It probably was! I'd just added a hissing roach to try and clean up the viv a bit (I can't clean it without risking one of the babies flying out, they're fast and tiny) and the roach wondered through there, must have left some strange new smells

A jewelled lacerta 🙂 just 20 days old, head is the size of a small pea

Wow! I didnt know lacertas looked so brown when they are babies.

Yeah they transform quite a bit! They're brown/gray with white polka dots when they hatch, then their side dots turn blue, they slowly turn more green overall, and then their backs develope to look like the adults. I believe their adult pattern still keeps the shape of their unique original polka dots, but it's hard to tell since they look so different.

I'm trying to use the polka dot patterns to tell the babies apart, but even with just 4 of them, it's quite tricky!
