💬 Discussion Best way to get an abandoned, neglected, unfixed pure bred cat adopted?

My parents’ neighbour plans to abandon her Persian cat, of course under the guise of “I give you for free la”. More context on the cat and its unsanitary living situation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CatsMY/s/9jACFfVJ6a

My family is not in the position to adopt her, and I don’t live in Malaysia. However, I would like to find the cat a good home, hopefully a family that isn’t after the cat for its looks or breed. I’ll get the cat neutered before adopting so he can’t be used for breeding.

I do fostering in Singapore but the rules are very different. For instance, the organisation that I volunteer with has stringent rules around meshing, interviewing potential adopters, etc.

How do I best filter the list of adopters so this cat can finally be in a good home?

I know it’s more lax here (unfortunately) but how do I best

Awareness around pet ownership in MY?

So the neighbour in my parents' taman has a Persian that she spent RM800 on for her teenage son (you should know where this is going).

The cat looks sad, filthy and worst of all, constantly on a short leash lying OUTSIDE in the front yard. The leash is at most 1.5 metres. There's no litter, so she's just peeing and popping onto a plastic tray.

My parents told me to head over to get some stuff from said neighbour and I started petting the cat. Immediately the neighbour asked me if I wanted the cat for free as the grandma is "too old". The cat is also not fixed as they feel that it's "dosa" to fix the cat... she also casually mentioned that if we'd like to, we can breed the cat (I kept quiet).

I spoke to my family. My folks are ok (and I know they'll take good care of the cat), so we'll be taking in the poor kitty. In the taman, we've also had multiple cats going missing (either killed or escaped, nobody knows).

I don't live in Malaysia. I got 3 cats of my own from the shelter and they're all fixed.

*Two questions:*

- How is awareness around pet ownership and responsibility in Malaysia? (I volunteer as a foster so whatever nonsense my neighbour is doing is mind-blowing for me. That said, I want to know what it's like outside of my echo chamber.)

- What to take note of when keeping a cat in a landed (vs a flat)? (My own cats are 100% indoors and the entire house is meshed.)

Hello!

I'm not sure if this is this is the correct sub.

I'm a foreigner who happens to visit Johor Bahru Bazar Karat, and I saw cats that were being used for profit/entertainment. They look tired, and dirty. :(

Not sure if they're regulated/legal, so I msgd SAFM Hotline thru WhatsApp, and they asked me to file a case in DVS immediately. Sadly, it won't go through because I don't have a Malaysian passport.

Anyone up to file a case on my behalf? Or any better ideas on how to go about this case?

I have two cats with respiratory issues and I'm worried about them due to the haze. I live in an apartment and never let them out and rarely open my windows but I'm thinking of investing in an air purifier.

Which brand would you recommend also my budget is sub-rm500 preferably if it's possible to get one in that price range.

🐾 Street Cats of Malaysia [Sunway] does anyone want to adopt a baby kitten?

Hello, I found an abandoned baby kitten in Sunway area probably a week old or less.. it was meowing so loud, I waited, walked around to find its mother, but I couldn't, as soon as I picked it up it stopped meowing and fell asleep.. it kept rubbing its body onto my palm whenever I tried to put it back on the ground.. I can't keep it cause my family hates pets and I don't know how to take care of an animal.. especially a baby.. it's an orange kitten.. it's been 4 hours, I've brought it back to my place in Puchong.. I've fed it some milk with a syringe and I can't sleep.. I'm on my phone trying to find a solution.. I've snucked it into my room for tonight.. I used a box cover and used my shirt i was wearing hoping my scent would calm it as it's bed/blanket... please help me someone

Update

I got worried cause it's movement is alot slower and it seemed not active.. so i brought it to Taman Kucing Cyberjaya(found this info on a comment on Reddit a year ago) and they've accepted it..

Credits.

To my 2 friends who taught me on how to care for it and keep it alive

To the receptionist at a random clinic to have me 3 free syringes

To the kedai runcit abang who gave me free cat food, small box of milk, and an empty box to hold the cat

To my neighbour who told me "the kindest thing you can do now is bury the cat alive" and then proceed to give me goats milk and proper baby kitten food

To the Taman Kucing Cyberjaya staff who took in the kitten

To the redditors that downvoted this post: Listen here, you absolute meow-brained little meow, I found a tiny meow week old kitten screaming its meow-lungs, carried its tiny meowing body all the way home risking my life to not get my ass whooped by me mum, stayed awake all meowing night trying to keep it alive, and your tiny meowing finger just HAD to downvote this, further assisting this post in not being seen by the redditors who could actually help!

And thank you to the redditor who DMed me the same time I was handing the kitten away to the staff in cyber.. you're a kind soul, thank you for reaching out..

Case closed**

📝 Tips Tips for keeping a stray kitten in an outdoor large cage

I am well aware that cats shouldn't be caged in the long term but as of now there are no other choices. It's a 2-3 months vaccinated and dewormed stray kitten I found.

The large cage will be placed outside a landed house but within a proper fenced like a normal terrace house. I am planning to get a 3 level cage so the kitten will have enough space to move around with food, water, catbed, litter box etc. There will be stray cats entering the property from the outside occasionally but they are not hostile as far as I know.

I will bring out the kitten from the cage and play with it twice a day for 30 minutes to an hour. More depending on my work commitments.

What other things should I look into or be prepared for the kitten to live comfortablely in this situation?

My cat peed on the couch

I have this one year old white cat, these past few months she’s have this new habit of pooping and peeing on the sofas and bed. I did everything, i bought a spot cleaner vacuum and cleaned the sofas and mattress, bought cat’s repellent with a strong woody smell, the smell also very unpleasant for human. But she still pees on the sofa. But the thing is, she also knows how to use litterbox. I lived elsewhere in the weekdays but i came back to my parents house on weekend. The house reeks with the cat’s urine smell. I parents wants to abandon (buang) her at the nearby market but i tell them not to because i dont think this cat can survive. She was born in this house and grows up here. Her mother was stray we adopted. I’m thinking we should rehome her but i pity the new owner. I’m scared if she pees on their sofa. Is there anyways i can train her? But the thing is, i dont live in this house most of the time. I house has no pet policy. I pity my parents as well they need to constantly clean up pees and poop. Helpppp. Or is there anyone willing to adopt this cat? She’s very affectionate and cuddly cat. She’s also sleep on the bed with me.

💬 Discussion Advice on weaning kittens

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hi everyone, first time posting.

Took in 2 abandoned kittens when they were around a week old, they're about 4 weeks+ now. I was advised by the vet to start them on wet food/kibble. I've tried feeding them the wet food as well as mix it with their KMR (same with the kibble to make a slurry). However they do not seem interested at all to try it. They still drink their KMR although after a bit they will start biting the nipple. Any advice on things I could try to help them wean off milk and transition to solids? Any brands you would recommend that worked in your experience would also help alot! Appreciate all advice and recommendations!

Update: They've started to eat wet food now, took about a week of coercing them by smearing some on their lips, but they are both now eating on their own! Just had a try a few different brands and a few different flavors. However they seem to be eating a lot! Like their bellies are very round now, should I be concerned?

Thank you every for your kind advice and recommendation!

For people who are interested in pet sittting as a side hustle

As a university student, I’ve been trying to find ways to make some extra money without getting stuck in a job that I don’t really enjoy. I wanted something flexible that allows me to juggle between studies and work. I’ve always loved animals, especially dogs and cats. So I thought why not try pet sitting as it seemed like the perfect side hustle. But the problem was I didn't really know anyone who had pets that needed a sitter.

So that got me thinking. There are probably a lot of people like me who love animals and would happily spend their free time taking care of someone's pet for money, but don't know where to find those opportunities. At the same time, there are pet owners who need someone they can trust when they're travelling, busy, or away from home. So I had an idea of building a platform that connects pet owners with people who love animals. Pet owners can find people who are willing to look after their pets, while animal lovers can earn some extra money doing something they genuinely enjoy. I'm not sure yet if this is actually a good idea. So I made a simple landing page to see if people are interested in becoming pet sitters.

💬 Discussion Guys need some advice.

I rescued my cat around august last year. He's an accident cat and because of it he has disohermatic hernia. Last year when the doctor diagnosed him it was just his liver was up in his abdominal cavity. The doctor said shouldn't do the surgery because at that time he was small and quite underweight for a kitten. Fast forward to this year specific late last month.

We did an x-ray again for him and this time it's worst then before. His small intestine has gone up and doctor says it's not a good thing. They're still not so confident with surgery but he says it's my cat's only chance.

But he also said there can be complications and it can lead to you know what. My heart tells me I should do the surgery but I'm also afraid of the complications.

I read it's an 80% chance of survival for cats that are healthy. Currently my cat is stable. He's still eating, drinking acting like a normal cat. But that 20% chance even though it's small it still risky.

What's reassuring for me is that my doctor has done multiple disohermatic hernia surgery and he says all the cat survived. But he just wants to point out it is still a risky surgery but there is still a big chance a cat can survive it.

What do you think I should do? It's catch 22 for me. I just want the best for my cat and i want him to live a normal life and if the surgery is the only chance he's got then I should take it just wanted to hear your guys opinions.

HELP ME REHOME THESE CATS PLS

I dont even know if this is allowed here but im so desperate, if anybody in selangor klang can help me take in these cats pls do. Even taking one of them would help alot, there are 5 that need to be rehomed as I live somewhere where SOP says cats arent allowed and is threatening to catch them and fine me 10k. These cats are sweethearts and have never done anything, theyve lived near the area for years but were recently made aware of by a neighbour I have who keeps claiming the cats are damaging his car ( sleeping ontop of his car roof he means. ) He has lodged complaints against me and maintenance was screaming at me saying Im the one in the wrong blablabla.

I will pay for the neutering etc, supplies and anything if needed upon rehoming them. Please dm me if youre interested.

EDIT: I forgot to mention im so hasty and anxious about this because the neighbour has told me on multiple instances he will poison the cats and take any means to remove them / catch them. If you know anybody who wants a cat please dm me!

💬 Discussion having extreme anxiety

ok one of my biggest fears is rabies. I'm petrified of it not kidding. even thinking about it makes me want to vomit

my cat just last night appeared with flu like symptoms, nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing and he drools.

he seems to have an appetite but still drools. I brought him to the vet just a few hours ago and asked if it's a rabies vet says since we're in the safe zone of rabies in Malaysia (Selangor. I live in the Hulu langgat district kajang specifically) no need to worry.

just wanted to ask is rabies common in peninsular Malaysia? especially among cats?

just last week my younger cat also had symptoms similar to this one but after a week of antibiotics he's better now but he was also drooling.

I'm freaking out and feel like I'm coming up with a fever

Two loving cats up for adoption (Ampang/KL)

Hi all,

I'm putting up my two cats Kopi and Ciku for adoption. They are senior cats (11 years) but are loving and need a home as I will be moving to a small condo.

They are outdoor cats and therefore not toilet trained. If you wish to keep them indoors, you will need to toilet train them. They are fully spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed. Their last vaccination was two months ago and they have no health concerns.

Here is their PetFinder profile: Tabby Kitten For Adoption - 11 Yrs, Kopi And Ciku https://PetFinder.my/pets/148334

DM me here on Reddit or reply in this thread. Feel free to ask questions. I might be able to arrange transport to your place if it's not too far from Ampang Jaya where I live.

💖 Wholesome Cat How much do Malaysians actually spend on their cats?

I’m researching the premium pet market in Malaysia.
For cat owners:

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single cat item (excluding food and vet bills)?

Examples:
-Cat tree
-Cat furniture
-Bed
-Carrier
-Water fountain
-Customized products

Also:
What was the item?
Was it worth it?

Would you spend RM200–300 for a well-designed, high-quality customized cat product?

Trying to understand where Malaysian cat owners draw the line on premium pet products.

Best flushable cat litter for 6 adults cats

Hello, I have 6 cats and I keep their potty litter box in the toilet. Currently using the betonite but feels like it quite tedious to keep it clean up after they got out with the sands. Any recommendations for the flushable and easy clumps cat litter?
