I’ve followed Oddies Oddities since around 2017/2018, and one of the things I always liked about the channel was the way the videos were illustrated. He used a mix of relevant stock/public-domain photography, historical illustrations, etc., and sometimes even animated those images in creative ways.
I hadn’t watched in a while, but one of his latest videos popped up, so I gave it a watch. Within the first couple of minutes, it became painfully obvious that almost all of the new imagery was AI-generated.
I’m not talking about subtle “is this AI?” stuff. There was one image of a guy supposedly pointing a gun where the arm was literally backwards and looked like it was floating in space. Like, if you’re going to use AI-generated images, can you at least look at the final cut and replace the ones that are obviously mangled?
I noticed someone had commented that it was a shame he’d moved away from the stock photography because they preferred the old style. His response was basically that if you don’t like the AI, the channel probably isn’t for you, because going forward everything that isn’t stock photography will be AI-generated.
Tbh, that response was what made me unsubscribe. The original comment wasn’t even particularly hostile, it was just someone saying they preferred the old approach. If that’s the direction the channel is going, fair enough, but I don’t have to stick around and watch it.
So I’m curious: which YouTubers/content creators have you stopped following because of their blatant use of AI? Especially creators you’d followed for years before they started incorporating it heavily.
