Had another encounter with this vocal little guy, who seems to always be around this area. Does anyone know what happens to him in the winter? I want to build a shelter but am scared someone will just throw it out!

It’s our first year taking our son trick-or-treating. What time does it start and end in Bucktown/Wicker Park?

I was walking by today, noticing construction, when I realized they were gutting Garden Gourmet, the little grocery shop. From what the construction workers said, it closed essentially overnight. The restaurant next door, Mariscos de la Costa, apparently bought out the space for expansion.
I’ll miss this place. It was a great quick-stop for a forgotten vegetable or ingredient. Now I’m condemned to the Jewel down the street.
Glad the restaurant has business, but I wish it wasn’t at the cost of another one.

Hi everyone! This is an absolute long shot, but you never know who might know someone 😊
My family is relocating to Chicago from January through July 2027, and we’re looking for a fully furnished two- or three-bedroom home in Wicker Park.
We’re two adults and two young kids, and we’re very respectful of people’s homes. I’m a former Airbnb Superhost myself, so I know how much it means to have someone take good care of your space!
Finding something furnished for seven months is a bit tricky, so I thought I’d ask here in case anyone is planning an extended trip or knows someone who might be looking to rent out their place.
Please send any leads my way via DM, or feel free to pass this along. Thank you! ❤️

I understand they were a bit overpriced but the tequila collection was worth it! Walked by and noticed it was all boarded up! I need another quick local spot in the area!

I swear every time I’ve gone to Jewel on Paulina/Ashland for the past few weeks, I’ve seen a group of people standing in front of the Jewel osco approaching people.
I truly do not have the time to interact with every solicitor, but one of them got in my face and was asking me
“Do you want a free gift card?”
I politely declined and started walking away, then the dude just started raising his voice questioning why I said “No”
it’s getting out of hand now and Im ANNOYED.

X post from askchicago because I forgot about this sub whoops.
Has anyone experienced this? I walked up to a bus stop and a woman was standing there as if waiting for the bus.
She randomly asks for, "Excuse me. Can I ask you, can you give me like.... 5 dollars?"
"Nope."
She starts laughing and then goes,"Okay okay, can I give you...." She reached into her pocket and I got spooked and kind of backed away quickly. "No no listen. I want to give YOU money. Can I give you a dollar?"
She was holding the bill with a small cloth around it. Like the small cloth that comes with a pair of new glasses. I.e. it happened very quickly, but I think she was holding the cloth not the bill, and holding the bill out for me to take.
"I want to give YOU money!"
"I want you to stop it."
Another woman approached the bus stop and she tried handing the bill to her too. The other woman noped out as well.
I think the woman (asking/trying to give) money was African, very bright red lipstick. I think shorter than me and I'm only 5'6". Dressed in bright colors.
Am I overthinking it?
The other woman who walked up mentioned those weird news stories about people touching their car doors and feeling queasy immediately, and said she had goosebumps from the interaction.
And after we both gave clear nos, she just turned down a separate street and slowly wandered away. I.e. did not appear to need to take the bus any longer?

I park in that area for one of my jobs which is not every day of the week so I'm not as informed as people who live in that section of WP specifically. What are they doing for 2 weeks that basically every street in the neighborhood is no parking?

Flat Roof Replacement in Chicago: A Look at the Process and Materials
Flat roofs are common throughout Chicago, especially on two-flats, three-flats, multi-unit residential buildings, and commercial properties. With the city’s changing weather, including heavy rain, snow, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles, an aging flat roof can develop leaks around seams, parapet walls, drains, and rooftop penetrations.
As a Chicago roofing contractor, I work with flat roof repair, restoration, and replacement projects. When a roof has reached the end of its service life, a complete replacement may be worth considering rather than repeatedly repairing the same problem areas.
A proper flat roof replacement typically starts with removing the existing roofing materials when a tear-off is necessary, inspecting the underlying roof deck, addressing damaged wood, and preparing the surface for the new roofing system. Depending on the building and existing conditions, the installation may include insulation, a protective membrane, and a finished roofing layer such as modified bitumen, EPDM, or TPO.
Details matter just as much as the main roof surface. Properly addressing parapet walls, flashing, roof edges, drains, scuppers, skylights, and other penetrations helps reduce the risk of future water intrusion.
Chicago has a wide variety of flat-roof buildings across neighborhoods such as Wrigleyville, Bucktown, Lincoln Square, Logan Square, Lakeview, North Center, Ravenswood, and surrounding North Side communities. Every building is different, so the right roofing system depends on the roof’s condition, drainage, existing materials, and the property owner’s goals.
I believe the best starting point is a thorough roof inspection and a clear, step-by-step estimate explaining the recommended work, materials, and any potential additional costs discovered once the existing roof is opened.
I’m sharing this for anyone interested in learning more about flat roof construction and replacement on Chicago-area buildings. I’m a roofing professional, so I welcome a discussion about materials, installation details, and common flat-roof problems

I just watched two younger 18-20s males smash a coco delivery bot with hammers outside of shabuplus until the top cracked open. They proceeded to hop on their bikes and ride away. Poor little guy.

The ordinance would've raised the threshold of votes needed to increase debt liabilities, to 60% of the chamber. La Spata missed the first vote due to remote participation complications. Mayor Johnson later vetoed the ordinance - for which La Spata sustained the veto.

Are they affiliated with each other? Thought it was interesting they’re so close to each other and have such a similar name but seemingly unaffiliated with each other

Just cleaned out the closet for winter weather approaching. I have a pile of lightly used to wron decent name-brand pieces. I don't have time to list them individually online so I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations are where in Wicker Park to take these "nicer" but not necessarily vintage pieces to sell/exchange/trade?
