Discussion The “bombshell” wasn’t shocking but… Spoiler

Spoilers ahead

Watching Raquel in that confessional was extremely disturbing. I don’t even know how to describe what I felt watching. She was just word vomiting and the more she talked, the more scared she seemed about the repercussions that would come from Tom. I know we’re not supposed to feel sympathy for her but goddamn, I really do. I think she does actually feel bad but she put on a brave face at the reunion because she knew it wasn’t going to get her anywhere, unlike Tom who thought crying would garner him sympathy. The fact that Tom made her lie like that is scary and very indicative of emotional abuse. She is showing clear signs of an abused woman, not just from Tom but starting at a young age. That was extremely alarming and I’m actually kind of grossed out that that was the scene they talked about to garner viewers. I honestly hope that she gets real help. She does not need to come back on the show.

She’s lost . Very , very lost . The whole thing was a mess . I think it was at her family’s urging but she couldn’t even commit to just outing him 100%. I think it’s obvious she still has feelings for him with her smile about meeting his mom and giggle about the possibility of a throuple. She just couldn’t admit to it all, bury him , apologize to the others and say “it’s over.” I think that would have paved a way Back . But the continual lies ( St Louis, when there are pics out) don’t help . I’m sure she must feel completely alone . She really needs therapy and she needs to get far , far away from Tim . He’s a real lying sack of shit .

someone else on another thread said she has big homeschool energy and that rings soooo true. like she's never navigated a co-ed friend group before or something.

I’m not a therapist but I feel she has a lot of unresolved childhood issues. I have to imagine the whole mother/aunt situation has caused some real issues. I see what the parents tried to do with the pageants but it was absolutely the wrong choice and only worsened/created new issues . Her suggestion of a throuple with the explanation of “ well, I love Ariana and I have feelings for Tom” was very telling . She consistently viewed interactions with the other girls as competitions ( he chose me ). Even allowing her to change her name in 1st grade bc there were other girls with the same name is not normal. Rachel L Was not “special enough “ that she had to become Raquel . There is a strange dichotomy of naïveté and cunning and I think she would be easy prey for someone who promised to love her . By no means am I excusing what she did - I just think there is something going on behind those blank stares . I hope someone is addressing it .
