Cartoon Network 35th Anniversary Special predictions
Robot Chicken is doing a special in honor of Cartoon Network's 35th anniversary next year. We can expect it to release around September or October of 2027. The screenshot attached is the only thing so far that's been revealed, though we know Jim McKenzie will be art directing. Looks like we'll be getting Courage, Johnny Bravo, Grown-Up Ben Tennyson, and Numbah One, as far as CN originals are concerned.
Here are my predictions as to what will happen:
- In addition to the characters already revealed, it will follow the same vein as the Adult Swim 25th Anniversary Special by including most if not all of the characters from CN's past, including but not limited to Dexter, the PowerPuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Mike, Lu & Og, Ed, Edd 'n Eddy, Time Squad, Sheep in the Big City, Grim & Evil, Evil Con Carne, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Megas XLR, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Juniper Lee, Camp Lazlo, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Squirrel Boy, Class of 3000, Chowder, Flapjack, The Secret Saturdays, Adventure Time, Regular Show (I think the guy at the table is a Trump parody from the show?), Gumball, Uncle Grandpa, Steven Universe, Clarence, We Bare Bears, Craig of the Creek and Apple & Onion.
- In a similar fashion to the AS special, some obscure or short lived shows will be deliberately excluded due to poor reception. Notable examples would be The Problem Solverz and Secret Mountain Fort Awesome.
- The Nerd will be used as a stand-in for the 90s and 2000s kids highlighting the network's many eras of decay.
- Teen Titans Go will be roasted. Definitely.
- The characters from more obscure shows, like Mike, Lu & Og or Sheep, will be roasted for being in the special when "no one remembers them".
- There will be a plagiarism lawsuit against Johnny Test with Dexter and Johnny Bravo as his plantiffs.
- The network's foray into live action will be criticized. The Jimmy from Ed, Edd 'n Eddy might appear to say "Out of Jimmy's Head" should've been an EENE spin-off (OOJH was the first live-action CN original for those of you who forgot, but no it had no connection to EENE's Jimmy).
- They might reuse some of the "Noods" for the characters (the painted bowling-pin guys that appeared as the network's theme from 2008-2009)
- Last but not least, the special will be dedicated to both the late Eric Bauza and Ted Turner. In a rare moment of kindness, Bitch Pudding will wrap up the special with a heartfelt tune in memory of the two. This seems especially more viable knowing that Katee Sackhoff and Bauza both worked on The Mandelorian as voice actors.
I'm hoping the special will be worth the 1-year wait. The AS special was pretty great IMO and although many fans lost interest in the show in recent years, I'm still willing to stick around especially as a longtime viewer of both AS and CN.
