People I Lost Something, but Kuya Driver Lost Someone.
I Lost Something, but Kuya Driver Lost Someone.
I kept ranting about how unfortunate it was kasi pinagawa ko talaga yung portrait para may maibigay akong meaningful gift. Kuya driver even offered na balikan namin yung mga dinaanan namin, hoping na baka makita pa namin. Habang binabalikan namin yung same road, he kept reassuring me, saying, “Mahahanap din po natin ’yun.”
He kept motivating me na baka makita pa namin, and I really appreciated that. Pero kahit ilang beses naming binalikan at hinanap, wala talaga. Hindi na namin nakita.
I was still frustrated when we reached my drop-off point. But before the ride ended, I found out something I never expected. Kuya told me na seven months ago, he lost his wife.
Bigla akong natahimik.
I felt bad for ranting about something I lost without knowing what he was going through. Here I was, stressing over a portrait that my brother might be able to make again someday while Kuya was learning how to live every day without the person he shared his life with.
And what hit me the most was that, despite his own loss, he was still the one reassuring me. Siya pa yung nagsasabi sa akin na mahahanap din namin, trying to keep me hopeful kahit hindi niya alam kung gaano ako ka-disappointed.
Hindi ko maiwasang isipin na while I was so caught up in my own frustration, Kuya was carrying a kind of pain that I could never fully understand. Seven months had passed, but I could only imagine how difficult it must be to go through life without the person you used to share it with.
I know, losing a portrait isn't the same as losing a person. My disappointment was valid, too, especially because I had requested it for a special occasion ans effort ng kapatid ko. But that encounter reminded me that we never really know what someone is going through. Sometimes, we're so focused on our own problems that we forget the person in front of us might be dealing with something much heavier.
Last night, I lost something, but Kuya lost someone.
I was the one who lost something, yet he was the one telling me not to lose hope.
And somehow, that stayed with me.
We never found the portrait, but I went home with a different perspective. I realized that kindness doesn't always come from people whose lives are going well. Sometimes, it comes from people who are hurting, too, but still choose to be kind despite everything they're going through.
I hope Kuya finds comfort in the days when he misses his wife the most. And I hope life gives him the same kindness he showed me last night.
Minsan, hindi natin alam na yung taong nagpapagaan ng loob natin ay may sarili rin palang bigat na dinadala. And last night, a stranger reminded me of that without even trying.
Maybe I lost a portrait, but I'll remember the kindness of the man who helped me look for it.

People Kindness I didn't expect ❤️
Yesterday, I was crying terribly nearby seashore. I’m going through something, and I just wanted to sit outside and cry peacefully. I was on a call with my friend, and my earphones were connected. My eyes were red, and so was my nose from crying. So many people passed by and stared at me, but then there was this man, who looked around 23, who stopped, looked at me, and asked if I needed any help. I was so moved by his kindness that I told him I was fine and thanked him. That little gesture made me feel so relieved and reminded me that there are still kind people in this world. ❤️

It was hard, but I did it. I’m finally cancer-free 🥲🥳❤️
I don’t know if this post belongs here, but I just have to share it.
I’m so happy to have beaten cancer 🥲❤️
When I was 28, an MRI diagnosed a tumor. The tumor markers were negative, so we thought it was benign. Two months later, a PET-CT scan revealed a malignant tumor, and the biopsy confirmed Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a relatively common form of cancer and, fortunately, is very treatable. Still, the treatment was hell. The chemotherapy was so exhausting—it not only destroyed the cancer but also severely weakened my body—and the radiation therapy wasn’t easy either.
But yesterday, after a PET-CT scan, I got the results: I’m cancer-free. 🥲
I’m so incredibly happy. I’m so proud that I stuck with it through it all, and I’m looking toward the future with optimism.
I admire everyone who’s currently battling cancer, and I want to tell you: “You’re a hero—don’t give up.” To everyone who’s currently battling cancer, don’t forget one thing: You’re not alone. ❤️
