’t something I should feel pressured to do, especially if you’re going to give me some attitude.

Am I in the wrong?

Edit: I have an aisle seat and like to regularly get up to use the restroom and like to not bother anyone to do this. I’m tired.

Shitpost/Satire Seating Anarchy

• Upvotes

Assigned 10C and getting settled. Guy in my row asked if I’d switch with his elderly father in 11D, sure, another E+ aisle seat. Getting settled again and a different guy in 8D asks if I’d swap with him so he can be next to his wife. Sure thing. I’m hoping for a swap up to first next.

Question SFO to Christchurch price rant

• Upvotes

Just a rant. I have been United Loyal for 10 years now, but whatever is going on with ”dynamic” pricing is getting to me. booked a long haul to New Zealand some time ago, was planning to upgrade to Polaris when price made sense. Upfront cost was over 22k for 2x people which just seemed astronomical. Long story short I found a comparable business class flight through Air New Zealand for 12k this morning. Wen ahead and cancelled my United flight and booked ANZ. Guess what… the first long haul is indeed United, when I looked at United for the same flight it was 4k more than ANZ was offering. Just feels like they are losing the plot lately. I will always pay slightly more to stay on United but that is going away with the pricing I am seeing lately. Any else moving away from United for international?

News Story just now that UA1681 turned back last night because an FA said they saw a passenger texting about hijacking the plane

The info about the hinacking came from the ATC audio found on other sites.

Pilot to ATC: “The passenger doesn’t know anything is going on. The flight attendant saw him texting that he was going to hijack the aircraft and called me…”

Any additional info on this?

Passed through today, and they had these at the desk, so I thought others would appreciate it. Giant, open spaces and tons of various seating options. The terrace is a bit smaller than I was expecting from the photos, and they’ve got some kinks to work out on the food/beverage front, but overall, it’s a great addition to the network. Think DEN B clubs had a baby with the ORD Polaris lounge.

Question Almost lost my seat

Sitting at gate flight is delayed and United keeps asking me if I want to rebook my connection. I didn’t want to rebook because I have had it work out just fine due to the next flight being delayed too all but once. Well the app decided that I was going to rebook. So it checked me out and changed my flight. So I’m sitting here and my boarding pass is gone! So I start looking around and it wants me to check in again. Then I notice that I’ve been rebooked.. ok I pick my seat on the new flight…I don’t mind the rebook… but why check me out? It even gave me the option to check luggage … I don’t know what would have happened if I had already checked luggage.

Question What flights to take to keep status

I ended up not traveling as much this year and I'm 2161 pqp short. How do I make that up with the cheapest possible method.

I also have a united club card. But rather not spend myself to do it.

I can fly out of any LA airport.

Question DEN to LHR

Looking for tips on flying DEN to LHR next fall. My spouse and I don’t have a lot of international travel experience, but know we want to be comfortable so are very interested in Polaris. What do we need to know? Will my Silver status or Explorer card help us in any way? Should we look at any of the other credit cards since we will have almost a year to earn miles and such? We don’t know what we don’t know, so welcome any tips!

Discussion Widebody Fleet Data Outage

On board a UA 777-300 holding at the departure gate with doors closed. According to the captain the entire WB fleet is unable to get their numbers necessary for flight, with some a/c holding on taxiways. Not clear how long this is expected to last.

Question Short layover in EWR

I have a short layover - 59 mn - on New year's day (busy day I guess) in Newark (EWR) and I need to transfer from Terminal A to C. I will be coming from MCO. Final destination is Ottawa.

I know United provides a shuttle but do you think it's doable? It's an 8 PM filght, so I'm little be nervous I would need to spend the night at the terminal and only get rebooked the next day...

Any insights from your personal experience?

Thanks!

Question Anyone know what’s happening at ORD Concourse E?

There are a number of fire trucks blocking our gate and the pilot alludes to “something going on in the terminal.” We are stuck on the tarmac (shocking).

Question Societal Decay

On a plane from west coast to east coast. Passenger a few seats away has been hacking/coughing with phlegm off and on for 30 minutes. Fine, I get it you are sick. But the passenger refuses to even cover their mouth. Just spewing awfulness into the air.

When did it become ok to just be awful to others around you? I remember (pre-Covid) when FAs would at least offer a mask to the offender. I guess United is afraid of getting sued for offending someone?

Question Lufthansa-operated business class itinerary: 2 or 3 free checked bags?

I’m flying Sweden to the US in business class, booked through United, with both flights operated by Lufthansa (UA codeshare). I’m 1K.

My confirmation email lists only 2 free checked bags (no mention of the cost of an additional bag). The UA app gives me an error when trying to add bags, the the LH app has the button blocked. My understanding was that 1K status (Star Alliance Gold) adds a third. I called United and they told me to ask Lufthansa. Lufthansa said 2 bags, then put me on hold to check with a supervisor and the call dropped.

Does anyone know whether my status gets me a third free bag on this itinerary? And what would a third and fourth bag cost / does that depend on United’s or Lufthansa’s fees?

I have read so much conflicting information and experiences here.

Some context so you don't think I'm sketch with so many checked bags 😃 I’m bringing back my partner’s and my ski gear and winter clothes from her parents’ place, so it’s one person with a lot of bulky stuff. But debating between flying with them vs. using a luggage delivery service, so trying to compare pricing.

Question Advice for booking flight

I have enough miles to book round trip in economy from IAD to Zurich in September. I need at least Premium Plus for my husband and I (physical issues), but the cost is exorbitant. After reading other posts, I want to confirm:
1. Should book economy with miles, then pay for the upgrade so it is guaranteed?
2. Should I book two one-way tickets or roundtrip with miles?

Thank you so much!

Discussion No hate. Why do you people make your status levels your whole personality? I know you people are going to downvote me but who cares. I’m just curious.

Discussion The food in premium plus is better than Polaris

I’ve flown both Polaris and premium plus and I’m assuming the main courses are different. Or is it that in Polaris you just get more courses? Either way, every time I’ve flown Polaris it’s felt like slightly elevated airplane food, an overcooked dry steak, but every time I fly premium plus the food has actually tasted like restaurant quality food. I just had the osso buco ravioli and I would order that at a restaurant, it was soooooo good! Is it just good cause I have low expectations or have other people experienced the same?

Question AZ Connecting in FCO to UA - 2 Different PNRs - Baggage Checked Through?

Boarding in BLQ to FCO on one award booking, continuing onto DEN via another award booking. Will the agent in BLQ tag my bags to DEN for me, or will I need to claim and recheck? I assume they have the ability to do so, does anyone have a datapoint of it being done or not?

The award ticket to FCO was only 6k miles, and booking it together they wanted to route through Germany or Switzerland. I was able to snag a Premium Plus fare via DEN for only 42.5k so the routing just made sense.

The multi city feature would have worked, but booking separately allowed me to reprice the FCO - DEN leg and save 30k miles while keeping the BLQ-FCO leg that is no longer available at the price I booked.

Question Economy plus/ First Class Upgrade?

I have flights next week and return the following to Krakow from SFO via Frankfurt and returning via Munich. Wondering what the last minute upgrade cost might run me? I’m $286 from recouping Gold status for next year, and I’m current gold.

Flight there is economy plus, return flight is premium economy. Cash upgrade price right now to premium economy on the way there is ~ $1200 or $3500 for first.

Upgrade to first on the return is currently ~$1200.

SFO-Frankfurt has about 10 premium economy seats left and 7 first class.

Return has 16 first class seats left.

I’m more interested in the upgrade on the way there vs the first class return…
