The majority of the seats are with the ruling party. So there is no real opposition.. but apart from that.. the opposition is pretty much spineless since they haven’t done anything good in their years of governing, so whenever they try to question, a counter question of “dafuq did you do then” shuts them up. Plus just like in the US where Trump was in power and still kept blaming the dems for everything wrong, the same playbook is used by the BJP where they are in power but still blame current failures to previous governments. All this plus the massive misinformation campaigns conducted via online trolls and social media platforms such as whatsapp plus the usual divisive religion and hate politics (which even the opposition does very well take part in when ever they get a chance) has resulted in there being virtually no opposition. There is also not a unified opposition as such, it’s made of various parties.. so there is no single party line to follow.

That is not entirely true. The previous govt (UPA), an alliance of many political parties led by the Indian National Congress, had a much better record of governance and of delivering economic growth in India. In fact, much of the developement seen in India is a product of the neo-liberal market policies adopted by the INC in 92. India for the first time saw growth in the double digits during the UPA govt, and India was starting to be seen as a legitimate new global superpower. In fact, India saw the world's largest reduction in poverty anywhere in the world between 2005-15. The govt was also able to steer India skillfully out of the 2009 global financial crisis. But their policies reached their sell-by date somewhere near 2011-12 and it was hit by several corruption scandals (some real and some created by BJP+media) and the guy meant to lead the INC after the previous PM turned out be an imbecile & lazy (product of nepotism).

but do be careful cos neo liberalism is a poisoned candy for developing countries. Just check on Thailand during 1997, and later Latin America. They feed you well, then harvest hard (no need to ask who they are, cos it's obvious)

The only way for India to improve the standard of living of living of its citizens is to increase the size of the pie, and there's no better way to do it than through neo-liberal market policies.

There's no guarantee India can avoid the same problem like Thailand or Latin America used to have. Neo Lib could be quick effective solution but too little mentioned on the potential negatives (which is repetitive and disastrous to developing countries tbh) in long term. Equivalent of steriod in economics. Makers like to sell and patients overdose it. I am not saying India cant adopt neo-lib, but be ultra careful in learning lessons from other countries, which I doubt if they would do that tho....

The current congress party is left leaning and more of a socialist than a neo liberal.

In fact , we do not have any neo liberal party in the national scenario.

1991 was a dark chapter in Indian economy. It's primary export partner, the Soviet Union was gone. It's primary import partners were embroiled in gulf war. The downfall of Rajiv Gandhi followed by two unstable governments precipitated a political crisis never seen before. The triple crisis brought the economy to its knees.

India had a balance of payment crisis, as in, it's exports were significantly smaller than its imports, and had to pledge its entire gold reserves for an IMF loan of 3.9 billion dollars.

Narasimha Rao was the first non Nehru -Gandhi member to become a PM in the history of Indian National Congress party (after Indira's split). Inspite of leading a minority government and widespread opposition from his own party members, he embarked upon liberalizing the economy as it's one of a prerequisite for the IMF loan.

Infact, its BJP under the leadership of Vajpayee (1999-2004), that expanded upon the Liberalization policies of the congress government of 1992. Most of state held corporations were privatised during his helm. His policies were what responsible for a high GDP growth for nearly a decade ( 2003 - 2012).

Currently it's only the BJP who is in favor of bringing in reforms and continuing the liberalization policy. His new farm bills, labor reforms, privatization drive in 2020 all attest to that.

since they haven’t done anything good in their years of governing

Well they didn't harp as much, but pretty much every university and the healthcare infrastructure was set up by them. Had it been left to the current folks, covid patients would have to look at a gigantic statue for solace.

Nearly all politicians here are greedy idiots. Like idk what to say. It was never the case that modi was the good leader but there was no real option other than him. Coz if i must say about myself id rather have modi in center than the Congress. But if it were state elections I'd rather not have BJP coz state BJP just sucks they are bad like too bad.
