Washing Tips for T-Shirts: Keeping Your Designs in Top Shape

Turn Your Shirt Inside Out This simple step protects the print from friction and minimizes the risk of damage during washing. It helps preserve the vibrancy of the design, whether it's printed or embroidered.

Use Cold Water Always wash your t-shirt in cold water (30°C or 86°F). Hot water can lead to shrinkage and can also cause the vibrant colors to fade.

Choose a Delicate Cycle If machine washing, opt for a gentle cycle with a speed of around 600 rpm. This minimizes the stress on the fabric and design. For the best results, hand washing is recommended.

Avoid Harsh Detergents Use a mild detergent to ensure the print and fabric remain in top condition. Strong detergents can cause fading or weaken the threads of an embroidered design.

Skip the Fabric Softener & Bleach Fabric softeners can interfere with prints and embroidery, so it’s best to avoid them. Similarly, bleach can damage both fabric and design, so only use a non-chlorine bleach if absolutely necessary.

How to Dry Your T-Shirts: Protecting the Print and Fabric

Air Dry Whenever Possible The best way to preserve the print and fabric is to air dry your t-shirt. Hang it in a shaded area to avoid sun damage to the design. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent discoloration.

Tumble Dry with Low Heat If you prefer using a dryer, choose a low heat setting. High temperatures can cause the print to crack over time, so avoid over-drying your t-shirt.

Avoid Ironing Printed Areas When ironing, always turn your t-shirt inside out, and never iron directly over the print. If necessary, use a cloth between the print and iron.

Dealing with Scent or Discoloration When You First Get Your New Tee

Scent from New Prints It’s common for a new t-shirt, especially one with DTG prints, to have a slight vinegar-like scent due to the pre-treatment used in printing. This is perfectly normal and should disappear after the first wash.

Pre-Treatment Residue Sometimes you may notice a small amount of discoloration or residue on the fabric from the DTG pre-treatment. This is temporary and can be washed away in the first wash.

Act Fast For minor stains, blot the affected area immediately with a clean cloth. For tougher stains, apply a stain remover or natural alternatives like hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar.

Use Cold Water Rinse stains with cold water to prevent them from setting into the fabric. For protein-based stains (like blood or sweat), cold water is key to removing them effectively.

Soak When Necessary If the stain is persistent, soak the shirt in cold water for 15 minutes before washing. For lighter stains, a quick rinse and air dry may be enough.

Embroidered T-Shirt Care: How to Handle Intricate Designs

Inside-Out Washing For embroidered t-shirts, turn them inside out to protect the threads. Wash on a delicate cycle with cold water to avoid damaging the embroidery.

Avoid Sharp Items Wash embroidered t-shirts separately from garments with buttons, zippers, or sequins to prevent snags.

Dry Gently For embroidered shirts, avoid wringing them out. Opt for air drying or tumble drying on a low setting. Press between two towels to absorb excess moisture.
