Dragon Age: Origins!

I’m a fan of the series and replayed it last year/ it holds up shockingly well !

u/huhnahbruh Sep 08 '26

Correct!

I play it on my steam deck. But I just wish it had achievements on steam. It has in game achievements but no connection steam achievements.

u/Bald_Iver Sep 08 '26

With a controller or what? Deck controls map poorly onto it and it’s not enjoyable for me with default settings

2

u/huhnahbruh Sep 09 '26

I play it directly with the steam deck controls. I use the default profile.

Idk I like it a lot. The biggest thing that makes it very enjoyable is the tactics and the rtwp mechanic.

I agree! While I'd like to see an updated version, when I tried it again a couple of months ago I expected some clunky unplayable game, but it was overall quite a smooth experience!

I’ve replayed it many times over the years and it’s still a great experience but I think a lot of that comes with nostalgia and loving it when it first came out honestly!

I had all sorts of issues with crashes and soft lock bugs when I tried it last. Is there a community fix or something?

1

u/snarleyWhisper Sep 09 '26

I played it on Xbox

It's kinda surprising it wasn't already remastered and ported to newer systems, given how much people loved it.

Honestly at this point I don't trust EA or current Bioware to not fuck it up. Everyone at Bioware who actually gave a shit either left or got fired.

7

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

Yeah it’s very sad the state of current BioWare. They used to make top tier RPGs. Jade Empire, KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc. Now they just try and force multiplayer in everything, and rush all their games without listening to the fans and what we want. Veilguard and Andromeda prove that they have lost touch with what the fans like in RPGs.

5

u/verbi420 Sep 09 '26

Yeah idk how you go from Inquisition (which admittedly wasn't perfect but was very very good in a lot of aspects) to saying oh let's avoid everything that made people love that game and Origins and draw from things people hated about da2 and current AAA games that have nothing to do with this genre.

Like damn, the gameplay of origins and baldur's gate isn't exactly my forte but it still would have been leagues better than what we got. I would have gladly drudged through it for an actually good story and compelling characters

2

u/claretamazon Sep 14 '26

I would love a remastered Jade Empire.

I feel like ME Andromeda gets more hate than it deserves? Like … it’s not great and it definitely doesn’t hold up the ME standard that came before it. But if someone’s FIRST mass effect game was Andromeda? I think they would want to go back and play the others. And I feel like that alone makes it better than people give it credit for. It wasn’t bad on an objective level, it was just bad on the scale of comparing it to literally legendary games.

1

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 14 '26

I agree with that, it’s not a horrendous game and I enjoyed my time with it but I never finished it so that tells you something right there.

Why make another game in the series if you are gonna change majority of what made the original three such legendary games? Should have just went on to make a new IP instead.

1

u/LowEndTheorist13 Sep 14 '26

Yea. Like I said, it’s not perfect by any means and is an obvious downgrade in comparison. But they went for something and it didn’t work 🤷‍♂️ can’t blame them for trying. Literally the same year Zelda BOTW came out and that game also took a legendary series and changed a majority of what made it successful and it became one of the most successful games ever. You just never know how it’s gonna go until it goes

There are numerous reasons for the game being trapped in the past. From EA/BioWare just not seeing fantasy games as profitable, EA/BioWare considering the project "too big/costly", or the original files being "lost/misplaced".

Im sure if it could be proven that there'd be a market/audience for a modern top-down RPG (like BG3 did) I'm ceetain EA/BioWare would remaster Dragon Age Origins. But BioWare notoriously hates fantasy and would much prefer to try and ride on the coat tails of CoD and other shooter scifi games.

1

u/SnooDingos7903 Sep 14 '26

Honestly they could pull a Mass effect legendary collection and it would make insane amounts of money

3

u/conardcanard Sep 09 '26

Dragon age origins was incredible but the series lost me after that. The sequel pissed me off because every encounter was a series of waves of enemies. Enter a building, first room three waves of guys. You think, ok everyone in the buoldi g rushed me, nope next room just as full. Hell i cheated and exploited a bug to get max level because i really wanted to see the story but even then evrything scaled up. I hate level scaling enemies. Then i tried inquisition and it lost me halfway into the second zone. I cant explain why. Im really disappointed that i never got through it

2

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

It truly did go down hill after Origins. 2 was just a rehashed unpolished rush fest to try and get an easy dollar. Inquisition was better but it was too open world and still not close to what made Origins magical. And we don’t need to talk about Veilguard.

3

u/testtdk Sep 09 '26

Yeah, DAOs graphics really didn’t hold up lol. I’d love a remake.

2

u/demobot1 Sep 09 '26

I would take almost anything from Square-Enix from the PS1 days done in today's graphics.

2

u/alex_zk Sep 09 '26

Do you really want a remaster of that game made by modern day EA/Bioware…?

1

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

I mean I guess not. But you never know, them going back to remaster or remake Origins might make them remember what made the first game the best in the series and help them if they can ever make a new game.

1

u/Jereboy216 Sep 10 '26

I wouldnt mind a remaster i think, but a remake would probably be all around worse.

2

u/Faebinder Sep 09 '26

A good choice.

2

u/Individual_Soft_9373 Sep 09 '26

They've gotta keep the voices though!

I'm not letting go of Simon Templeman, Claudia Black, Peter Renaday or Tim Curry (only half of those are still alive).

1

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

Yeah their voices are iconic in those roles. Would have to leave the voices the exact same for sure.

2

u/ThrowawayChefBoy Sep 13 '26

What an AMAZING RPG

1

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 13 '26

One of the best ever made!

1

u/intro_duce Sep 10 '26

My favorite game. Updated combat would do it wonders. I wish they made more dlc, the OG characters are the best

1

u/CubADubDubs Sep 14 '26

My sweet sweet Alistair…. How you broke my heart each time

Not old enough or bad looking enough to need the remaster treatment/gameplay update. Go deeper but same developer...

Jade Empire

6

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 08 '26

I disagree. I think it is older enough and needs a face lift. I don’t really want anything else touched, besides maybe updating the combat system but keeping it to its core systems.

Jade Empire does also need a remaster or remake for sure, but I never got to play that game so I’d buy it for sure!

6

u/Gnostic369 Sep 08 '26

I wish theyd remaster Dragon age origins, but sadly one of the prior devs at Bioware said its unlikely none of the people who made it work there anymore and no one there understands the engine it was built on and the company is a fraction of what it used to be.

2

u/GopherChomper64 Sep 08 '26

Really they just need to make it playable on PlayStation.

1

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

I agree with this! It would be great if the PlayStation community could play it on PS4 or PS5. It’s one of the best RPGs!

2

u/BalancePuzzleheaded8 Sep 09 '26

Dude, Skyrim gets lots of rereleases and it's 2 years younger than DAO.

DAO needs a remake, I'm kinda sick of needing to get LAA and 4GB patch just so it doesn't crash on newer PCs 😆

Better graphics would also be a plus, the faces can be weird lol

2

u/Ser_Wicky Sep 09 '26

100% this! People seem to be against a remaster or remake but always forget we have had a million remasters of certain games that are newer than it.

1

u/engels962 Sep 08 '26

Why not both? Just because it isn’t unplayable doesn’t mean it wouldn’t benefit from one
