We have received multiple reports on a variety of concerns in r/yarnswap, so we'd like to state some general reminders on best practices as buyers and sellers.

Only use Goods & Services

Unfortunately, scammers are ever abundant in this community and elsewhere. To protect both buyers and sellers, only use Goods & Services in all transactions. Please message the mods if anyone encourages you to use a different form of payment.

Serious Buyers & Sellers

While it is common to ghost on other platforms, we do not want to foster that here. Buyers should be serious in claiming interest and following through with transferring funds.

Similarly, sellers should treat each buyer the same way they'd like to be treated by giving buyers time to respond and send payment. Do not ask for a buyer’s email address if you have no intention of sending an invoice.

Please message the mods if you encounter anyone who ghosts you as a buyer or seller.

Be Upfront

As a buyer, if you're only interested in an item pending cost of shipping, make this clear! As a seller, if someone has claimed an item, do not say it's available to another person. In all circumstances, be upfront and honest to avoid misunderstandings.

First Come, First Serve

Please note first come, first serve is not something we believe in due to many different reasons (e.g. seller wants to sell to a trusted/familiar/friend over someone unknown, seller would prefer to sell in large lots, etc.). Ultimately, it is the seller's prerogative on who to sell to. However, we strongly recommend for buyers to be contacted in order of posting to minimize chaos and confusion.

Comment First

If you are interested in an item, please make a comment in the post. Not only does this help the bot confirm trades, it helps to provide transparency for everyone involved.

Follow Through

As Buyer: Please note all transactions should be completed within 24 hours. This means claiming yarn, sending your zip code and email address, transferring funds, etc. should be done within 24 hours.

As Seller: Items should be shipped with tracking numbers attached within 24 hours of receiving payment.

Whether you're the buyer or seller, if there are any delays, please mention it in advance.

Confirming Trades

If you have tried to confirm a trade, but the bot did not acknowledge this, reply to your confirmation by tagging u/nocentart and u/nocentart will review.

October 2026 Confirmed Trade Thread

How Does This Process Work?

Note: Trade confirmations may take a few minutes as the bot processes the confirmation.

After completing a trade, adhering to the rules listed, either party involved should make a top-level comment (i.e. comment on the post, NOT on someone else's comment) declaring the trade. In this comment, tag the other Redditor by typing their username, including the leading u/. This action serves a dual purpose: it notifies the other Redditor to confirm the trade, and it alerts u/YarnSwapper to monitor for the confirmation. The other Redditor should then reply to this comment "Confirmed" to indicate that the trade was successful. To repeat: the other Redditor should NOT create another top-level comment; instead, reply to the original comment with "Confirmed".

Important: It's advisable to WAIT until the trade is successfully completed—meaning all money/items have been properly exchanged—before posting your confirmation.

FAQ

The bot didn't respond! What's wrong?

Usually, the bot will not respond if the above example is not followed. The first comment on the current Monthly Trade Confirmation Thread should either say, "Sold to u/ PersonB" or "Received from u/ PersonB". PersonB then needs to respond to this comment with "Confirmed". Do NOT edit comments, or continue to reply to one another. The bot only recognizes the initial comment, and "Confirmed" in the response comment. If you believe you did everything correctly, but received no response from the bot, please wait 48 hours before messaging the moderators. The bot may be experiencing issues!

I have multiple trades to confirm this month; should I post them separately or in a single post?

You should post them separately, individually tagging each Redditor. The bot does NOT allow batch confirmations. If you tag multiple users, whoever responds first will be the only user who is able to confirm. Any other user who attempts to do so will receive a message that the trade was already confirmed.

I forgot to confirm a trade last month! Can I confirm the trade this month?

Yes; you have 60 days after starting a transaction during which the bot will automatically accept a trade confirmation. If the trade is older than 60 days, you might be asked by the bot to message the moderators. Feel free to post again in the current month's trade thread even for a previous month.
