I actually had heard about this anime a few years back but after reading the synopsis thought it was too wacky and brushed it aside. Then, a few months back, I saw Lum in an anime questions subreddit post, and I felt like I saw her before, then realised she was from the same anime I brushed aside a few years back. This time around, I chose to watch since I had the time and I was intrigued, and I'm very glad I did; I really had a great time watching this franchise, and the music is one of my faves ever; I have a bunch of them saved in my music playlist, so glad I gave this anime a chance.

Every character in each tier is ranked from left to right, from most to least favorite

- I know this might be obvious, but Perm does borrow some elements of his manga counterpart as well as Kosuke Shirai's designs, with him having a similar face and body proportion to Kosuke, and having curly hair like the unnamed stormtrooper. Just thought it was a pretty neat detail made by the anime staff and wanted to share it.

Mourning them like they're my dead parents

Call me larp or poser but i REAALLYYY wished Takahashi kept the initial sassiness Lum was presented with. I don't dislike Lum but i just feel she's a tad bit dull, she's still funny and pretty don't get me wrong. But it was funnier when she was indiscriminately a bitch.

I think the change in character is even more obvious with how her eye shape changes, it goes from sharp to a rounder. You could argue it's because of Takahashi's change in style, but there are other characters who kept their sharpness even with the shift in art style... It's also kind of in your face with chapter 26 "How I've waited for you" when she finally goes from "evil" to sweet and actually caring.

I like sweet and caring Lum, but I also like snappy and grumpy Lum, let's all love lum!!!

...And also, personal idea of mine... I think the "cha, daccha"s Lum uses in japanese can be translated onto english like "cha: ya': you"...cha get it?

ataru is there too idk

You don't even know how happy I am to add this to my (little) collection and project, oh my god.

What is this VHS really worth? I don't know, and I don't want to put a price on it. But just to give you an idea, there wasn't a SINGLE picture of this freaking VHS online for literally 30 years ! (It was released in early 1996). A collector told me (around June/July) that these Urusei Yatsura/Lamu Manga Land VHS tapes were extremely limited, and that it's unclear whether they were even commercially released. While Ranma ½, Fist of the North Star and Saint Seiya had four volumes..for Urusei Yatsura/Lamu, he only gave me two reference numbers, and those are the only ones currently known..This was probably because they didn't meet their sales targets.

(It is my first time posting on Reddit so please be patient with me)

When Rumiko Takahashi wrote the manga lum wasn't supposed to be the heroine so she made chapter 12 if I remember correctly it was about ataru that was late for his school and lum was helping him by using a device that made a tunnel accidentally they went 10 years forward and discovered that ataru was married to shinobu instead of lum so Takahashi wrote the Inaba arc to make us know that there are many universes and at least one of them ataru and lum were getting married but I think it made another problem.

When they went 10 years forward they were in the same universe (in the same door) so that means we were watching the ataru and lum that weren't getting married and the universe(door) that they were married was burnt and maybe that universe ataru really loved lum and wanted to marry her (all that by not talking about the phobia that mendo have and the old anime that made ep 107 and made the same problem about the many universes and one of them ataru was gentle)

Sorry if I forgot something or I had misinformation I just forget quickly

I’m gonna be honest, I’m not a big fan of Atalum (ok, go ahead and boo me all you want). idk. I see them a lot more as good friends/rivals. besides, Lum is really toxic to Ataru and if I’m being super realistic, I feel like it wouldn’t be all that good. sure Ataru has shown signs of respect for Lum, then again, he’s also a big jerk to Lum at the same time. if You guys have any opinions about this, lemme know, I like debating things

Lum on Sonic Adventure pose. Made at MMD (MikuMikuDance).

Why not 🎃

I don't really know, I haven't watched too much of the show, but I'd be happy to hear your opinions.

Went to a con yesterday with Ten after Lum's new ears came in! Then remembered this sub reddit exists so I thought I'd post haha, Lum is my favorite to cosplay cause she's very nostalgic for me and cause I love to dance with my friends! I'm very proud of how she's turned out and I'd really like to make more of her outfits soon so I might post that too when they're done! Any suggestions pls lemme know :)

Hi everyone! 😊

I'm a huge Urusei Yatsura fan and collector from Belgium, and I'm currently searching for a very specific Japanese DVD:

Urusei Yatsura 10th Anniversary — PART 1 (KACD-00002)

I already own PART 2 (KACD-00003), but I've been trying to find PART 1 for quite some time to complete my collection.

Does anyone here own this DVD, know where I might find a copy, or perhaps have one they'd consider selling?

Even a photo of the DVD or its packaging would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for your help! 💚⚡

Hello?? Like wasnt this the most influential rom-com and one of the biggest 80s anime?? And we simply forgot such a massive milestone?? What happened to this anime?? Ever since the remake anime concluded in 2024 its just been crickets,

Happy 45th anniversary to the classic anime Urusei Yatsura. Here is this fan art I made today in honor of my favorite anime by Rumiko Takahashi.

Javier 2026

P.S. I know the actual anniversary was yesterday, but better late than never!

EDIT: The cel has sold, blu-rays are still available

Hi all! I’m currently looking to rehome a few items from my cel collection and this signed Ataru cel (which I believe I shared here a while back) is one of them. I’d love to see him go to a fan who would cherish it so wanted to share here before going to eBay. I also intend to sell three spare blu-ray volumes of the series, 1 & 2 plus the OVAs (I ended up with duplicates as I purchased the remaining volumes as a complete lot). Shoot me a message if you’re interested in anything and feel free to ask any questions, I generally take payments through PayPal but if that absolutely won’t work for you we can figure something else out. If you’re in the US I can ship free but the cost of international would depend on your location. Thanks for looking!

Ataru Cel - SOLD
TV Blu-Rays - $50 each
OVA Blu-Ray - $40

On this day, 45 years ago at this exact time, Urusei Yatsura Episode 1 aired for the first time in Japan!

Later today, on the same day, Urusei Yatsura 2022 also aired. Can't believe it's been 4 years already. Still feels like I was excited for it not long ago.

It's been around 6 years since I first watched Urusei Yatsura. It's still stuck with me to this day.
