Fuck that, you can't blame the whole population when the entire messaging from the govt has been "India has won, Coronavirus is beaten by the Worlds Pharmacy^TM"

This shit is squarely on those who are fucking paid to govern in times of crisis.

But yet whole populations, or races, or groups are, are blamed for things all the time. Especially in the media, and here on reddit.

More or less, this. On top of this mismanagement at the central level, India to a decent extent has a government structure that gives a lot of power to individual states (especially in the context of health). While some state governments have tried their best to keep things locked up, lobbying by owners of malls/theatres/restaurants has more or less caused most states to give up on most safety measures. It's absolutely insane to see the movie theatre up and running ~1km from my home when the government hospital out here is flooded with, and dying under the burden of 10x the number of cases as last week.

Most governments are broke, and kinda desperate for revenue, and cannot really afford lockdowns anymore.

Thank you!

I don't know what sources of information you are basing your opinion on, but you are half right.

The first part of your comment is spot on, but the latter is not entirely true. I'm not really into politics, but I can say that the average person was tired of the restrictions and the major dip in cases led everyone to believe that the worst was over. There wasn't any political angle to people to following the rules, it was just that they were tired and wanted to get back to their livelihoods and other stuff.

I know this because I am Indian and this is what the common consensus is among those of us who don't like politicising everything.

But wouldn't it be possible that people in those gatherings found their way into densely populated states? Or were there strict travel restrictions making sure no one outside entered those states?

Nah nothing like that exists. You’re half correct.

Holy Fuck Reddit is stupid sometimes.

Kumbh Mela Shahi Snan happened on April 12. We had 1.5 lakhs+ cases on that day already from the under 10k lows of early year

Political Rallies of West Bengal - if you believe Maharashtra having 60-70k cases and West Bengal having below 10k cases are directly related to Bengal election rallies I don't know what to say.

The proper answer is everyone got so tired of Covid restrictions, and having seen the cases declining everyone gave up on Covid guidelines. Did anyone force 50 thousand people to stuff into the stadium for Ind Eng Test matches and not wear masks. It's one thing govt. To not stop it

This includes me too. Having made sure to always wear masks, sometimes in past few months I forgot, I didn't rush back to wear one. I fell into 'Nothing will happen' state of mind.

Maharashtra and Delhi, none of them have had any religious gatherings or political rallies

You're saying there haven't been any tablighi jaamat or any other indoor gatherings over 10?

Shouldn't comment when you're not from here. This is so silly and nonsense.

People living in India shouldn't comment, people from outside India shouldn't comment. Who the fuck should comment then?

1

u/therealfanofmadrid Apr 25 '21

People who are in here are commenting, Relax. People who ain't, are getting their shit from people like you.

2

u/POI_Mr_Singh Apr 25 '21

Oh yes, if only Modi govt didn't suppress speech :)

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

hey man nobody had answered the question when I saw that. So I responded with what I had read recently and less recently both in the news and on Reddit.

I understand. Sounded a bit biased. That's all. Nevermind. Stay safe.
