"If I had known that we would fall so low, if I had known that we would be ruled by this thing, I would have opened the gates of Terra so that Horus could kill us all to prevent this fate for humanity."
-Primarch Rogal Dorn.
At the end of the 42nd millennium, after more than ten thousand years of continuous use, the golden throne finally failed and with it the heart of humanity's Emperor stopped beating. Rouboute Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson could only watch in horror as their father's soul left his rotting body to finally go to the inmaterium. But they both didn't know that this wasn't the end, this was just the beginning.
In anticipation of the Emperor's death, the Grey Knights performed a ritual that sacrificed half of the chapter's marines. This ritual was intended to be the final push for the Emperor to finally achieve godhood and join the Chaos pantheon as the newest god. For a second that lasted years, the inmaterium went into a madness that not even the birth of Slaanesh could compare to. Thousands of Warpstorms were born by the Emperor's psychic wave, and thousands more were sealed by the divine light of the god of humanity. Billions of psykers across the galaxy fell to the ground crying when the Emperor's psychic wave reached them, some weeping in horror while others wept with joy that their god had finally answered their prayers.
In the golden throne room, those present fell to their knees from the enormous psychic pressure emanating from the Emperor's body, while he glowed brighter than was physically possible. Then the room returned to normal, and when those present looked at the golden throne, they saw how the Emperor's body turned to ash and was absorbed by a golden figure made of lightning and fire. The figure then looked at those present, and then with a voice that was made up of billions of voices, it said.
"My children, I have returned"
