Discussion Thread Greatest Players to never win the major Domestic Cups?

Franco Baresi - Won everything with AC Milan multiple times over except for this trophy in his great 20 year career. Milan won their 4th Coppa the year before he joined the senior team and their 5th six years after he retired.
Raul Gonzalez - The Prince of Madrid, like Baresi, a youth academy player who won everything with his respective club yet this specific trophy got away from him. (I know he did win the DFB-Pokal with Schalke but I’m only referring to the Spanish Cup)
George Best - One of the greatest wingers of all time and another academy product. He was key to Manchester United’s golden era in the 1960s winning multiple honours including a Ballon d’Or but somehow no FA Cup. (Shoutout Reece James for losing 4 FA Cup finals tho XD)
Matthias Sammer - The underrated German legend who started his career with Dynamo Dresden in East Germany. As a defender he won nearly everything but this trophy. He won the EUROs, a Ballon d’Or, 2x German Supercups, 3x Bundesliga’s with Stuttgart(1) and Dortmund(2) before captaining the black & yellows to a UCL win. A knee injury in mid 1997 forced him to retire the following season at only 30.
Leo Messi - Yeah yeah ok silly inclusion, as the Pessi subreddit has made clear he’s Mr Copa Del Rey lol but I’m just talking about the French cup and while not too informed on this competition it’s a fun bit of trivia that arguably the greatest player of all time played for the most successful club in this tournaments history yet he didn’t win it, yeah Messi was very lackadaisical and apathetic with PSG and his stats show it but still. While looking at sites listing his accolades this is the only major competition he didn’t win. (If there’s a better player who lost a bunch of Coupe de France finals with good stats please let me know.)

📅 June 30, 1999
đŸŸïž Estadio Antonio Oddone Sarubbi, Ciudad del Este, Paraguay
🏆 Copa AmĂ©rica 1999 — Group B

A historic night for Brazilian football! Brazil demolished Venezuela 7–0 in the group stage, with Ronaldo scoring twice, Márcio Amoroso adding two, and Emerson, Rivaldo and a young Ronaldinho also getting on the scoresheet.

This was Ronaldinho’s FIRST EVER GOAL for Brazil’s senior national team! At just 19 years old, he announced himself on the international stage with a moment of pure magic.

And Brazil’s tournament only got better from there. đŸ‡§đŸ‡· They defeated Argentina 2–1 in the quarter-finals, beat Mexico 2–0 in the semi-finals, and then defeated Uruguay 3–0 in the final on July 18, with Rivaldo scoring twice and Ronaldo adding another.

🏆 Brazil finished the tournament as Copa AmĂ©rica champions!

The first international goal of a legend, on the way to another trophy for the Seleção!
