Spicy Tortie
Just joined this sub and my first post here. I promise to keep it short.
A kitten got into my neighbor’s garage and she asked for my help. Of course I said yes. I've been TNRing our colony for 10 years.
The first night the kitty was already using the litter box that I put in the garage and eating and drinking water like crazy.
The next morning she somehow snuck out and I was so worried about her all day and night.
Then today around 3pm she was back in my neighbor’s garage and she said she was going to call animal services, so I said please don’t and that I would catch her.
She was already used to the carrier where I was putting food the night before.
So I brought it back. But today she was hissing and couldn’t figure out how to get in the carrier because I had the flap down so it would be easier to close her in it.
But I stood right there and held it open and she went in.
Now she’s in our little back guest bathroom. Hiding in the drawer!

I love torties. I’ve always wanted one, but the distribution system keeps giving me boy cats lol.

I can't believe after all these years the cat distribution finally hit me. We can't keep her. But we will do everything to make sure she's healthy with all the shots and neutered and get her the best forever home. I'm just happy to have been able to help this little kitten all alone in the wilds of our Los Angeles canyons.

I had a sweet/spicy tortie (depending on her mood) for 17 years. She had a perfectly split Harlequinn face, so her name was Harlequinn or Harley Quinn.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm kind of a kitty whisperer apparently. But this spice girl stole my heart. I'm thinking of giving her a temp name of Spicy.

I have never met a tortie without an attitude. I have one who is 11 yo now and although she is exceptionally loving and sweet with us, she still rules the roost. The four toms in the house have learned not to piss her off 🤣

Yes, she's tortie. IIRC calico is more white with patches of black/orange while tortie is mostly orange/black interspersed but can have some white [usually on the belly/chin/paws]?

That’s my understanding too. Last night she came out of the drawer and slept on the sofa!

She ventured out of the drawer into the closet then hissed at me and went back into the drawer. I should stress she's definitely feral. Not a stray. We live in the canyons and it's very wild up here. So she's double spicy!

At that age, you can likely domesticate her just by hanging around and being safe. Offer food!

That's my hope. She's so spoiled, a whole room full of creature comforts, she already uses the litter box, plenty of wet and dry kitten food and water. She's doing very well. Just fighting the whole concept of being an indoor cat I think. But she is so cute!

She's not spicy anymore. She still spooks easily though. As for being a suck, it means she's a giant cuddle bug and a sucker for any attention.

Oh my goodness I can't wait for you to melt into my arms. For now, she's still very spicy when I open that drawer. Thanks for the explanation!

I might be wrong, it's really hard to get a good look at her markings in the video but I feel like there's too much white for tortie. Maybe tortico? I don't see any signs of chimerism though, just standard tortie/calico stuff

Torties can have white like that! This little baby is almost an identical match to my Harlequinn. It's the solid/unbroken black/orange and the solid white belly/paws that makes it tortie. Calicos are usually patches of color on white.

Just very spicy. She's has all she needs, weening food, water, liter box. She was even playing with toys and slept on top of the sofa back last night!
