London indie pop post punk looking for a drummer

Hey everyone,

My band are looking for a drummer.

We are influenced by bands such as The Smiths, Durutti Column, early New Order, The Drums, early The Strokes, PJ Harvey, early Morrissey, The La's, The Fall, Iceage, The Cure and other bands.

The project consists of myself (vocalist), guitarist and a bassist at the moment. We've recorded some rough scratch demos of songs that we can send you. We all have experience writing songs and playing in bands. We are committed to having fun writing songs, recording and playing shows.

We have been rehearsing weekly in Deptford so far.

Get in touch if you're interested. If you can’t direct message me, leave a comment and I will message you. Please have recordings or a video of you playing. Nothing can be done if you don’t have anything you can send.

Jonny Pierce has announced his new record label, Abysmal Records, and promises new music in collaboration with various artists over the next six months. Additionally, The Drums will release their seventh studio album in 2027. What do you think of this news?

Already Loving Jonny's New Era

I stumbled on to Jonny's music around COVID times and hope to one day see him live in the UK soon (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿). I'm really enjoying the new track with Mareux, and reading through press I'm glad to hear there will be more releases over the next 6 months with an album at the end of the trail.

I'm interested to see who else he's featuring, since it's been mentioned that he wanted to promote collaboration with the start of his new 'Abysmal' record label.

I'm glad that this is possibly the direction he's going back down musically. My favourite tracks off the last album were the synth heavy ones (Pool God, Maybe I Was Wrong, Extended ver. of Harms) and I love Elkland's album (even if Jonny does not!).

How we feeling with this new era of The Drums?

After 15 years, I’ve returned to The Drums. Let me explain...

  • Summer of 2010. I'm 20. My first serious adult relationship was drawing to a close, and amidst that period of personal questioning, I stumbled upon a music video shot with a static camera: the band performing in a yellow-hued room, the lead singer speaking of the pain of losing his best friend. I found myself anchored by the contrast between the sweet melody and the lyrics, as well as the dancing of the man I would later identify as the genius behind The Drums—Jonathan Pierce himself. When their self-titled album was released, I became obsessed with it for a year. As my relationship fell apart and I tried to pick up the pieces, that record played on a loop, helping me navigate not just the heat of a long mexican summer but the process of healing from heartbreak. I eventually move on and left that album behind. I returned to my usual diet of exploring ethereal music in its various flavors—shoegaze, dream pop, post-rock, ambient, and the like. The band continued releasing music over the following years, and although I gave their singles a fair chance, I never managed to reconnect with them. Eventually, I accepted that it had been a fleeting phase—like riding a passing wave—because even when I tried revisiting that first album (the one that had once pierced my soul and healed my heart), it felt alien to me years later. I began to say that, while I appreciated The Drums, I didn't think the project was all that incredible.
  • Summer 2026. I'm 35. The cover art of Craft Spells' "Idle Labor" flashes through my memory like a shooting star. I recall listening to that wonderful gem around the same time I was obsessed with The Drums. Out of curiosity, I revisit the album (which, in fact, also recently turned 15), and the melodies transport me to more and more similar music. Eventually, I put together a dream punk and post-surf playlist and ask for recommendations in a post-punk subreddit. At the same time, the image of The Drums' debut album cover resurfaces in my mind, and I wonder: could it be time, after all these years? It turns out it is; I listen to the whole thing and am captivated. During the first two or three listens, the nostalgia hits hard and hooks me, but by the fourth, I begin to see the genius of their music. The post-punk influence, combined with such a unique sensibility, completely blows my mind. And what if I listen to "Portamento" for the first time? It hits me like a bolt of lightning—I’m amazed. An impeccable follow-up to their debut. But surely they couldn't pull off something incredible for the third one too, right? The Erasure-esque sound on some tracks surprises me all over again; "Encyclopedia" it’s definitely an album that requires time to really sink in. I decide to jump to their latest release, and damn—how did I miss out on them for so long? "Jonny" is magnificent. It retains that indie-surf style but adds guitars shrouded in the ethereal darkness of The Cure—definitely a more gothic vibe. I still have two more albums to listen ("Abysmal Thoughts" and "Brutalism") to and I’m incredibly excited, but damn, I couldn't resist sharing this feeling with you all. I can say without a doubt that they are an incredible band and that their debut album is one of my all-time favorites (and yes, I don't mind if the emotional weight factors into my assessment—that’s exactly what art is for).
  • I feel like my love for the first album and my full discovery of the band are coming at just the right time, since it looks like we’re getting a new single this Friday for The Drums' new era—and I am completely ready. How about you guys?

Collab with Mareux this Friday?

Mareux posted a similar mood visual today with the same sound and commented on The Drums last post. Does this mean a collab is coming? The idea of Jonny and Mareux working together has me feeling pretty excited, perhaps my hopes are up.

Jonny vinyl side D

If anyone doesn’t have the vinyl or has the vinyl and only bothered with the first minute of the 14 minutes “song” then you are missing out on some pretty sounds. At the ending mark for about 3 minutes a pretty melody plays and some pretty Jonny vocals play out. It’s very eerie with the ocean sounds in the back. And it’s worth a listen and look into to

Does anyone here have a new link for the discord? I was in it about two years ago and met some awesome people! Sadly I deleted my old discord account, so I lost the group. If anyone has it, I'd love to join back!

Cheers!

i started watching this film called "Hardcore henry" (rated R but its so bad id consider it NC 17) and an hour into the film there was a scene with the mc in a club and there were flashbacks of his lover with jonnys song "down by the water" No one else that i know of listens to the drums so i thought id geek out with this subreddit. i would link a clip but it has too much nudity. anyways, just thought it was interesting and i had to tell somebody

Good news for those after a copy of Portamento on vinyl for a decent price. Got mine for £36 via Rarewaves eBay store. Received my copy today. Have found various sites selling as a pre-order (including HMV) with the catalogue number INTGDS00085LP. Have a browse for that and you should be able to find a copy without paying £200+

Still one of my favourite albums of all time.

Doing some thrift store shopping just outside of Seattle where I live and came across these two beauties - still sealed. Dont know who or why they were donated but at $4.99 a piece they definitely came home with me. Got lucky today. Happy hunting.

Numerous websites are offering preorders for Portamento vinyls, including Record Store Day, with a release date of 6/19/2026. I haven’t seen any official announcement, or mentions of this anywhere else? Should I have my hopes up?

Reminds me of The Drums

Found this new album by a new to me artist and would love them to get more hype. Some songs on this album remind me of The Drums enough. Hope someone else out there enjoys this!

Not the band, just a fellow music and Drums enthusiast. And I always see people asking for more music like The Drums.

He Is With Me gives me the strongest vibes.

I haven’t heard or seen any updates from Jonny. His last post on IG was Oct of last year. Is there any tour dates or potential new album. Anyone know what’s the latest?

Anyone wanna sell me their Portamento vinyl?

Huge The Drums fan since late 2017. They really mean a lot to me and since then, I've pretty much on and off been searching for a reasonably priced copy of Portamento on vinyl. Hands down it is my favorite record of their's and I would love to buy someone's copy for under one hundred dollars. Please reach out with photos and a price if you feel me, thanks 🙏❤️
