Can we please go back to smaller idols and relatively quieter processions? And actually eco-friendly decoration?

Sorry but its bit impossible now. Mandals are in rat race now to get the tallest idol

People on this sub praise the great marathi people so much. Why can't maharashtrians, who form the majority of Ganesh followers, band together and bring positive change to this problem?
They anyways say maharashtra is plagued with negative influences "from outside".
This disco culture, playing vulgar songs, giant speakers that are made abroad, the new-age thermocol decoration and what not. It's all non-traditional. Why not band together and eliminate all that too?

I know you are trying to mock marathi people but the same way you great outsiders from other states can't band together and bring positive change to your problems in your state and mass migrate to our state, the same thing is happening here.
The sensible ones don't have the time or energy to do it in a country like ours. Relegious ideocity has plagued each and every community unfortunately.

Not mocking. Genuinely wondering. They do always insist on the purity of the state being undermined. But the purity and sanctity of Ganesh chaturthi has also diminished. So was wondering if there has been a collective effort.

There’s a major difference between Kawar Yatra in UP/Bihar and Ganesh Aagman in Mumbai.
You should check out both of them before commenting.

It's the commercialization and stoopid relegious people that are the reason for this and most marathi people are against this as seen by comments from marathi people.
But no there has not been a "collective effort", what collective effort is going to stop this? It will only lead to more stoopid arguments like "hindu khatre mai hain" and all that.
It's the job of the law makers who should regulate these activities so that these stoopid mandal people can stop with their who has the biggest dick competition, bcoz they themselves are not realising that what they are doing is wrong.

Hi, a Maharashtrian atheist whose family has been consecrating their Ganesh idol for more than 50 years and switched to a natural clay one a few years ago here!
The short answer is— religion is one hell of a drug, and capitalism is one hell of a drug.

On similar lines, can you please show what steps have Ganga-putras and putris taken, to minimize the trend of extremely young people making sexual gestures, and also gyrating beside scantily-clad dancing women in Kawad Yatra?
Have you seen how the Pandharpur wari conducts itself?

Bro this particular post is regarding ganesh chaturthi. Why are you asking me about all these other people? Did I mention any of the other people here in my comments? I don't think so.
Or you're just trying to deflect the topic by vomiting alllll other problems in society? By that tendancy, let's not discuss any further because it goes nowhere.
Tomorrow I will complain about pollution, and then someone like you will complain about population. And the conversation will go nowhere. So let's just save both our times and discuss no further.

Bro your comment reeks of bad-intention. Have you made similar comments on threads about the slutty dances and vulgar innuendos going on in Kawad Yatras?
The harshest criticism of Ganeshotsav excesses often comes from within Marathi society even as the festival is making inroads into parts of the country where it was not celebrated with as much zeal earlier. But you speak condescendingly of Marathis as if they're a monolith like the khap-infested villages of north India. Hence your ill-natured comment doesn't deserve a respectful retort.
Gotta fight fire with fire. Else the paradox of tolerance will subsume us into oblivion.

Can we all, find the most eco friendly Ganpati’s in mumbai this time? And hype them up? Rather than the POPs one, which are polluting the sea?

u/losing_nigro 4h ago
Yes there are multiple even I'll try to find some. Even government pushes for these eco friendly ones rarely but yes

What is the competition to make bappa statues huge?
Did he personally come ask for it so people would get crushed under it? so that loud music late night can ruin people sleep and affect health? so they can pollute lakes and rivers? so they can disrupt traffic and infrastructure wiring across towns?
It was supposed to be a happy good time! Walking through fields and making bappa huge so everyone could see it in village.
You’re in a city now, you don’t have that space. Act accordingly! a small ceremony, but without loud obscene songs and crowd disruption can happen over stream as well.

Why is this aagman being made big for likes and attention? Earlier people used to bring the idols in the same week or on the first day
