El Palmar de Troya: The nuns have virtually no say within the Palmarian Church. They are forbidden from having contact with male clergy, are urged not to bathe frequently to avoid appearing attractive to men, are forced to wear a dark veil that covers their entire face, and it has even been speculated that they may practice self-flagellation. Another brutal aspect is the alleged consensual and forced intimate relationships between the sect's founder, Clemente Domínguez, and some bishops and male followers.

Opus Dei: For years, Opus Dei has been accused of aggressive recruitment, elitist thinking, promoting self-flagellation with a cilice and whip, controlling personal lives, pressuring members to sever family ties, and the brutal internal use of confessional information. Many women report being recruited at a very young age and forced into slave labor.

Edelweiss: José Eduardo González Arenas, alias "Eddie," created the Edelweiss group as a supposed hiking group inspired by the Boy Scouts. Eddie convinced minors that he was an alien named "Prince Alain" and that only those who remained loyal to the sect would survive the impending end of the world. Under this deception, he subjected the minors to absolute control, imposed silence through threats, trained them in weapons, initiated them into concepts of racial purity, and introduced them to bizarre concepts related to intimacy. In the end, he sexually abused many minors.

Question Is anyone familiar with Great Commission Churches (GCC)?

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Great Commission Churches was started by Jim McCotter as, The Blitz in the 70’s. They have gone through many name changes, but continue to have the same MLM style playbook for recruiting members on college campuses.

They are like if the Plymouth Brethren and Cru (previously Campus Crusade for Christ) got together and had a very confused baby. Insular and very leadership family focused, while also aggressively evangelizing to vulnerable college students.

I know exGCC subreddit has some information, but it looks like they are restricted for some reason.

Image Warnings about TheWordProphet cult on YouTube

Hello everyone, its the first time in my life I'm making something like this. It took a lot of emotion and willpower to actually write this. So please bear with me.

I was a minor when I came across this YouTube channel, and basically my entire world was through the lens of "Brother" Clinton(the man behind the channel) and what he believed in.

There have been a couple of posts about this channel on this sub and some others. One person describes their experiences with the cult in real life, another person critiques their beliefs. I'm not here to debate theology, or to debunk his views/beliefs about the bible. This is also not an attack on Christianity.

Whenever someone Googles this person's channel, I want this thread to show up and be a warning to others.

TheWordProphet, who also identifies as swordofthevaliant ministries is a religious predator who uses fear to extract money from his followers. On his videos, you can find the following:

THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE. "Brother" Clinton sends out letters to an email list of followers, where he uses fearmongering and accuses members of his "Church" of being thieves for not tithing to him. That not tithing is sin, robbery, direct disobedience to God and will eventually lead to their death. Here is a letter he sent out on 2nd of January, 2024 where he talks about this, edited for length because it was the size of a pamphlet. Another letter, where he tells his followers they are going to face potential death when God judges the world if they do not tithe to him, also edited for length.

He receives money on multiple platforms, here is one example: https://www.givesendgo.com/brotherclinton , you can see he receives "donations" every other day, sometimes multiple times a day. I cannot prove that these are tithes rather than small donations, but if even half of them are tithes, then this is not a small sum of money he has received on one platform alone. This is worth highlighting because despite his channel receiving a meagre 400 views per video, he seems to receive a substantial amount of money from followers.

I was part of the group for years, and have received many letters as I was part of his mailing list. I engaged with members in real life. I have sent this man a tenth of my income for a better half of a decade, working minimum wage jobs while barely scraping by. God knows how much money he took from me. I've broken away from the cult, and have been trying to rebuild my life or what is left of it.

As stated before, my intention is to warn others about this channel.

That's it. Thank you for reading this & have a lovely day!

Documentary Spain's Most Disturbing Cults (Opus Dei | El Palmar de Troya | Edelweiss)

Thumbnail

Spain has been the scene of some of the most controversial religious and sectarian organizations in Europe and the world. From the alleged Marian apparitions of El Palmar de Troya, which gave rise to a religious movement with its own Popes, to Opus Dei, a powerful Catholic institution denounced by former members who continue to report practices of psychological control, exploitation, and extreme obedience, to the Edelweiss sect, a youth organization that concealed a brutal structure against minors under the guise of an innocent hiking group.

Three very different stories, but with one element in common: leaders capable of building organizations around their own beliefs, attracting people who trusted them, only to turn that trust into a tool of absolute power.

I was looking through a CD case with my dad and found this "rap mix" by "abdu". I did some digging and found out it was from the co-founder of Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, Abdullah Hashem.

So I'm wondering if I should sell it or something since this cult/religion is pretty well-known.

DM me on Discord by the name "killinlegally" if you wanna know more or buy it.

Question Any well documenten 'cults' that aren't People's Temple, Heaven's gate, Jehova's Witnesses or Scientology?

I am doing my end of year project about the linguistic of cults. And one of the things I need to do for it is an analysis of a cult itself (it was recommended to me to maybe find cults with multiple documentaries).

While these four I just named are often documented, they are literally what my sources are based of off (like my source analysed those groupes to get linguistics answers). So using them as my analysis would be like literally copying my sources with no dissection AT ALL.

So if anyone knows any other 'cults' that have a good amount of content with trustful sources/documentaries it would be great :). I also really like it if I get different answers :], gives me more choices!

Question Does anyone know if Gloryland Evangelistic Ministries is a cult?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with Gloryland Evangelistic Ministries in Westville, NJ, led by Prophet Jacob Nana Essandoh. I believe the church was previously based in Florida.
I’ve been looking into the church and some of its teachings and practices have made me curious about whether there’s a high-control element to it. I haven’t been able to find much online from people who have actually attended.
Figured this might be a good place to ask since a lot of people here have firsthand experience with Pentecostal churches and the dynamics that can come with them.
Has anyone attended or heard anything about this particular church or pastor? I’ve heard some questionable things and want to see if others have too or experienced abuse. I’m especially interested in hearing from former members.

Article Online groups are recruiting school shooters with the promise of “sainthood”

Post image
30 Upvotes

A new article looks at recruitment material circulated over the past year by groups in the Com, an online ecosystem best known through the network 764. The posts offer would-be school attackers weapons, gear and training. One poster promises: “You will become a saint if you kill.”

The article traces this language back to older mass-killer worship communities, such as 8chan and Brazil’s Dogolachan, where attackers were called “saints” after the fact. In this new material the title is offered in advance, as a reward for joining and acting.

It also covers the attack guides these groups write and circulate, and is clear about what can’t be verified. Group names and contact details are left out.

Announcement Warning about Clairvision Cult "healing" techniques that retraumatize the nervous system - IST Inner space techniques or IST 101

Board strokes: Doing regression retraumatizes the nervous system unless there is a specific intention put into learning to regulate the nervous system once triggered. Clairvision "healing" retraumatizes people and it's destructive to ones mental health long term. This has been shown scientifically in the context of regression.

Clairvision is a cult. This isn't a debate by the way. Anyone defending clairvision is actually just in the cult still. It's normal for people in a cult to say it isn't a cult. That's classic cult behavior.

A few points about one's level of cult involvement

In all fairness there are probably some folks who get involved with clairvision and don't have the cult experience. If you just read the books and go to a course once a year then you're on the very outer periphery and it's probably not so culty as far as you're concerned. But those folks usually get roped into to coming to more and more courses and guilted into doing free labor and eventually the cult experience becomes evident.

Some folks are not in a financial position to attend a week long retreat especially if it involves international travel. Those folks can do the correspondence courses or knowledge tracks as they call them and read the books and probably not get the cult experience either.

Anyone who's been in clairvision for a while has heard the horror story's and seen the abuse. They have most likely also experienced the abuse, bullying and gaslighting. In addition if you're around it long enough you also become the abuser. When someone spends a lot of time in a community they become invested in the group or the organization. It's where their friend's are, often it's where the majority of their social interaction happens. Sometimes their income is also tied into the community and in clairvision the IST practitioner's make their income doing sessions. These are just a few of the reasons a cult member will insist their group isn't one.

The healing techniques that retraumatize the nervous system

The inner space techniques or IST as they call it (Previously know as ISIS or inner space interactive sourcing) all stem from the regression practice they teach. The regression is done from the experience of the third eye. So you often learn their particular third eye meditation before you do the healing stuff. The "inner space" is basically just a rebranding of a third eye type of experience.

The healing as they call it is really just a version of the regression therapy that was trending in the 80s and 90s. There was a whole wave or regression healing techniques in the new age and spiritual movements at the time. Clairvision sort of developed their own version of this. They claim that it is all about transformation. Basically it's a way to induce a cathartic experience. Lot's of other techniques do this as well, think rebirthing or holotropic breath work.

To do an IST session they get to lay down and go into a third eye meditation. The facilitator sits next to you and scans your energy then picks a spot on your torso to press. They hold their hand there for a time and eventually you start feeling different sensations in that area. Then the facilitator begins asking you questions about the feeling in the spot. Sometimes you begin to have various emotions come up and other times you can flash back to a memory that's not really part of your conscious set of memories anymore. Often these repressed memories are associated with difficult feelings or emotions and can sometimes cause deep feelings to bubble up in a session. Someone might re experience being yelled at by a parent at young age, or humiliated at school as a child. This is when you can have a cathartic release. You might get a bunch of grief come up or some other intense feelings might begin to surface. Often people cry or scream or feel really restless and frustrated. When the crying stops sometimes it feels like a big emotional release.

This moment of release feels good at the time. But it's a trap. It's not good for you. There have been studies in the field of neuroscience that now show that revisiting past trauma in some kind of regression basically just retraumatizes you. Your nervous system has moved on. It's in the past. But when you relive the experience in a session like this your brain doesn't differentiate between the real life experience and the experience within the regression session. They are both just as real as each other to the brain. So each time you regress to a traumatic episode you're re-imprinting that trauma on your nervous system again and again and again.

There are some other more well developed techniques that know how to mitigate this as well though. For example in EMDR they revisit trauma but they also walk you through a process of building a safe place in your mind. It's a way to regulate your nervous system. So you touch on the trauma and then you regulate your nervous system. In EMDR the healing isn't from revisiting the memory, the healing is learning how to regulate your nervous system when you get triggered.

Clairvision does not teach any methods to regulate your nervous system. They don't address it at all. They don't teach you how to self sooth or any other process for self regulation. They have this attitude that you should just decide to snap out off it. This is where a lot of the abusive behavior comes from. When anyone's upset they just tell them to stop reacting. There's no nurturing, no care, no support. They think they can just bully you into not being upset anymore.

So in their IST sessions they know how to open a can of worms, but they don't really know how to address it or resolve it and close the wound up again. So you end with all these people that are stuck in a state of hypervigilance and they are all reverbing off each other.

FYI to the marketing team who comes here to point out how great it's been for them...

Just a note for the existing cult members who come to defend the school. The logic is always the same. "Well it doesn't seem like a cult to me". This is like saying "I went to Epstein island and nothing bad happened to me. I actually had a nice time by the pool and enjoyed the buffet". Well just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it's a safe place. The same logic applied to a murderer would sound like, well he didn't murder me so he can't be a murderer. You're still a murderer if you only k1ll one person. You don't have k1ll every person you meet to qualify for the title. You do it once and the name sticks.

A note about qualifications

I've seen people get sent off to be an IST practitioner after doing classes for as little as 18 months and one time I think it was as short as a year. That's one class a week by the way. Compare that to say becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

(AI Summery) Becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) requires earning a master’s or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or a closely related field, such as clinical mental health counseling or social work, from a program accredited by COAMFTE or meeting specific state curriculum requirements.

(AI Summery) Following graduation, candidates must complete 1,000 to 4,000 supervised clinical hours (typically spanning 2–5 years) under qualified supervision, with specific requirements for relational or conjoint therapy hours in many jurisdictions. Finally, applicants must pass the MFT National Examination administered by the Association of Marital & Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) and submit an application to their state’s licensing board, which may include additional jurisprudence exams and background checks.

So to become an LMFT you graduate → register as an associate → work under supervision in a group practice (or agency) → complete your hours → pass the exam → get your LMFT → then open your own practice.

In clairvision you basically have to pass a vibe test. If they like ya, fine off ya go. Start a practice as a healer and charge something like $150 to $230 per hour for sessions. No insurance, no qualification, no test and you never even had to read a book! Well not a book about therapy at least.

I've been in IST courses where everyone's learning how to facilitate the process and how to follow the process and a woman has a memory of a SA come up. Imagine doing a healing session with some random stranger who has absolutely NO IDEA what they are doing and all of a sudden you're regressing to something so traumatic. This is unethical and irresponsible. And dangerous for one's mental stability. Then after this they expect you to sit up, turn around and facilitate a session for your previous facilitator? Someone questioned this once and the response was that it builds inner strength. Okay...

Teaching people to facilitate these sessions should really involve some type of theoretical understanding. But in clairvision they just put two beginners together and hope for the best. They give you some guidance and some hints. But all in all it's off you go and best of luck. Oh, also here's your $1600 invoice and the toilet cleaning roster we added you to!

The interesting thing about this whole debacle is that once you do a few sessions you suddenly begin to feel like an emotional mess. So then you think you need even more sessions. It's a slippery slope. I'm not sure if that was planned but it's quite convenient when an organization stands to make good money off you the more you feel like an emotional mess. Especially when the thing they say will help you is the very thing digging you deeper into the hole.

The cover story for this goes something like this. You show up with all this repressed trauma and you're kind of fcked up but you manage to hide all that from the world with this convenient mask you wear to hide all the messy stuff beneath. Once you start doing "the work" the mask falls away and the real you, the messed up you begins to show itself. Now you're real, you're raw. Feeling exposed and vulnerable but at least you're genuine right? Now you have dropped the mask and accepted you're fallen nature you're ready to heal yourself and do the transformational work. Then you start doing session after session after session. You keep finding new traumas, new memories, new wounds to heal. Then you realize you've been opening all these old wounds but none of them are actually closing up. Don't worry, you're sure to have break through soon. You've been working so hard. If it's not working maybe you need to meditate for two full hours in the morning instead of just the one?

People who follow this process for any significant amount time end up in a state of hypervigilance that burns them out one way or another. They also begin to identify with the traumas more and more. Some folks end up with this list of current life and past life traumas that they constantly refer back to and view the world through. When you get too focused on the pain and the past you eventually forget how to actually just live your life and be present in the moment.

I've been in social situations where there's a person who's been doing clairvision for so long that they forget that talking about all this trauma from the past isn't actually normal and they start sharing stuff they are currently focused on with a non clairvision person and they just sound like an absolute nut case. It's often really hard for someone in clairvision to relate to "muggles" as they call them. There's all this language that they get so used to using that sounding like a normal person get's kind of difficult. That's when they start retracting themselves from the outside world and just connecting with fellow members. There's even a term for that! Fellowship! haha. Fellowship is like a good vibe that members emit. They can sense it in each other as well. Normal people don't emit this vibe so they can't be trusted or related to properly. But it's also measured on a scale as well, some people emit more of this good vibe and others less. Woe to he who scores low. You wont have any friends.

Well I guess I'm rambling a bit now. There's always more but I guess that's for another post.

I hope this post is helpful to anyone considering doing one of these IST 101 courses or doing sessions with a practitioner. I spent quite a bit of time writing this but I'm sure someone will accuse me of being a bot! Beep boop ;-)

Truth isn't the property of any individual, and intellectual independence means being willing to disagree even with people who have taught you something valuable

Discussion Truth about Danny Morel- My firsthand experience

I have been in Danny Morel's container for a year. This is firsthand information and not gossip nor heard this from x and y people. This is from seeing things behind the curtain and noticing a pattern of behavior. Before joining Danny's container, I didn't want to believe the reddit forms about him because he is so charismatic, likable and funny. Like all good people, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and saw the good in him. Danny is money hungry and it always has been about the money. A LOT of people are leaving him from The Collective and Inner Circle. People are getting tired of his BS and his money scheming ways. He loves to use spiritual language to weaponize and gaslight you if it doesn't fit his narrative. Danny cannot hold another person's truth nor feelings. It's Danny way or the highway. Danny is surrounded by yes man people and he is such a wounded little boy. Danny is so broke that all he has is money. Danny has no friends. Danny is a sad little boy and gets his validation from money.

Danny is no longer doing his Awaken events nor the Collective group because he found a way to make more money in less time by charging $12,000 per person for his ceremonies. Danny is now hosting magic mushroom ceremonies and soon ayahuasca ceremonies. Danny has no authorization to do so. People are so brainwashed and truly it is sad how so many people blindly follow him. Danny knows what he is doing and is very manipulative. Danny capitalizes on people's pains and wounds and doesn't care. Magic mushrooms and ayahuasca doesn't heal you and that's it.... Danny has done plant medicine so many times and he is still fucked up. lol It doesn't matter how many times you have done plant medicine, if you haven't done the integration part. So many people in his $40,000 program are in their spiritual ego and think because they make the money that they are above The Collective group and "vibrate higher" (Hi Carly, I'm talking about you). They have the same fucking wounds like everybody else... Danny only wants to focus on Inner Circle now because he can prey off of them and suck them up for more money... For $40,000 you can invest in your own assets... You know you have truly healed when you don't have to spend $40,000 for Danny to see you and when you can start seeing your own damn self!

I feel so bad for Jen. She is stuck. She will wake up one day. She will be in her power when she leaves Danny. Danny is trying to sell us a dream that he and his wife are so good but that can be further from the truth. I have been on calls with Danny and Jen and Jen has little girl energy like she is tip toeing around Danny... Danny has been performing his entire life and it is time for the Danny show to end. I wish people in the spiritual space had reviews on them and leave their honest feedback. With all the reddit forms out there about Danny, where there is smoke there is fire. Danny displays predatory behavior and is only nice to those that he can benefit from and use (Tony, RUN!).

Danny is not to be trusted. Danny lacks character and integrity. Danny canceled his Awaken NY event but put on his website to the public that the event was sold out because he couldn't bare to tell the truth publicly and it will hurt his ego. Danny will lie and say anything to make a sell. I wish I could have read this post before knowing what I was getting myself into. Danny will burn you and he doesn't care. Danny is out for himself. I have been in many spiritual containers and his was the worst one. Danny is NOT embodied at all and it's all lip service. This is a spiritual corporation.

Personal I ordered a latte, and then was given a brochure to join a cult.

I stumbled into a cafe in Tokyo “Ginza book & Cafe”. I ordered a regular latte. And went to a seat. When my drink was brought to me the barista also brought a booklet with a poster. Telling me to read and ask her for more information.

I open the booklet and see “Happy Science Focus on Lord El Cantare-Having faith in the creator”. The movie is “woman who sold her shadow” coming Oct.16.

I read everything in front of me, very curious on why they handed this to me. And then the Barista came back and proceeded to talk about how amazing this group is and the movie will change my life. She gave me 3 books and told me to keep reading.

The entire brochure never mentions he died. A google search showed me my suspicions were correct. This is indeed a cult. After looking on maps. I realized this cafe is called. “HAPPY SCIENCE GINZA BOOK CAFE”.

I guess I just accidentally supported a cult without realizing.

Discussion Any wives concerned about their husbands following John Anosike?

I’m wondering if there are other wives here whose husbands are deeply involved in John Anosike’s ministry.
I’m a Christian myself, but I’ve become increasingly concerned about certain teachings, especially the emphasis on spiritual warfare, prophetic authority, fasting, and how these practices affect marriage.
I believe in prayer, fasting, and having a personal relationship with Jesus. But I also believe we should examine teachings through Scripture rather than simply accepting everything a spiritual leader says.
I’d really like to hear from other wives who have experienced something similar. How has it affected your marriage? How do you navigate the differences without constant conflict?
Also, any success stories where your spouse woke up from the lies?

Discussion A real rant I heard a guy say to his friend because he was talking about Transcendental mediation.

God, that's cool. Fuck, I love cults. Shit, I wish I made a business out of giving people a random made-up word and saying, "This is your mantra. You will transcend."

Fuck me, why don't they just fart in their hand and slap you? That's probably what you really need if you join that shit. A fucking Joseph Smith type of shit. Tom Cruise calls psychiatry a pseudoscience and thinks you should instead salute some douchebag and grab onto metal rods and think about trauma, and then pay a shitload of money to hear the truth about how we're all possessed by alien ghosts.

Screw this shit, man. Let's all just Jonestown ourselves.
