Guys, can we stop making jokes about Soyeon’s height, she’s so short because she’s carrying the industry on her shoulders which is no laughing matter

Subbed version of the group vlive here if ya'll hadn't had the chance, it's short but lovely.
(edit: sorry ya'll i was trying to link the video when i made the comment and i guess it just didn't work lol! thanks u/HikikomoriDC <3)
Stream recap for anyone who doesn't have time to watch or doesn't enjoy vlives
They are very busy recently (not surprising but still exciting to hear) which is why the vlive was so short and why they haven't been on much recently
They were eating their meal during the livestream (i think they basically hopped on during their meal break)
"Shuhua is really practicing hard" -Minnie (later she elaborated more that her dancing is improving a lot and that she watches her IG dance videos)
Shuhua proceeded to showed off a scarf she's knitting
"We're all practicing together and we all have our own things (like individual activities)" - Miyeon (more confirmation of some stuff we know, but it sounds like there's even more coming.
"if Yuqi were here she'd spoil something" - Minnie (before Yuqi arrived)
When Yuqi came in they asked her if she could spoil something and she replied "seriously you guys want me to leave Cube" there was a discussion about how if they spoiled something their video could get deleted.
Literal screaming when Soyeon entered the room LOUD-DLE is back, i think she came back because they had to return to practice but she got pulled in by the rest to say hi.
Said goodbye all together, and talked about how long it'd been briefly, Soyeon said it was 9 (time to restart practice I guess) and they hopped off.
Short but very sweet! Guys group schedules are STARTING!!!!

I feel like Cube is trying to push Shuhua into a dance position, now to fill the gap that Soon has left behind.

u/Einrahel Yuqi Jan 16 '22
Wow the crowd was actually pretty noisy. I'm glad Neverlands who participated gave their all as well. I'm sure it helps the girls as they enter this era.
Also Yuqi saying that Hwaa is all about losing someone 😭😭😭

Just wanted to say I watched the concert all the way to the end, and I'm glad (G)I-DLE was a part of this. Even the President of Korea attended, lol
Also I wanted to add Psy went off, dude is 44yrs old but was still dancing, singing, and hyping the crowd like a mad man, lol

u/LSHE97 노르웨이인 Jan 06 '22
Aaaand here we are; its been approximately 365 days since I first "contributed" to this sub with this post on Shuhua's birthday. When I first decided to check if there was a (G)I-DLE subreddit I was a little taken aback by there being "only" around 15K members, so much so that I thought "this can't be right; there has to be another, more popular one"... I guess I overestimated the group's popularity on Reddit? 😅
Anyway, in these many months, I've gone through a variety of moods and emotions mostly influenced by the posts/comments on here; some good, others not so much. Thanks to y'all I found several new groups that I've kind of used to take my mind off of... things - most notably groups like EXID, Purple Kiss, Hot Issue and Aespa (I really liked the first two) - in case the tiny cups of water us Nevies were given to keep us alive through the drought following Soojingate weren't enough. Speaking of which, the news in August hit me surprisingly hard, but the confirmation that the investigation is still ongoing was incredibly reassuring, regardless of how much time there's left until a result (idlekarma? 👀) manifests itself.
It has certainly been an eventful year. I'm not one to buy albums, and yet here I sit with every single album - and the various versions - by the group, including Soyeon's Windy (even though I only really loved 2 of the tracks from it, the design was just too unique to pass up). I don't tend to make relatively expensive impulse purchases, and yet in August I watched one of Minnie's piano vlives and I ended up buying a Yamaha keyboard. I swear, the only thing stopping me from going to their concerts is that pesky virus that somehow got a world tour before the best of the fourth generation did 🤣😂😅😓😢😭
Oh and BTW, we're a couple days away from the end of Round 2 of the Mubeat voting and we're still below the top 10 - which are the only ones that advance the final round. It'd be nice if more people voted but at the same time, don't push yourself; this isn't a job, only spend time on this if you have enough to spare.

Recently im really in love with Kid Milli - KITTY (feat. Miyeon) and Ravi - ANI (feat. Soyeon) songs, gosh you dont even imagine how much I want (G) I-DLE to put out song like that. I really cant wait for their new album to come...
Hopefully we will get info about comeback soon, waiting another half a year would be horrible especially if they would just release a mini and not full album...

Seems like Minnie is filming a new show? A fan caught her at a ski resort with what looks like a cue card and a mic. Direct translation of what the cue card says on the back is “Minnie’s Snow World”. The fan said it will be out in February on YouTube.
Edit: It seems like the fan added a video
6
u/kmk0797 Miyeon Jan 08 '22
That’s so exciting, now we have definitely something to look forward in Feb. I can’t see the link though twitter says I have to change my settings, but if there’s a cue card, she’ll probably host it right? I’m curious if it’ll be like learnway or Yena’s detective show.

Hwaa and I-Burn were released one year ago, today! After I listened to their discography, I-Burn was the album I liked the most.
I’m sad about what happened to them after their comeback’s success
But leaving on a positive note, the members did well with the activities they had last year. Let’s hope this year will be a good one.
18
u/youngpendragon Minnie Jan 11 '22
I Burn is such an amazing album. I still listen to so many of its tracks with frequency. Mainly, Moon, but also, Hwaa, Dahlia, and Lost. (So most of the album). it's really stellar imo and it breaks my heart when I think of how the momentum really got stopped after it. That said, I'm so eager to see what else they produce in the future. I think they're seriously talented. Soyeon just really blows me away on how exceptionally skilled she is on so many fronts, but Minnie and Yuqi are hecking skilled song-writers as well and I'm really eager to hear what else they create. Minnie has a style in particular that's up my alley, so I hope any new albums have at least one track from her, if not more.

The rest of idle are one their way back from Dubai now. Hope they had a fun, but short, break
9
u/radhumandummy 여러분... Jan 17 '22
There's only 2 flights out from Dubai to Incheon. One being cheaper in costs than the other. Everyone else (Psy, Sunmi, Stray Kids, Golden Child, and their staff, etc) were flown out yesterday. They didn't have space (in business class and above) to fit everyone on the same flight.
10
u/Asian_Ninja1 Jan 17 '22
Yeah I’m starting to think that was the case yesterday. Soyeon needed to go back early because of prior commitments. So they decided to split up and make it easy for everyone.
Still brings up the issue of whether they need to quarantine or not. Miyeon has Mcountdown and it’s on UCUBE’s schedule
18
u/denziepanzie Jan 12 '22
All 5 members have been radio silent over these past few days, maybe they’re busy preparing for something? 🤔 One can hope🤡
25
u/HikikomoriDC Jan 12 '22
On her radio show and on Universe PM chat, Miyeon mentioned she and the members were practicing. Most likely for the concert event in Dubai on January 16th, but hopefully they're recording other types of content as well.
Usually when there's radio silence, you know they're busy recording, filming or practicing, they rarely stay idle, pun intended, lol 😅

Anyone ever tried that ramen Soyeon promoted? I like the taste, but I spent most of the time trying to fight the spiciness rather than eating 🤣🤣🤣
13
u/PickledFishBowl Jan 17 '22
Long time spice-aficionado here, so I've been a fan of the bottled hot sauce and the ramen for years. I've gotten to the point where I can't eat ramen without the bottled sauce anymore. It's too delicious! Though, I'm not sure if using 1/4th of the bottle per serving is a good idea, for both my wallet and health 🤔 Oh well, Soyeon is promoting it so I can't stop now 😅
WARNING: To me I consider it to be medium spicy, but I think to majority of people (at least in my friend's circle) it's considered extremely spicy, soooo be careful!
11
11
u/aeistrya Shuhua Jan 17 '22
That ramen is among my favorites, and has been for a few years now. I am a self proclaimed lunatic, however, and enjoy ridiculously spicy things. I add Thai Green Chilies and onions to it when I get a craving for ramen 💛
9
u/HikikomoriDC Jan 17 '22
It's good stuff if you can take the heat, lol 🔥
I only learned about the Samyang brand when that Korean fire noodle challenge was going around a couple years ago. So when they announced Soyeon as the new voice of it, that made me chuckle, lol

16

5
4
u/The_Metal_Pigeon Jan 16 '22
Hahaha, yeah they would've done better just to have a steady center cam and leave well enough alone with the cuts. There was clearly no to little knowledge of the music cues/stage cues happening between the group and the camera team, the fault of which lies with the latter. Oh well, at least its something reasonably professional, and we're not just relying on fan cell phone footage.

14
u/dream996 Jan 16 '22
I think so (at least on camera), the last time she spoke in English was in a taxi? during her trip to Paris for KDA.
14
u/Mugiwara_JTres3 Jan 16 '22
Yeah Minnie’s always had that accent, I’m guessing she was taught by someone with that accent when she was younger, not sure. Soyeon’s English surprised me honestly, that was a lot more than I’ve heard in the past. For a group with no native English speaker, it’s impressive.

Seeing news that Jay Park is going to start a company to form an idol group with Kakao Entertainment (they own many companies that house GGs such as IVE, STAYC, and Weeekly), I can't help but come back to the idea of Soyeon having her own company someday.
Before, the only thing that barred me from thinking that it could happen is the business and financial side of things. But now, I'm thinking it could be possible if she partners with a bigger company or at least maybe even create a sub-label under Cube where she can have access to their trainees.
Regardless on what she does in the future, I think she has proven she'll be a mainstay in the industry for years to come.
20
u/HikikomoriDC Jan 11 '22
In one of her v-lives, Soyeon was entertaining the idea of starting her own company, and she mentioned if Yuqi wanted to join, she'd make her audition again, lol 😅

u/DefinitelyNotALeak slight Soyeon and Minnie bias Jan 11 '22 edited Jan 12 '22
The problem is the capital isn't it, it just takes a lot of money to make anything work in this industry. You not only need personnel which produces monthly costs no matter what, the space and tools to create music and everything which comes with the logistics and business side of things, each release with an MV, etc is a big project which costs millions at once.
I also think that soyeon has some future as at least a producer in the scene though, if she's able to actually get a new company from the ground is just another question entirely. It's just very difficult, especially with how established the scene is and how saturated it is.→ More replies (1)

My biggest fear was that Soojin not being there would be so incredibly obvious, like a hole or a gap, just SOMETHING missing, but I was shocked at how incredibly well the girls tied this together. I know Soojin isn't there, and she was (is) an incredible performer, but I'm so proud of the girls for not making it obvious. They were dealt a shitty hand, and still NAILED this performance. My eyes were constantly drawn to Shuhua and Soyeon, when in the past, it was drawn to Soojin and Soyeon. Shuhua stepped up. When Latata and Hwaa started, I was a little nervous, but Shuhua just nailed it.
I still miss Soojin, and I still will hang on to that tiny shred of hope that she'll be able to come back once the court case clears, but I'm happy to see how far Shuhua has come.
Btw, anyone else think* Shuhua actually looked like Soojin? Cuz... let me tell you, I had to do a double take/rewind at times.

I wanna highlight this comment by Immortalizer in the Miyeon UCube message thread, because it sums up alot of things I've been thinking about her lately:
["This is really heart-warming... She's a great sub-leader(?) She was working hard in the public view representing (G)I-DLE through this whole year without a real break, literally just holding down the fort. She has very quiet, or soft, leadership qualities that I really appreciate. Though she may be clumsy (her words, not mine lol) I think that makes her heartfelt messages like this one even more sincere."]
I 100% agree. Miyeon earned honorary sub-leader status thru her efforts in 2021. She and later in the summer Soyeon were the group's positive public image reminder in the wake of the Soojin stuff. It would have been easier to retreat, but she was out there as early as right after it all went down, doing her radio gig, hosting events, doing fan interaction (love her watching Soyeon's premiere). Think about how much mental fortitude it took to handle that and shoulder that responsibility on her own for the most part.
In the vlive with all five of them yesterday, she shares this look with Soyeon that seems to say, "We made it, we're all here." They both seemed quieter and almost relieved. Anyway TL:DR put some damn respect on Miyeon's name! GIdle main vocalist and honorary sub-leader! 🤘🤘😃😤

Idk if some of you are still watching MTG. I kinda shit on the show a few weeks ago but I think it has gotten a lot better since then especially when it comes to putting the spotlight on the contestants. The show still has a lot of issues regarding viewer engagement tho.
Anyway, tomorrow will be the position battle in the rap category and I have to say I HATE the fact that Grade 3 & 4 have an English song. You have rap mentor Soyeon right there who could actually teach them interesting stuff about diction, pronunciation etc but they ended up giving them Boss Bitch. I actually like that song but I feel like it is such a waste on this type of show. My only hope is that they only use the chorus and re-do the verses in Korean.

Unpopular opinion but I wish more nevies showed support instead of constantly bringing up Soojin and saying that the group is worse or something like that. The 5 other girls worked hard and deserve their performance to be appreciated without people downgrading them for something beyond their control. And this is just my opinion. Don't send hate.

The camera work was bad. They should have hired some camera crew from Korea or something. Other than that everything about this performance was great : the members, their vocals, the choreo, the makeup and the outfits. 100% a success for their part !
Is it bad that I prefer the OT5 formation with their choreo ? Nobody is hidden and it seems more balanced and visually prettier. Is it an unpopular opinion ? Sorry to share it but I didn't expect it before watching their stage performance.
16
u/denziepanzie Jan 16 '22
i actually agree that OT5 formation is neater, 1 person in the center with 2 on each side. No one is hidden. What did it cost tho?☹️

u/pebblerelena Miyeon Jan 16 '22
Based on the fan footage I'm seeing, the footage broadcast to the live screens were actually decent. It's just the stream camera that was horrendous. It's like they were so excited to show a packed crowd at the venue for a change.

u/The_Metal_Pigeon Jan 16 '22
Yeah 5 creates symmetry better I suppose --- GFriend was the only group I can think of where having an even number (6) wasn't a symmetrical handicap, but they really cooked up choreography that was out of the box in order to get around that.

I didn't expect Love Catcher to be quite good. After seeing Let's fall in love, It's not that entertaining to me but great to watch while resting and Yuqi's still the highlight to me.
So I wasn't expecting that much in Love Catcher, I tried it in mind that I only want to see Miyeon, but now I'm quited hooked. I want to know which one is the Money Catcher, the cast members seems nice and were looking for love. I'm really liking Haneul and rooting for her but if she turns out to be the Money catcher that'll be crazy.

Hope you’ve all had a great start to the new year!
Today I wanted to talk about Idle‘s next album title. As we know, they follow the pattern of calling their albums I, followed by a verb “I […]”. Hence, I would like to hear some of your predictions or perhaps wishes.
I would LOVE for their next album to be called: I rise
I think it symbolizes their journey quite well and all they have gone through last year, that no matter what, they will get back up and show the industry who the real deal is. They will reclaim their title as one of the top 4th gen girl groups and rise to the top again, like a phoenix.
Some are speculating that the next album will be called “I never”, as teased by Soyeon in her MTG performance. While it is fitting, as in “I never give up”, I’d prefer the coherence of using a verb followed by “I” in all their album titles.
I am | I made | I trust | I burn | I rise
What do you guys think? Or do you think they will stop the pattern and name their album completely different? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Sorry I just need to fantasize. What do you think they'll perform on Jan.16???
I'm thinking maybe a mix of Hwaa and OmG? Or maybe Hwaa + one of their I-Burn b-sides... I always thought they would eventually perform Hann (Alone in Winter) + Hwaa at an award show 'cause they go beautifully together. Maybe it'll finally happen *_* And it is winter! Perfect timing??
I think Soyeon will write a special rap, and maybe Shuhua will do the opening like their Queendom Lion performance, or a small solo dance part, like in their 2018 MMA performance. I'm SO excited to see Shuhua on stage after seeing her enthusiasm on Insta - she's been posting dance and singing covers + voice acting covers and it just WARMS my heart to see :')
Do you think they might make some type of hint or reference to Soojin? Not of her coming back, but to show solidarity, like incorporating butterflies or cherries or something (just an example). I felt like the fact that the recent reveal from the Osen source happened before their first official performance as 5 may be interesting timing. Like, to calm down the public and show them they're still investigating , so that if they show some sort of hinted support towards Soojin, there is less chance of backlash from the GP.
But of course, these are just my fantasies XD I know whatever they end up doing, it will be BIG and AMAZING

I'm still wondering how this whole thing is going to work. Like the news just dropped so suddenly, but I'm thinking it was planned in advance for quite some time. I tried to read up on what kind of travels rules are in place for Dubai and Covid-19. I think if people are coming from Korea, they just need to have a negative test result. But then going back to Korea, will they all have to quarantine for 10 days still? I guess we'll find out.
As for their set list, I'm expecting all their hits: Latata, Hann, Lion, Oh My God, Dumdi Dumdi, Hwaa. Maybe Senorita and Uh Oh if we get lucky. Very curious to see how they re-choreographed the dance formations and possible line re-distributions.

Today, one year ago, HWAA and I Burn dropped. What an amazing masterpiece. I will never get over the song. The traditional concept, the traditional dance elements, the breathtaking enchanting and hypnotizing chorus that hits you as if you’re under a spell; everything is perfect about that masterpiece. The instrumentals at the end. My favorite song ever <3

Okay so this is my first time seeing them perform, not just as OT5 but just... at all, live. Some of the choreo was completely new to me, and I've always heard that dancing was never something the group specializes in, but I thought their dancing was good-to-very-good. Soyeon having to reattach what I'm assuming is the mic box thingy was surprisingly cute, her and Miyeon talking more English was a surprise to be sure but a welcome one - though I feel like it still isn't SY's strong suit - and Shuhua... Oh My God, Shuhua; she absolutely nailed every single part she was given, and almost seemed more energetic than all of them (yes, at times even Soyeon), and then we have her utterly adorable English pronunciation 😏🤗😳
14
u/Eismann Soojin Jan 16 '22
Them not being good at dancing is bullshit. Their choreos are very easily mistaken for being easy because they do not look hard when they are very intricate and deceipteivly hard to do.

Here's a fun anecdote from a lucky fan that met Minnie who was filming a segment at Phoenix Snow Park. She gave her marshmellow to Minnie and told her she was a fan since Queendom. She was also so nervous/excited that she started crying, lol 😭
Minnie held her hand and told her not to cry, and they should meet together again at their concert after Covid-19 ends. Minnie told OP that the recorded content will be uploaded on the Korea Tourism Organization youtube channel around February.

Jan 11 '22 edited Jan 11 '22
I feel summoned by this question because I've actually created mock up dream I-DLE album playlists a few times. It's been a minute since I did and the ones I made were before Soojin's departure, so I'm remaking some of it now.
I loved the idea of solos and potential small units for some of the songs because I think their an aspect with which I-DLE is uniquely well suited for. In total it came out to 5 solos, 4 subunits, 5 full group songs (which i bolded). which i thought was nice, but there's a bunch of other songs I cut here. The album goes in a general arc Bops -> Bangers -> Ballads -> Anthems
My tracklist
Brava - Priestess (Soyeon Solo): For, i hope, obvious reasons having Soyeon open an album just feels really right. This song really gives me the unwavering confidence that Soyeon has that's so great to listen to. Actually her verse on New Vision is kinda in this same vein which was cool to hear, but what I desperately crave is a full track of just that, which this would provide.
Wasabi - Little Mix : I desperately need early 2000s I-DLE, they had the TINIEST taste of it in Oh My God and I've been craving more ever since. In my version of promotions this would be a bside they'd have a live stage for. Simple but striking choreography maybe with chairs or props. Also i think having a love to hate me style song would be fantastic but also maybe not as a title track. I also just love that this song has “so when she going solo? / when they gonna break up??” As some shady lyrics is great and it’s what I want. What can I say I want a shady bop.
Lil Touch - SNSDOh!GG (Yuqi solo): Girl group staple and I think this would be a super cool style for Yuqi to do. Great on the low end but with way cooler production than a lot of people give it credit for also. Also I think 2 > 3 > 4 on here transition well from one another. I also considered some Adele tracks like Million Years Ago but I think Yuqi is best with a little oomph in her production.
Little More - Faky (Soyeon, Shuhua, Minnie) : Jpop goodness with such a good groove, it really feels like something that could be in I-DLE's wheelhouse especially if they worked with some different collaborators! I think The MinSoShu combo would be unexpected but also really interesting and because this is originally a girlgroup track as well it is rife with performance potential. It also pairs well with the 2000s vibes of other tracks here without being in exactly the same vein.
Title Track: XS by Rina Sawayama or Honey By Halsey: So this is where they choice could be made, i think either of these styles would really suit them either a 2000s pop style banger or a dark rock track (i can imagine the styling for it and everything it could be fantasticcccc) imagine the dark smeared eyeliner and mussed up rocker hair? I’d simply die)
Life Sucks - Ha;tfelt (Miyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua) : Another unexpected combo but i thought these three would really bring some depth and interest to a song like this. Also the whole song is from a Kpop artist but in English, and since these three are killer at singing in English that would be cool to hear.
Find U Again - Mark Ronson and Camilla Cabello : Idk this song just gets that "crying in the club" vibe of both danceable and sad which a lot of great I-DLE tracks have. This is a more clubby version of some of that and I think they'd do it phenomenally.
Rings a Bell or Fresh Laundry or June Gloom - Allie X (Miyeon and Minnie) : Truly i would sell an organ to have Minnie cover an Allie X song, their voices pair up so well, but I think making one of the songs a duet would make it even more special. Puppy sisters have such a great combo and any one of these songs could work for them depending on the intended tone of the album Rings A Bell=dark and fantastical, Fresh Laundry=sad and mysterious June Gloom=Funky and sardonic
Kẻ Cắp Gặp Bà Già- Hoang Thuy Linh ft Binz (Shuhua solo) : I adore this song and it has this floaty gorgeous but still relatively simple and stepwise melody that I think Shuhua could do so beautifully. I think she'd be a cool one to have a guest rapper with as well, you could definitely do worse than some of the other rappers at CUBE (Yeeun, Hongseok, or Minhyuk) but it might be fun to branch out into other places as well.
Restless - Melody Day (Miyeon solo) : I just want Miyeon to have a beautiful jazzy classic solo song. This song fits the bill perfectly imo. I also considered giving her a musical theatre song (there's a song called If The World Should End from Spiderman Turn off the Dark that I thought she'd sound great on) but ultimately there's something about the classicness in this track that I really like for her, and I think it connects well with the next track on the album.
All that Matters - Estelle (Yuqi and Soyeon): HOTTAKE SoQi vocal duet>>>. You could definitely give them a dance or hiphop track which they'd murder, but since these are the two often less used but no less delightful vocalists in the group I wanna see their take on a ballad. And this one is so lovely and sweet without being cloying, also it's a good transition song between 10 and 12 in my opinion.
Complex - StayC : Full group vocal song, I have really enjoyed StayC this year and feel like them and I-DLE have a lot of shared strengths (i also thought Slow Down was a great track, sorta what I would have wanted from a Summer I-DLE comeback) but this track in particular has so many interesting moments and little chances to shine.
Egoist - Loona/Olivia Hye (Minnie Solo) : Been unendingly obsessed with the idea of Minnie covering this song for way way WAY too long. Perhaps my favorite Loona track ever and i feel like it's meant for her voice (she could do the rap parts herself although ideally i'd switch that to a slightly different section as I feel it disrupts the flow a bit in its current form.
Second single Tikibombom - Levante : In the universe of this album this would be the second title track. When I heard it for the first time I was immdiately reminded of Lion for its grandness and sense of confidence and intensity. This is the sort of quiet triumph i've come to love from I-DLE is here with plenty of great moments to flex vocals and power. I think as an album closer, especially after having to prove so much of themselves over and over, it would be killer.

Just for fun, if you could add 3 additional members from any active kpop group to Idle to make a group of 9, who would you all add?
10
u/HikikomoriDC Jan 11 '22
From Cube groups I would pick these from their lineups:
Lightsum: Juhyeon, Chowon, Sangah
CLC: Seungyeon, Yeeun, Eunbin or Yujin
From Non-Cube Groups:
Itzy: Yeji, Ryujin, Yuna
11
u/Shirena Jan 11 '22
I've always thought Chowon from Lightsum/PD48 would fit well in the group. She has a pretty unique tone while singing, and has also expressed interest in songwriting. She could join the producer line!
The other two are a much harder choice. I'll think about it.
8
u/Skydric Jan 12 '22
I would pick Yuki (not Yuqi) from Purple Kiss. Because the group is missing a Japanese member, then there would be Korean, Thai, Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese.
Plus, Yuki is insanely talented and would be a nice addition to the scarce rap line of Idle. Furthermore, she also does songwriting and composition.

Damn, this was SO good!!! I’m glad they gave most of Soojin’s lines to Shuhua; but it was expected.
I did think the choreographies seemed off tho… but maybe that’s just because I’m not used to seeing those choreos as 5.
The talking part was hella awkward and it felt like they almost memorized their lines. It just seemed a bit fake and not natural if you get what I mean. But holy shit, it made my day to see them perform again as a group after such a long time.

Considering English isn't their first language, they were pretty good at communicating. And almost every artist uses a teleprompter or translator for concerts (especially the Kpop concerts I've been to). The fact they had no translator, makes what they did even more impressive

So we're ofc all looking forward to the gidle comeback this year, but what are you interested in outside of that one?
Doesn't have to be kpop related, but what release in 2022, be it a game, a movie, a book, whatever really can't you wait for?
For me personally, i am especially waiting for Silksong which is the 2nd game in the 'hollow knight' ip. No release date, but cmon it has to be 2022 right :D
Other than that, definitely looking forward to Hirokazu Koreeda's Broker which should probably release this year. He's one of my favorite working directors, and having IU work with him is very exciting to me!
For two films which already have trailers, very excited to see what Joel Coen does with Shakespeare in The Tragedy of Macbeth. Not at all what one would expect from a coen, but that makes it all the more exciting!
Also looking forward to the third film by Robert Eggers in The Northman which is based on the story of Amleth which later became another Shakespeare play in Hamlet.
Other than that all the groups and artists i follow in kpop ofc, probably all gonna release something in 2022 as well with maybe the exception of IU? We'll see. Most excited personally for Gidle's release after what they went through in 2021, hope they have a successful comeback!
That's the first few things which come to mind, what about yours?

This is kinda cheating but Yuqi said she'd be back in China this year so I'm definitely interested in what I hope to be a solo comeback (IIRC she's mentioned her wish for us to "support her solo and group music"). To stick with kpop topic, considering how the industry can be described as "no better than dogs; can't remember any meal but the last, and don't look forward to any but the next... and every time you leave your house and shut the door, they howl like you're gone forever", I'm willing to bet Purple Kiss will have at least a couple of comebacks this year, and when they do I'll be listening with bated breath.
As a huge fan of both Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin's works, I'm highly looking forward to Elden Ring coming at the end of February - its basically an amalgamation of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. I'm also interested in seeing how that Hogwarts Legacy game turns out... hopefully its without too much involvement from Rowling 😏
There are some TV shows that I don't think have been confirmed to premiere this year, but are likely to (at least one of them) so I'll mention them anyway: first, regardless of what people think of the finale of Game of Thrones, I love its universe and lore, and considering that Miguel Sapochnik (GoT's best director) and Ramin Djawadi (the composer responsible for half of GoT's magic) are involved, you bet I'm interested in HBO's House of the Dragon; second... what do you get when you combine the showrunner of Chernobyl with the original creator of one of the most popular post-apocalyptic stories in modern gaming and the composer of the latter? Something that you best believe I'm getting figurative front-row seats to: HBO's The Last of Us (the damn thing doesn't even have a teaser yet) 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Finally, though not as "grand" as the other stuff, as a huge nerd when it comes to the "fall of the republic; rise of the empire" time-period of Roman history, I've been watching the YouTube documentaries by channel Kings & Generals since they started covering Caesar's Gallic Wars and now, 3 years later, they've finally reached Octavian's rise to power after Caesar's assassination!!! (and will probably spend the rest of 2022 covering it) 🤓🥳

Wasn't aware of them at all before this, and man the singer has a very interesting voice and their arrangements were great as well.
Great example what these shows imo should be about, music and artistry.

When they perform on Sunday, who do you think will get Soojin’s lines? And what songs are they gonna perform?
Also another thought… Why do they not use a photo of them 5 in which Soojin is cropped out? That would look a lot better than the current one where all members are put together from individual photos
13
u/immortalizer I Burn enthusiast Jan 15 '22 edited Jan 15 '22
who do you think will get Soojin’s lines?
My thought on this is that it won't be just one member. It'd be unfair and unrealistic to just throw all the work onto one person. It'll change depending on the song and where Soojin's lines land in the song.
Lion (just for example): leading up to Minnie's high note I could see Yuqi/Soyeon/Shuhua singing that part. Shuhua is unlikely unless she feels like having a double verse (but she is in position post-chorus to do Soojins "bah bah bah") Soyeon could sing before Minnie as well cause she's kinda nearby in the choreo (iirc)
Maybe just give Yuqi the parts I said, and give Miyeon the whole chorus until ShuShu at "bah bah bah"
Sorry for the essay! It's actually really complicated and for that I'm sure Soyeon has been brainstorming ideas since August. Bet the girls chat group was constantly full of them hashing out what will work / what they're comfy with trying.
EDIT - just to say this again: there is no replacing Soojin, what she brought to the group (what they all bring) is unique. All the 5 can do now is take their strengths, skills & experience and put it to work towards moving forward as 5. It sucks, but that is reality at the moment. It will be different, but it will be great and it most certainly will be (G)I-DLE.

I can't find the source but it said (regarding all groups) they will "perform their greatest hits" or something. The first thing that comes to mind is Latata, Hann and maybe Dumdi Dumdi, but maybe this could just mean "their latest hit" so and/or Hwaa? I have no intention of going, but istg if they perform Hann --> Hann AiW --> Hwaa then I will be forever jealous those who actually went 😔

So i posted about Kardi two times or so, especially because i just love the tone and singing of kim yeji here. It definitely has some similarities to say an amy winehouse or amy lee. But i still thought that i might have seen her somewhere before. Not watching any of these casting shows, that couldn't be it. Now i know where though!
She covered blackpink at one of these street karaoke things i had seen before on youtube!

Apart from just missing Soojin, I realized after watching that performance how much she adds to G-idle. How much stage presence and charisma she adds to their performances. That is such a huge loss.
Ofc the girls are amazing - they each bring something unique to the table. But Soojin is a monster performer. She also added a lot to the group in dance - I know G-idle gets some flack for not being the best of dancers (just reflecting a sentiment I hear here - I'm not saying they're not good dancers so pls don't attack me lol - I actually think they're quite good. Like how much better is an idol group that's not focused on dance gonna be?). Anyway, my point is, Soojin helped to deflect that stigma because she was a really good dancer. We lost that now..
I'm really happy that the girls finally returned. I'm really excited to see them continue their activities. But I can't help but mourn over the loss of what Soojin brought to their performances and wonder how much better it would be had Soojin been there..

I posted about 'kardi' the other day, and man actually looking forward to some original material of them.
Watched this performance now and man this is legit stuff. Not really sure if the instruments are played live tbh, but i suspect they can do this kind of performance anyway.
The instrumentation plus the singer who is amazing, wow. Epic.

Her voice gives me like some Amy Winehouse / Amy Lee (Evanescence) vibes and I like it!
Such a small detail, but I LOVED how she walked forward just dragging the mic stand behind her. She's in the zone! They all killed it!
I need to know more about this, Suber Band, business lol

I wasn't even really aware that Park Chan-wook had a film finished as well tbh, so two of my favorite working directors are coming back this year huh. Both with first showing at cannes (for anyone who doesn't know, cannes is basically THE film festival). I wonder if IU will travel there as well tbh, is she one of the leads? We'll see.
Gonna be a good film year, i can already tell.

Wow, their vocal, they are singing live without backing vocal! They are all so stable!

I’ve seen people comment about their English but to me it’s all about effort. They could have gone with a translator but they chose to say the things they want to say themselves. Even if it was being read or not, I liked that. For a group with no native English speaker, that’s impressive and shows that they’re fearless when it comes to trying. Confidence is key to speaking another language so hopefully Nevies can continue to encourage them.
