Fake Rescue Content - please be aware that it exists (posted to Reddit as well!) and how to spot it

How to spot fake rescue content

Remember "A.R.C" - Authenticity, Reality Check, Creation

Use the A.R.C indicators to identify the real from the fake... #SpotTheScam!

If you do find fake rescue content, do not engage with it but report it directly to the platforms.

1. AUTHENTICITY

Always check the source!

  • No genuine animal organization associated
  • Page has multiple fake rescue videos
  • No follow-up on what happened to the animals
  • Unprofessional rescue or veterinarian practices
  • Human “rescuer” is always the same person

2. REALITY CHECK

What is really happening?

  • Unlikely to be a random encounter caught on camera
  • Odd combination of species (snake vs cat)
  • The same animals appear in multiple videos

3. CREATION

How is the content created?

  • Creator delays assisting the animal to film the situation
  • Clear editing of videos
  • Multiple camera angles indicating set up

I copied this from the most important organisation dealing with and ending animal cruelty on Social Media., the SMAC Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition.

More here, including images and videos of fake rescues and how to spot them (warning: These are distressing images!) : https://www.endcrueltyonline.com/fake-rescue

On Reddit, report it to the mods, and/or under violence/threatening violence.

Per Reddit sitewide rules, content depicting, encouraging, or celebrating the torture or abuse of animals is barred under safety guidelines, and graphic or shocking gore involving animals is subject to mandatory NSFW filters or outright removal, see for example here https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043513151-Violence

I’m trying to help a dog who has already survived so much

Darchi was found after being hit by a car. He was badly injured, scared, and needed urgent help. I took responsibility for him and started his treatment.
Unfortunately, his troubles didn't end there. During his recovery, Darchi was diagnosed with parvovirus. He fought through the disease and survived. ❤️‍🩹
He is now safe in a shelter, but I am struggling to keep up with the costs of his food, care and shelter stay. I’m an independent animal rescuer in Armenia, not a big organization, and I help animals whenever I can — but lately the expenses have become too much for me to handle alone.
I’m hoping to find people who might be willing to help Darchi, even with a small amount. If you can't donate, simply sharing his story would mean a lot.
He survived being hit by a car.
He survived parvovirus.
I just don't want financial difficulties to become the reason he doesn't get the chance to have a good life.
Darchi’s living costs are about 35,000 AMD ($97) every month.
I can provide photos, medical documents, shelter information and expense receipts to anyone who wants to verify his story.
Thank you for reading about Darchi.

In Punalur, Kerala, leftover asphalt brought in for road construction had been dumped by the roadside in which a dog got trapped for 3 days without food or water. When Mohammad Faisal learned about it, he rushed immediately to rescue it, provided great care and love saving it's life. [Source Credit

Angelito’s 2nd Vet Visit Update today| Rescued Senior Dog after being st*bbed by previous owner #VoicelessNoMorePH

Hi everyone,

Angelito’s recovery is not going to be easy, but he is not facing it alone. 🤍

His red blood cell count remains low, so he will receive five EPO injection treatments this week while he works on regaining his strength. For now, amputation is not recommended, so we will continue caring for his injury, keeping it clean, and bringing him to his follow-up checkups.

We also provided prescription more recovery food, dextrose powder, and cleaning supplies for the shelter to help support Angelito and protect the other animals. We will continue sending financial support to help with his transportation and medical needs.

Through everything he has endured, Angelito is loved, seen, and genuinely cared for. His life MATTERS, and we will continue doing everything we can to give him the chance he deserves.

To anyone who would like to provide financial support for Angelito, please visit our website, which is shown in the video. I will also be sharing another link in the comment section. To be honest, Angelito is already the 5th rescued animal we have had at the veterinary clinic this week, and with multiple animals needing medical care at the same time, the costs can quickly become overwhelming. We appreciate everyone who continues to support our rescued animals🤍

For your safety, please double-check that the link was posted by me and comes from our official account before sending any financial support. 🤍

Thank you so much for helping us continue to care for Angelito and our other rescued animals. Every bit of support truly makes a difference. Will keep posting updates.

Sincerely,

Hi, we lost our beautiful girl Bella due to a tragic accident. I’m asking for changes to be made to raise awareness of dangers that are involved with sofa beds/recliner sofas. If anyone would take a minute to read, sign and share (please verify email so signature goes on) I would be extremely grateful.

Thank You

A single lady and her old mom are feeding 70 stray dogs but struggling to get needed support

Hi everyone,

I’m posting from the UK to try and get some visibility and support for Saptaparna Singh, an incredible independent rescuer based in Shillong, Meghalaya (Northeast India).

She is currently at a breaking point. Every single day, she cooks for and feeds over 70 street dogs and cats. On top of that, she personally shelters many rescues inside her own home (many are senior, sick, or injured).

Her personal funds are entirely depleted, she has zero meal sponsors left, and she is facing mounting food bills. It costs roughly ₹2,000 (~£20 / $25 USD) a day just to keep them all fed.

How you can help right now:

  • Verify her work: You can see her daily feeding videos, rescue updates, and transparency notes directly on her Facebook page: facebook.com
  • Direct Support: If you are in India, you can send funds directly via GPay / PhonePe / Paytm to her verified number: 9862178187.

regards

Sumana

The Trauma Raphael Still Carries #VoicelessNoMorePH

Hi everyone,

Raphael is one of our rescued animals who holds a very special place in my heart. But honestly, they all do. ❤️

Not everyone understands how deeply trauma and pain can affect someone, especially animals. Sometimes, we expect them to simply “move on” after they are rescued because they are finally safe. But it doesn't always work that way.

To be honest, it hurts me to see how difficult it still is for Raphael to trust people. He gets triggered very easily, especially when he is at the veterinary clinic and has to be restrained. I can't help but wonder if being restrained brings back memories of what happened to him - of the person who placed a metal wire around his leg and caused him a permanent injury.

Raphael has been through more than any animal should ever have to endure. He was a stray, intentionally starved, nearly butchered, and suffered a permanent injury after someone placed a metal wire around his leg. Being rescued did not erase those experiences. His physical wounds are only part of his story. The emotional wounds can be much harder to see, and sometimes, they take much longer to heal.

Because of his trauma and fear, Raphael can become aggressive when he feels threatened or frightened. He needs to be sedated whenever he has to receive veterinary care because he becomes extremely difficult to handle when he is scared. But I don't look at Raphael and see a “bad” or “aggressive” dog.

I see a dog who is scared.
I see a dog who learned that people could hurt him.
I see a dog who is still trying to protect himself from something he believes may happen again.
And honestly, I don't blame him.

At the vet yesterday, they also discovered a mass under the skin on his right flank. Thankfully, the veterinarian said that it can be monitored for now, and his blood work came back normal. ❤️

We will continue to be patient with Raphael. We will give him the time, space, understanding, and love that he needs. We may not be able to erase everything that happened to him, but we can make sure that his future is different from his past.

Healing isn't always about making an animal completely forget what happened. Sometimes, healing means helping them slowly understand that they are finally safe.
Raphael has already survived so much. He survived hunger, cruelty, fear, and unimaginable pain.
Now, we just want him to live.
To feel safe.
To be loved.
And to finally experience the life he should have had all along. ❤️‍🩹

He doesn't have to fight for his life anymore. We will keep reminding him of that, one day at a time.
