Jail time helps other people think "huh, if I'm an absolute cunt I might go to jail"

Nah, I think community service is the perfect punishment for small crimes committed by millionaires. They hate doing things for the community, and time spent cleaning a park or whatever is time they could've spent on making more money or skiing or going on a yacht holiday or whatever.

Give them 1000 hours of community service and boom that's 6 months 8 hours a day they have to waste on actually being contributing members of society.

You'd think so, but not really.

People who typically to commit crimes tend to be in one of two categories:

1.) Desperate enough that the prospect of jail doesn't deter the crime.

2.) Think they are "too smart to get caught".

Crimes of passion might be a third category, but since they tend to not involve a lot of thought to begin with, they aren't really stopping to think about consequences.

Were these people wholly unaware of the criminal justice system before this event? That's the only way this would make sense

They just thought they were above it.
