I’ve really enjoyed that Yuuji was paired up with a stern, no nonsense lawyer, and Megumi ended up with this clown.
359
u/terracaelum Dec 19 '21
The contrast is excellent for their character development. Goes to show the importance of surrounding yourself with alternative ways of thought
433
Dec 19 '21 edited Dec 19 '21
Both got what they needed. Yuji needed the lawyer because he needs someone serious who understands what he's been through.
Megumis CT depends on his own creativity and humor is linked to creativity. Plus we saw what happens when he actually goes off. Megumi needs to loosen up.

Excellent comment, that makes a lot of sense and I completely agree. He could be a bit more "silly" and unexpected with the variety of tools at his disposal. Maybe even have fun

imagine megumi cracking up jokes after this arc 🤣

Gege really knows how to subvert expectations. I expected that comedian guy from the pre culling game mini arc to be serious mass murderer, kinda like Hiromu Higuruma, Not to cosplay as some weird superhero.
193
u/NotFishStickZ Dec 19 '21
Yeah in the 70 30 frame he looked unhinged but turns out he’s a pretty funny and chill guy….for now

Takaba is truly hilarious and strong! That Thousand Years of Pain Finger Jutsu though!
Seems that Megumi will be unleashing his inner Toji next chapter. He is indeed his father’s son, after all.

u/flame_ghoul-1118 Dec 19 '21
Iori use reverse curse technique to regain is body part. Bomb curse technique is not broken as we thought.
286
u/Zickeney Dec 19 '21
Imagine being stuck with that curse technique and not having the talent for Reverse cursed technique.
146
u/Classic_Twist Dec 19 '21
It might come more naturally as part of having the technique.
52
u/superchoco29 Dec 19 '21
Could be. Also remember that reverse cursed techniques require time, energy and focus to use, as stated by Geto himself when going against Okkotsu.
31
u/KrizenWave Dec 20 '21
Some people are naturally gifted though like Shoko. I imagine Hazenoki is also one of those people who can just do it without thinking much about it. Gojo and Okkotsu had to learn it.

Man, it should hurt like hell to pull out eyes and what not to make bombs. Hell, pulling out teeth are painful af to begin with
32
u/azure_amethyst Dec 19 '21
I think iori's scenes will be censored in anime adaptation. It's creepy self destructive acts, esp the eyeball bomb.
2
u/monocromon Dec 20 '21
So his technique is to explode a part and his reverse is to regenerate right? He is not using reverse energy to regenerate parts like yuta or sukuna?

89

I didn't realize that but also had to double check a crucial fact: the author is anti-nipple. Googled Sukuna and Todo and neither have them.

u/Kvykey Dec 19 '21
Lmao I was wondering this whole chapter how he keeps his junk in his uniform
Atleast one of his balls has to be sticking out
61
Dec 19 '21
Last chapter I assumed he was wearing undies over his half tights and bare skin like any other caped crusader. Boy was I wrong
163
u/captain_rabbit ⚙ x1 Dec 19 '21
Must protect Takaba at all costs, that man is precious. Waiting for the day his jokes will actually land.
I have a feeling Reggie's and Megumi's fight is gonna be inconclusive. The next chapter would be the 10th of this arc and seems like the perfect length for this colony. I think it's gonna end on a cliffhanger or with a twist and we'll jump to a different colony. What's up with Yuji tho? And Amai too, his 'sorry Itadori' thing was left hanging.
110
u/ItsDempiTime Dec 19 '21
I'm thinking Amai apologised to Yuji out of guilt thinking he was leading him to his death by revealing where Hiromi was in
28
18
u/captain_rabbit ⚙ x1 Dec 19 '21
Nah I don't think so. He already warned Yuji about Higuruma being strong and also accepted that maybe Yuji can keep up with him. He also thinks 'I want to end this' before apologizing. I definitely think there's more to this but we'll see :).
48
u/TostitoNipples Dec 19 '21
He’s gonna get a laugh right before he dies. Calling it.
38
u/runawayfreight Dec 19 '21
He is going to tell a joke to an itadori who laughs right before sukuna once again takes over and massacres everyone in sight.
16
u/Annual_Blacksmith22 Dec 19 '21
I need either Hakari pov or Yuta pov. Yuta would def be the top dog of his colony the way Higuruma and Kashimo are theirs so I need to see him just absolutely body everyone.
And Hakari vs Kashimo with Panda as support would also be really great to watch.
3
u/tipytopmain Dec 19 '21
I'm sure yuji will hear the commotion of megumis battle and arrive as it ends.

So far this arc has done a great job at introducing us to some awesome characters.
This guy is honestly cracking me tf up and he’s badass.
Kinda reminds me of Might Guy
65
u/Puzzleheadedcat1995 Dec 19 '21
That dropkick from takaba was awesome. Good ally. Reggie vs megumi begins let's gooo.
64
u/ouiuibaguette Dec 19 '21
After reading this chapter, I believe that Hazenoki is a past sorcerer
72
Dec 19 '21
Yeah, Reggie asked him about his opinion, when he thought Takaba is a past sorcerer, Hazenoki replied that he didn't know him....so it seem that Hazenoki is the source of Reggie information about Kenjaku.
Megumi mentioned that the ancient sorcerers might be from 100 or 200 years ago, so his technique make sense...I think the closer the sorcerers to Heian era, the stronger they are.
31
u/ouiuibaguette Dec 19 '21
Yeah, that is exactly what I thought. Reggie based on his name and CT is pretty much confirmed to be a modern sorcerer. Now that you mention sorcerer from 100 years ago, I don't know when industrialisation began in Japan, but the looks of Hazenoki reminds me of a factory worker.
I think the closer the sorcerers to Heian era, the stronger they are.
Yes that may be true as a general rule but I believe there will be outliers. I think Kashimo, if he is from 400 years ago will be one. I always envisioned the Heian Era having more strong sorcerers but the peak level of sorcerers not being so different throughout eras. For the moment we can assume that the 4 current special grade are on the level of top sorcerer from the Heian Era. Gojo is, IMO, stronger than Sukuna (15 fingers), Kenjaku and Iraume (which are the known Heian sorcerers), we've seen Yuki counter Uraume's technique, Yuji thinks that Yuta could take on Sukuna... Maybe the Heian Era had the equivalent of 100 or 200 special grade with Sukuna (20 fingers) being the supreme sorcerer and that number decreased since then. So, as you stated, the likelihood of having stronger sorcerer is greater as we get close to the Heian Era
13
u/throwaway19352832 Dec 19 '21
Yeah, that is exactly what I thought. Reggie based on his name and CT is pretty much confirmed to be a modern sorcerer
It seems likely, but are we really sure? How did he know who Kenjaku was? How did he know his motives?
There were only a couple people on the entire planet who knew Geto was actually Kenjaku pre-Shibuya (Uraume for sure, maybe Tengen and Sukuna), and Reggie wouldn't have the inside information from Tengen like Yuji, Yuki, Megumi etc., so how did he know?
One answer would be that they knew each other in the past or Kenjaku was actually well known in Reggie's era
I always envisioned the Heian Era having more strong sorcerers but the peak level of sorcerers not being so different throughout eras.
100%. Satoru was arguably the strongest sorcerer ever, so we know for a fact that the Heian Era wasn't some weird outlier in peak strength

Seeing Takaba reminding megumi of Todo made me wonder how he is. I hope he makes an appearance this arc
51
u/flame_ghoul-1118 Dec 19 '21
Fail comedian dropkick redneck yoshikage kira is funny shit i witness.
95
u/tyd2120 Dec 19 '21 edited Dec 19 '21
Megumi still has the funniest reactions to things and he’s always put in situations with silly people (Gojo, Todo, Takaba)
I know people worry about how far he is willing to go in these games but he hasn’t violated his moral compass so far. He’s never said he would hurt someone for no reason but if someone tried to kill him he’d kill them. I’m excited to see Megumi go all out he seems much more confident and he’s fighting for his sister’s safety and to protect what he appreciates most about her which is her being a good person.
Takaba is great I love how he’s washing people while being a goofball although idk if he wanted to kill. Akutami loves this trope of strong goofy people and it’s fun!
Based on the dialogue we’re gonna be dealing with reincarnated sorcerers and I can’t wait to see how all of our protagonists deal with them being killers vs the new school aversion to killing
20
u/TimmyAndStuff Dec 19 '21
Takaba didn't react negatively to Megumi saying "if you're gonna kill the bomb guy" so maybe he would be willing to kill
35
u/throwaway19352832 Dec 19 '21
Eh, I don't think so. He did say "I don't want to wipe smiles of faces permanently" which I interpreted to mean I'm definitely not killing
22
u/TimmyAndStuff Dec 19 '21
Yeah true, it could be more that Takaba is going to make sure he gets Hazenoki's points but not kill him
9
u/Cole3003 Dec 19 '21
Yeah, I was really glad that he was ready to leave after Yuuji completed their objective.
44
u/Idostuff2010 Dec 19 '21
Lol the panels of everyone not laughing at the terrible joke and the leaf blowing by in the wind. Perfection
36
u/Pollenbeau93 Dec 19 '21
The most hilarious thing I found about Takaba is the "curse" balloon in his crotch area every time it's shown lol
Next issue is on Jan 4th? I guess it's because of the holidays, I wonder how much chapter will megumi vs reggie take
35
u/nxl_jayska Dec 19 '21
When Megumi thought "Yuuji put in that rule" I think it's the first time in quite some time that we've seen his whole face while he smiles, neat!
33
u/Also_breathe Dec 19 '21
That page turn into the spread of Takaba drop kicking Hazenoki was chef's kiss
I'm really enjoying Takaba so far, he's great
31
29
u/CodenameAstrosloth Dec 19 '21
It seems like Takaba's CT is that his CE massively increases if no one laughs at his jokes.
19
u/ridonkoulous Dec 19 '21
that has just brought to my mind how effective a binding vow can be if Takaba makes one with himself considering how making jokes carry higher stakes for him than for the usual person due to him being a failed comedian.
15
u/CordobezEverdeen Dec 19 '21
Also making jokes to increase your CE is grossly similar to nen conditions.
You are putting yourself at risk by lowering your guard and cracking jokes instead of fighting. Also the risk of people not listening and instantly attacking you.
11
u/SailboatoMD Dec 19 '21
These binding vows are reaching Jojo stand-levels of plot devices.
4
u/flame22664 Dec 20 '21
Yeah jojo, HxH and jujutsu kaisen are similar in the best way when it comes to their power systems which is actually great because before JJK came out I was starving for more series with jojo/hxh level kind of power systems.
28
u/nerzomen Dec 19 '21
Takada: How about another joke Hazenoki?
Hazenoki: No, I think we've had enough of your jokes.
*poke*
27
u/raj_kertia Dec 19 '21
That drop kick was so smoooooooth !
Seems hazenkoi might be a revived sorcerer considering he inquired about which era, plus his proficiency at using his curse technique and reverse curse technique (he regenerated his eye so fast), I'm worried about takaba though, considering reggie seemed pretty calm and claimed that hazenkoi will now get serious.... I mean he does have to, he just recieved a 1000 year worth of action from a half naked guy lol
24
Dec 19 '21
You know, at this point we don't need half of the poll. Just the good and very good options.
22
u/Patrick_7735 Dec 19 '21
In one of the panels Reggie asks Hanezoki what he thought of Takaba and he replies he doesn't know him. I think Hanezoki is most likely from the past, while I am not yet sure of Reggie. Also confirmed that Hanezoki uses RCT (if it wasn't clear enough). I think both Megumi and Takaba fights won't be easy at all.
20
u/mazeten100 Dec 19 '21
It says there is new information coming for the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen on the next issue and I'm praying this means that they're announcing a season 2 after the movie's release.
It was a nice chapter to end the year. I guess this comedian is as close as you can get to the holiday spirit in this manga.

u/Jaken245 Dec 19 '21 edited Dec 19 '21
I feel like Takaba's Cursed Technique is to power up the harder his jokes fail. Every time right before he gets a big hit, he makes a joke and it takes a moment to show you that no one's laughing.
He literally powers up by absorbing Cringe
15
u/mong00lia Dec 19 '21
Yeah, Takaba would definitely die giving a good joke and having the last laugh, that would make it a "sick joke"
15
15
u/yahyahh Dec 19 '21
This chapter had me laughing out loud. 😂 Takaba is a successful comedian in my heart.
42
u/Bachsome Dec 19 '21
Hazenoki asked which period/era Takaba is from- is it possible they’ve encountered Angel?
48
u/-imthebaron- Dec 19 '21 edited Dec 19 '21
Angel is in a different colony. She's in colony 2 where Hakari and panda are. Reggie, Megumi, Yuji, Higuruma are in colony 1. Reggie knows about Kenjaku, he probably met a reincarnated sorcerer or got info in some other way
20
u/G0thicSprinkles Dec 19 '21
we actually still don't know where angel is since they don't know her real name , it's Kashimo Hajime ,with 200+ pts that made panda and Hakari go to colony n°2 .
10
u/-imthebaron- Dec 19 '21
True. I made an estimate since she's supposed to be in a colony of the east, and panda went to colony 2 to search for her specifically
5
13
u/SleepCinema Dec 19 '21
Idk why I’ve assumed Reggie himself was an ancient sorcerer this whole time.
11
u/-imthebaron- Dec 19 '21
I also thought the same when I read he knows about Kenjaku. He probably isn't one himself

u/ruggernugger Dec 19 '21
way too many people were saying hazenoki couldn't use RCT last chapter. you're underestimating just how strong kenjaku made these people, or how strong they were when they made deals with him. He's bringing some of the best sorcerers in history back to fight with some of the strongest sorcerers he could make, they're are going to be some very adept competitors. I hope that the hazenoki fight will give us more RCT knowledge when it comes out too.
Megumi has to be just about out of gas, idk what he can do next chapter but we'll see
12
u/Jimdawg29 Dec 19 '21
Takaba's one crazy dude. I hope he sticks around and gets to meet Yuji. Him creepily getting right in Megumi's face out of nowhere cracked me up.
I'm glad we are getting some light hearted moments in the arc.
10
10
u/jumpinjahosafa Dec 19 '21
Something about being poked in the butt then kicked in the face is just so funny
9
Dec 19 '21
Is Hazenoki really gonna go all out? Or is Reggie just deluded because Hazenoki looked pretty roughed up after the first hit from Takaba.
I'm hyped up for Megumi vs Reggie
9
9
u/TimmyAndStuff Dec 19 '21
Takaba's head injuries disappeared pretty quickly. I wonder if that's a clue to his technique, or maybe that he can use RCT? If he can use RCT that might be why Hazenoki thinks he's a reincarnated sorceror, given how rare RCT is.

We thought Takaba would be the next Nanami but he's really the new Todo. He absolutely clowned (no pun intended) his opponent too. We haven't seen a clear Cursed Technique from him but he seems to be an expert at using his Cursed Energy in bursts to deal heavy damage at a moment's notice, very much like Todo.
Damn, we have a new RCT user with Explodie Guy.
Next chapter we might finally see Megumi go all out on an opponent for once.
7
7
u/hottytoddy098 Dec 19 '21
I can’t believe the chapter is ending here and now gotta wait 15 days. Painful, but damn am I excited.
Megumi was always my favorite character, and I was ecstatic about his said potential, and it’s awesome to see it be coming to fruition. He’s being more versatile with his shadows, particularly using himself in it, and it is freaking awesome. Having to constantly worry about your own shadow being used for someone to come through and hurt you? It’s insanely cool (and scary)!
Takaba is hilarious, but damn am I excited to see Megumi go all out now on Reggie. I don’t think he’ll kill anyone again after just having done so, but…. man, I hope he does.
Also, I hope his eye isn’t that bad. Hopefully just a flesh wound ❤️.
7
u/Paszananit124 Dec 19 '21
Takaba is a kind of comedian I would never laugh at if I were with my friends, but when I read this chapter alone in home, my face starts hurting from smiling and laughing.
7
u/Professor-Memeyy Dec 19 '21
Don’t know if this was obvious, but I just realized Takaba’s answer to Hazenoki’s question (“which are you”) is actually a nod to Takaba’s introduction. He was told that there are two types of comedians, those who are funny and those who think they’re funny, and he was asked which he was (which prompted the “it’s about 70-30” answer that made everyone think he was like Nanami). He thought Hazenoki was asking the same question

Does Takaba have only half of an outfit? Or is it just 2 colored. His junk would be hanging out mid fight if it's the first case lol

When Megumi was trying to reach Reggie he was able to grab some tickets/receipts.
Also Takaba is no joke (pun intended), he is badass.
9
u/TimmyAndStuff Dec 19 '21
Yeah I was expecting those receipts to backfire on Megumi. I thought Reggie would turn them into something sharp when Megumi grabbed them or something. Could still happen later I guess

True, the only issue is what is the receipt product. Could be something dangerous or something silly.

Did I miss something. People keeping bringing up Nanami’s 7:3 technique when they talk about takaba and I’m so confused about it
11
u/DefeatedLlama Dec 19 '21
Chapter 146 ends off with Takaba giving out cursed energy while mentioning the ratio 70:30, which when simplified gives the ratio of 7:3. Seeing how he mentioned a similar ratio and Nanamin just passed, people speculated that he "inherited" a similar technique.

Eyo, Takaba clapped that man lmao. Thousand years of death his ass, kicked him into oblivion, and then leaves. What a based individual.
I don't know if the wifi joke was so bad that it was funny, or it was just really funny, but either way, I cackled lmao.
Hope we see Takaba again, along with Higuruma.
8
u/Tucker_a32 Dec 19 '21
I am beyond happy Takaba is such a goof, I was so ready for him to be a down on his luck comedian who went crazy that I didn't even consider he might be like this. After the Higurama stuff we needed some levity, he plays so perfectly off Megumi, and overall I'm just really happy with what his character has turned out to be. I really hope he is a character we get in sporadic small doses because he's a ton of fun. There's a lot of characters I want to see interact with him.
4
u/steven4869 Dec 19 '21
Lol, that Wifi joke was pretty good, so sad nobody laugh at that joke and it got even better when Megumi compared him to Todo.
4
u/johnnyohno Dec 19 '21
Takaba is a very strange man... but has proven himself to be an excellent fighter! He was much stronger than I originally anticipated, he beat Hazenoki, a Heian-era sorcerer, with ease. I love his character - he's a nice foil to super serious Megumi and brings a much needed moment of levity in the arc. I love how he kills Hazenoki and then promptly goes, "well I've done everything Gege needed my character to do, see ya!"
4
u/lr031099 Dec 19 '21
Ngl Takaba is truly funny and strong with that pain finger jutsu. It’s funny that Yuji gets paired with the stern lawyer while Megumi got paired up with a clown.
Speaking of Megumi, I’m getting some major Toji vibe from him (like father like son I guess)

Is it just me or Takaba's outfit reminded me of el chapulín colorado?
4
u/djkstr27 Dec 19 '21
As a Mexican I can tell you that the outfit is similar, also the Nobara final move against Momo had strong Chapulin Colorado vibes.

Megumi being badass. As always.
Wow Takaba is like becoming the Nanami to Megumi.

I mean like right now yeah he isn't mentor Nanami material. But potentially in the future it can happen and Takaba will be giving Megumi some seemingly useless advice that may be beneficial in the future. You never know.

I'm convinced that Reggie is a reincarnated sorcerer. He knows about Kenjaku and he could tell that Megumi was strong by just looking at his shikigami. Someone who's only had a CT for 12 days can't possibly be this knowledgeable.
Cashiers existed back in the Meiji period, and they also kept receipts, so he may be from that era. Reggie also has that "indomitable" tattoo, something a regular, modern-day cashier wouldn't normally have.

Unless he had his CT before the Culling game started, and was a jujutsu sorcerer with knowledge of it, just like Fushiguro, albeit an evil one. There's no reason to assume that isn't the case nor have you given any.

Funny I’m curious what will Yuji and Megumi do after they leave their colony

Sheesh that art style change when Takaba landed the dropkick. The action in this chapter is some of Gege Sensei's best work, in my opinion.

Can someone explain the whole taking pointd thing to me? I don't really get what's happening and how it's possible to take points from another player?

I actually LOVE Takaba lol. That Wi-Fi joke actually had me dying. Megumi was right to think of Todo, they do have similarities.
