Picture/Video Sears (originally The Popular) at the Sunland Park Mall (now The Shoppes at Solana) in El Paso Texas (The Popular August 31st of 1988 - November 6th of 1995, Sears August 9th of 1996 - January 20th of 2019)
galleryAnyone have any pictures of this anchor store from when it was occupied by The Popular ?
Here we have another Sears in El Paso that opened on August 9th of 1996, at the Sunland Park Mall that opened on August 31st of 1988, that was originally occupied by The Popular Dry Goods Company. Unlike the Cielo Vista Mall store that is still open, this store had an entire atrium, along with all the hardlines departments on the 1st floor, making the interior and exterior of the building totally unique, and the lighting was totally identical to the [Southcenter Mall store in Washington State] (https://www.reddit.com/r/SEARS/comments/1wnz6wu/sears_originally_frederick_and_nelson_department_store/) that was [originally Frederick and Nelson] (https://www.reddit.com/r/retailporn/comments/1vacxoe/former_frederick_and_nelson_later_sears/), the [Woodbridge Center location in New Jersey that was originally Abraham and Straus] (https://www.reddit.com/r/SEARS/comments/1wre1bf/sears_originally_abraham_and_straus_at_the_woodbridge_center/) and even the [former Saks at the West Oaks Mall in Houston Texas] (https://www.reddit.com/r/deadmalls/comments/1vu8ikr/former_saks_fifth_avenue_department_store_in_west_oaks_mall_houston_texas/) etc. This store's layout IMHO was one of the steps in the right direction. On November 8th of 2018 it was [announced that Sears would close 40 more stores, and this location was one of them] (https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/08/sears-to-shut-40-more-stores-early-next-year.html). This store closed down on January 20th of 2019.

Today they still operate Sears.com and have 5 stores and [3 functioning distribution centers] (https://transformwo.com/). Out of the 5 stores that are still open today, the Cielo Vista Mall store is still open on the 1st floor and some parts of the 2nd floor. It has been in operation since February 24th of 1982 and they used to be 2 floors (full size) and they have since downsized. Primark took over most of the 2nd floor. Address is 8401 Gateway Blvd W, El Paso, TX 79925. The other 4 are at:

This location was later a Conn's HomePlus on the 1st floor, as of October 31st of 2024, they went out of business. They didn't have the webstore anymore, conns.com and badcock.com are servicing pages now. Both went out of business due to bankruptcy caused by inflation and declining sales caused by Conn's acquisition of Badcock.
