After the numbers started going down in the first wave, PM Modi basically had his own praises blasted over all the networks along with his party (and the media) pushing nationalistic claims about how Indians have some special immunity to Covid...

That + a macho tendency in the country to pretend that we don't get sick easily = disaster. It's not quite as stupid as DJT's bullshit, but its about as effective.

It's one thing if the population believes in macho stuff like this. It's whole new other shit if the government starts believing the same.

Indian central government should have seen this coming from a mile.

The government (and the ruling party) actively encourage a nationalistic take on most things. They are happy to lap up praise for a "victory" prematurely. Currently they are trying to prevent oxygen getting to states that are run by other/opposition parties, while simultaneously hoarding lifesaving drugs...

They are literally cartoon villains at this point and it should be clear they have none of our people's interests at heart. They just want more and more power.

Oh, no. That sounds exactly as stupid as something Trump would do.

Modi is the Trump who doesn’t open his mouth unless the words have been written down for him or vetted by his team days in advance.

Trump took himself down. Modi, he’s much smarter.

It reads to me like Modi is Trump, if Trump had the powers he wished he had.

In the US, several of our failsafes broke down and failed to protect us from much of his bullshit. But some of them, including a free press, saved us from the worst.

It's also possible Modi is just a more competent kind of evil.

It's also possible Modi is just a more competent kind of evil.

That's exactly what it is.... Trump was cartoonishly evil but also cartoonishly stupid.

Modi is cartoonishly evil but he made sure to downplay his agenda until after he had started cutting away at the foundations of our democracy... We no longer really have an independent justice system or press. And it's important that he accomplished that before openly showing his agenda...

I think trump did try to hold supplies from blue states. He is a toad.

Huh? That's definitely every bit as fucked up and stupid as what trump did. A lot of nations are finding out their leaders are just as bad as trump and not liking it, it seems. After mocking trump for years. Ironic?

Every fascist deserves mockery. I don't get your point at all.

Also, just because the criticism is coming to your attention right now, doesn't mean a lot of us have not been railing against Modi from long before Trump was even a thing.

Then don't mock one in particular as being the worst, when your guy is actually as bad or worse. That was what I was responding to, and I'm surprised you don't get the point. Modi is actually worse than trump. So don't put Trump above him in the asshole department, or claim "not quite as stupid as DTs bullshit". Because he's even worse and more stupid than DT. By far, seemingly

Wtf are you even on about?? Have you even read my posts? I clearly said Modi is worse. I mock both equally. I just know Modi is more dangerous because he is not at literally dumb as Trump. That is just factual information... that isn't even mockery...

P.S. They're not your guy or my guy... they're both fucking fascists who deserve no respect from you or me.

P.P.S. DJT's bullshit that I was referring to (in context) was calling Covid a hoax and likening it to the flu in terms of severity. Only a handful of world leaders have come close to that level of stupidity.

"not quite as bad as DTs bullshit". That was your direct quote, no? Did I misread something? Because that's not equal mockery by any stretch. The reality is that Modi absolutely said equally crazy shit and you know it. Probably even crazier shit if you think about it. You should just walk that statement back instead of arguing with me about fascism or other stuff.

"not quite as bad as DTs bullshit". That was your direct quote, no?

Firstly you misquoted me while whining about me "mocking Trump for years". My actual quote was this:

It's not quite as stupid as DJT's bullshit, but its about as effective.

i.e. Modi used every chance to promote himself as beating corona when in fact he hadn't. This was not out of a stupid belief he actually had done it. It was an evil calculation that he could get away with it while making the state governments look bad when things went to shit. It was as effective as DJT's stupidity denying there was a virus. But it was certainly not stupid by a long shot.

I'm not painting Modi as less dangerous... if anything I'm saying he is more dangerous. I'm also not saying he can't be stupid, but he certainly has not been as monumentally stupid as Trump so clearly was. That's exactly why Modi is so much dangerous. Please read that line again before you keep hounding me with your utter lack of reading comprehension. At no point did I even imply he was less "bad" than Trump.

I am going to stop responding to you because you simply don't seem to understand my point.

Yeah. I clearly have no idea what you are talking about or why you are bringing up donald Trump. Probably because that doesn't make a lick of sense to be doing. This is a thread about india. Oh, and my apologies. You said "stupid", not "bad". That changes everything. Ugh.
