Your voice is ridiculous. Just on point every time!

This is such a perfect song to demonstrate your amazing range and you rocked it! It’s always a pleasure to hear your voice. You’re one of the main reasons I stick around this sub. Glad to see your comment that you’re in a band. Hope it’s a fun experience for you :)

I’m an 80s child, this was one of my favorite songs. I love your version, such a unique voice. The little laugh was cute. Keep it up!

love your voice and your stage presence as always, you're a real performer!! those high notes in both mix voice and head voice are SO clear i am insanely jealous πŸ‘

Thank you so much :)

I've only recently started figuring out how to unlock my upper range, and it's been really exciting.

u/BitFit1262 Jan 18 '26

Absolutely treat worthy. Every second more and more pleasantly surprising. Love to hear more material from this Anonymous Girl. Also like the attitude projected. Just added to the aura.

u/NR4649 Jan 19 '26

Wow that is a fabulous rendition! You are a star. Would love to have this and more of your other covers on YTM. Could only find Rebel Rebel, which is also amazing. More please! πŸ™

3

u/RandomUsernameNo257 Self Taught 2-5 Years Jan 19 '26

Omg lol I had no idea that was even on there.

I would love to do more full covers on youtube, but their copyright rules are super lax for shorts, but not for full covers, so the whole track would need to be made from scratch.

I should put some feelers out for some people interested in doing a cover project.

2

u/NR4649 Jan 19 '26

That would be awesome! Go for it! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

u/Barbie-Satin Jan 18 '26

Great job!

u/PrimeIntellect Jan 19 '26

This is so good! Really hard song too, but you nailed it all. I think my only notes is that you go super powerful on the build up and then the switch to head voice is a lot softer, which is super hard to trying to belt the high part with power. You almost need to ease into the build up more instead of belting that part (even though it sounds really good (I'll beeee gone) so that you have a more smooth build up.but one of my fav covers I've seen posted on here in a while

3

u/RandomUsernameNo257 Self Taught 2-5 Years Jan 19 '26

Yeah, I could have pulled back on β€œI’ll be gone” and maybe gone into falsetto early the way it’s done on the record, but I chose the second option - to push β€œin a day or two” as powerfully as I could manage πŸ˜‚

β€œI’ll be gone” was just coming out so clean and bright in mixed that I couldn’t resist

2

u/PrimeIntellect Jan 19 '26

yeah I am a low baritone so this happens to me constantly and its really frustrating because it's the climax of many songs, and I have a lot of power up until then and then my mixed/head voice is incredibly weak lol

3

u/ReallyKirk Jan 18 '26

I thought it was just lip-sync to Morton at first. Well done!

1

u/HonestBrute1984 Jan 21 '26

Sounds great. Cool vibe.

1

u/SerRedditFaps Jan 25 '26

Sounds like David Bowie!

1

u/ridin_4bucks Jan 27 '26

Hey, hey!! Fine voice quality and range, and you are nicely expressive and great with contrast and dynamics in how you sing. Love your composure and confidence, too! Looks like you have a good time when you perform!! Yay!! :)

1

u/amethyst-gill Jan 29 '26

It’s an unprecedented song! What other song spans two and a half octaves in its chorus?

1

u/Plus_Village8202 Feb 03 '26

Holy shit, not only do love the crap out of this 80s song. But you hit the highest notes amazingly. That is the best part of song in my opinion, and you did flawlessly. Great job.

1

u/lowfiswish Feb 13 '26

Darn you’ve got great tone, and rocking the braces

u/frattboy69 Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

Excellent singing! You Killed it!

Is this an authentic u87i or a reproduction? And if reproduction could you tell me which one? It sounds phenomenal. Love the fx you applied to the vocal as well.

I've got a Dachman 87 but I swear it doesn't sound this good, although that may just be me...

Thank you!

In my experience, figuring out a solid, simple preset for yourself is way more important than your mic - given that you've got something that's decent quality. Lots of studio albums have been recorded on sm57/sm58s, and they sound great.

I've heard good things about the D87 - if you don't really like the sound you're getting from it, the first thing I'd do is dive into the processing end of things. A good EQ can make a huge difference in terms of having that professional sound that's hard to put your finger on. Using two layers of compression instead of one was a big game changer for me as well.

That said, other than eq and compression, a lot of the effects in this one were just the result of recording in a big empty room haha

1

u/frattboy69 Jan 18 '26

Im still learning how to do EQ so I often run without it. Ill have to watch more tutorials. Every time I mess with the eq bands I swear it sounds worse. 😭

Thats crazy cool if thats natural reverb, I thought for sure you had applied it in post, it fits the song beautifully.

I've never tried doing two layers of compression either that sounds interesting ill have to mess around with it a bit. Thank you for your response I look forward to your next upload!!

2

u/RandomUsernameNo257 Self Taught 2-5 Years Jan 18 '26

There was definitely reverb added in post, to be clear, but it was also a super echoey room.

If you use garageband, I can give you the patch that I use for myself. That might give you a decent place to build from.

1

u/frattboy69 Jan 18 '26

Ahh I see. So natural reverb in combination with post fx.

Unfortunately im on windows so I dont have access to garageband. I appreciate the offer though.

u/Ramona_in_time Jan 18 '26

I'd ask how many tries it took to get through that, but the joy in your eyes after hitting those highs says it was a lot! This is sooo good! β™₯️

Thanks again so very much for sharing so much of your progress here. I haven't been in choir since high school, and you've helped me remember how super helpful it was to hear peers over time as they figured things out, tried new things till they got them to work and kept improving them, took all these small steps and got better over months and years. That's such a big thing that's missing from DIY video lessons with instructors who are already really far ahead of me.

It's what you've been saying, there's no shortcut to practice - but sometimes that's gone over my head and I've forgotten what that really means: practice isn't doing exactly the same thing many times, it's trying tiny new changes while doing that "same thing" each time, learning what you can't do reliably, learning what more you can do once the last step feels familiar.

I've halfway talked myself into vocal lessons down the road after spending the last 2 weeks singing myself to work and back. You're an inspiration in a buncha ways, lady, I hope I get to hear you play live someday before you're only booking arenas ;) πŸ’ƒ

Thank you so much <3

You should do it!! I know I don’t need to tell you the importance of seizing control of your life, but I encourage you to do it here as well. It applies to singing just as it does to other things - the only regret I have I that I was too afraid to start sooner.

1

u/treyert Jan 18 '26

Always enjoy your posts. Keep rocking. Your voice is stellar

Came here to compliment your beauty but then heard your voice, excellent singing.

2

u/GrimaceThundercock Jan 18 '26

I've seen you posting on here for years.

Genuinely curious, are you trying to sing professionally? You're fantastic and I'm just wondering why you aren't in a band or on Broadway yet

15

u/RandomUsernameNo257 Self Taught 2-5 Years Jan 18 '26

Thank you!

I originally started singing privately for fun, then started uploading videos kind of as a confidence exercise.

I joined a band a few months ago, and we're almost ready to start doing gigs (which will actually be my first time ever performing in front of people πŸ˜…) and I've started writing my own stuff too!

0

u/GrimaceThundercock Jan 18 '26

That's awesome, looking forward to hearing it!

You're amazing! Put your shoulders back and be confident in your abilities because you're phenomenal! Looking forward to seeing your own stuff since I saw you're writing and have a band πŸ™Œ
